Kate Middleton recently launched her latest campaign, ShapingUs, to promote early childhood development. In honor of the new program, the Princess of Wales shared a rare childhood photo of herself and her father.

The picture shows an infant Middleton reaching out to touch her father Michael’s face. “‘Faces are a baby’s best toy,’” she wrote in her caption before explaining the ShapingUs campaign to her followers.

ShapingUs was created to “raise awareness of the vital role our early years play in shaping the rest of our lives,” the princess shared. She then encouraged her followers to “spend time with your friends, families, colleagues and communities talking about your early childhoods and how they’ve shaped your lives.”

“I hope you’ll also consider joining me in sharing a picture of yourselves before your fifth birthday to help with those conversations and to share some smiles and memories too,” she concluded.

The new campaign is part of Middleton’s ongoing work in the world of early childhood development. In a statement provided by Buckingham Palace, Middleton explained why this has become her passion project.

“The way we develop, through our experiences, relationships, and surroundings during our early childhood, fundamentally shapes our whole lives,” she said.

“It affects everything from our ability to form relationships and thrive at work, to our mental and physical well-being as adults and the way we parent our own children.”

Middleton called on others to help “build a supportive, nurturing world around the youngest members of our society and those caring for them” in an effort to create a better world for future generations.

“All of society has a role to play in this, even if you are not directly involved in a child’s life, because we are all responsible for building a more compassionate world in which our children can grow, learn and live,” the Duchess of Cambridge continued.

“In these difficult times, it is more important than ever to help support parents and caregivers provide loving, safe, and secure homes for their babies and young children to thrive.”

Middleton is extremely passionate about her work in the world of childhood development and is hard at work to provide support for caregivers and parents. Her latest campaign is just one more way that she’s working to raise awareness about this important stage in a child’s life.

Gwyneth Paltrow Takes An Amazing Trip Down Memory Lane With A Video In Her Closet Of All Her ’90s Fashion https://www.suggest.com/gwyneth-paltrow-takes-amazing-trip-down-memory-lane-video-closet-nineties-fashion/2723160/ Wed, 08 Feb 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2723160 Gwyneth Paltrow smiles in nude dress with floral appliques against blue patterned backdrop

Gwyneth Paltrow has one of the most enviable closets in Hollywood, and she recently highlighted some of the more memorable pieces in a video for her lifestyle brand, Goop. From red carpet accessories to the dress she wore when Brad Pitt proposed, Paltrow shared some of her most special fashion items.

In the video, Paltrow showed off the storage facility where she keeps all of her clothes and accessories. “I pull things from this closet every once in a while,” she explained. “It’s really, like, if I need something special, or things that I just love that I’m saving for myself if things come back in style or for Apple [her 18-year-old daughter].”

Some of the most notable looks came from the ’90s, when Paltrow was one of the biggest trendsetters in Hollywood. One dress she pulled out was a white Calvin Klein shirt dress.

“[It’s] very ’90s,” Paltrow said of the dress, which she wore to the 1996 premiere of The Pallbearer. “It’s slouchy, it’s relaxed. It’s giving that very ’90s ‘I don’t give a f*ck.’”

Paltrow also showed off some red carpet accessories, including the light pink Manolo Blahnik heels she wore to the 1999 Oscars ceremony. That year, Paltrow won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Shakespeare in Love

Another ’90s item shown was a Christian Dior brown suede slip dress that she wore “when [she] had brown hair. A real look at the time,” Paltrow laughed. The actress also showed off a red Gucci suit from the 1996 MTV Movie Awards that she said she’s worn “many, many times.”

One of the items viewers loved seeing was the dress Paltrow said she was wearing when Pitt proposed to her. The pair was together from 1994 to 1997 and got engaged when she was 24 years old.

“We were in Italy,” Paltrow remembered as she looked at the floral, long-sleeve dress. “We climbed up to, like, a roof-deck thing and he surprised me!” She and Pitt eventually split, with Paltrow saying she was not ready to be married.

Fans of Paltrow’s ’90s fashion sense loved getting a closer look at some of the most memorable pieces from her extensive wardrobe. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see Apple rocking these pieces in the future!

‘Jeopardy!’ Competitor Reveals What The ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Set Is Like When ‘Jeopardy!’ Is Filming https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-competitor-reveals-what-wheel-of-fortune-set-is-like-when-jeopardy-is-filming/2722511/ Tue, 07 Feb 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722511 screenshot of ken Jennings hosting final Jeopardy in a grey suit and blue tie

Jeopardy! contestants are always ready to give fans of the game show a look at what goes on behind the scenes, and player David Maes was no exception! In a Reddit post, Maes gave viewers some details about what goes on when the cameras aren’t rolling, including what it’s like to watch the show from the green room— aka the Wheel of Fortune set!

Maes was not on Jeopardy! for very long, losing his one and only game to multi-day champion Troy Meyer. Losing didn’t ruin the fun for Maes, though, as he showed in a lengthy post about his time on the game show

He called Meyer “even more likable in person than he already appears on screen” and commended the show’s entire crew for being “among the best in the business.” Maes also provided aspiring contestants with some tips about how to spend their time once they’re lost a game.

“I highly recommend staying in the green room (aka the Wheel of Fortune stage) after your game; watching, commenting, and cheering on live games with fellow contestants was a blast,” Maes wrote.

He went on to explain that the Jeopardy! contestants go to the studio where Wheel of Fortune is shot and watch from the audience seats. “The stage (where the WoF board and the Wheel is) is pretty much dark and off-limits,” Maes shared. “There’s a conspicuous sign to DO NOT TOUCH THE WHEEL.”

“There’s a livestream to the Jeopardy stage on multiple monitors, and because they can’t hear us, we were shouting ‘DO IT!’ to the screens to egg on fellow contestants to go for true daily doubles,” he laughed.

Maes also elaborated on how sitting on the Wheel of Fortune soundstage is much more fun than sitting in the Jeopardy! studio audience, writing, “After our game, we had the option of going to the audience (where you sit politely) or going back to the green room (where you get to shout out answers to triple stumpers and Final Jeopardy with new friends).”

While sitting in the Jeopardy! audience as contestants play might sound cool, Maes’ Reddit post revealed that there’s much more fun going on behind the scenes on a very different game show set.

Why Archie Probably Won’t Attend King Charles’ Coronation (It’s Not Because Of His Birthday) https://www.suggest.com/king-charles-archie-probably-will-not-attend-coronation-not-because-birthday/2722720/ Tue, 07 Feb 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722720 King Charles looks off-camera in black suit and blue polka-dotted tie

King Charles III’s coronation is quickly approaching and, while most of the ceremony’s details have been kept under wraps, a few things have slipped through the cracks.

One major thing we don’t know yet is the guest list. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will most likely be invited, but it’s assumed they’ll leave their children, Archie and Lilibet, at home.

It’s already been announced that King Charles’ coronation will be just an hour long; for comparison, his mother’s was over three. However, even with a shorter time limit, the coronation ceremony will still be too much for a young child.

Archie will be just four years old on the day of the event. Many royal family members choose to have their young children stay at home so as not to cause a scene at public events.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s youngest son, Prince Louis, was memorably very bored at various Jubilee events this summer and even skipped some of the longer ceremonies.

King Charles attended his mother’s coronation when he was four years old but, as the heir apparent to the throne, it made sense that he should be there. Archie is sixth in line and will probably never become a working royal.

Lilibet will be almost two years old—the same age Princess Anne was when Queen Elizabeth was crowned. Anne did not attend the coronation or any of the surrounding events, so it would make sense for Lilibet to be kept home.

Putting aside the young ages of Archie and Lilibet, it also seems unlikely Harry and Markle would want them at the ceremony. The couple is very vocal about their desire to keep their children out of the public eye and away from photographers.

For example, when the family traveled to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee, neither child attended any public events with the rest of the royal family.

Lastly, the day of the coronation, May 6, also happens to be Archie’s fourth birthday. It doesn’t seem likely his parents would make him sit through a long day of official ceremonies and parties on his birthday.

The Sussexes have yet to confirm whether or not they will be attending the coronation if they are invited, but it’s pretty safe to assume that their young children will be staying home that day.

Helena Bonham Carter Has Some Strong Feelings As To Why It’s Time To End ‘The Crown’ https://www.suggest.com/helena-bonham-carter-has-some-strong-feelings-why-time-end-the-crown/2722696/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722696 Helena Bonham Carter sits and speaks while wearing a green shawl and nude-colored skirt

The Crown is one of Netflix’s most popular shows to date, thrilling viewers with its accounts of what went on behind the scenes of some of the royal family’s most dramatic moments. However, Helena Bonham Carter, a former star of the show, recently shared that she thinks it’s time for The Crown to call it quits.

Carter played Princess Margaret in Seasons 3 and 4 of The Crown, which covered the years 1964 to 1990. Even though she told The Guardian she “loved [her] episodes,” Carter quickly added, “I don’t think they should carry on, actually.

“It’s very different now,” she continued. “When The Crown started it was a historic drama, and it’s crashed into the present.”

The last season of the show ended with Princess Diana meeting Dodi Fayed, and it’s assumed Season 6 will show her tragic death and the effects it had on the royal family.

Carter is among the many Crown viewers who have expressed discomfort with the fact that the show is getting closer and closer to the present. Adding to that discomfort are the comments Prince Harry has made about how the public scrutiny following his mother’s death affected him and his brother Prince William.

This also isn’t the first time Carter has spoken about the need to bring The Crown to a close. In a podcast interview with The Guardian, the actress joined the many who were calling for a disclaimer to be put in front of episodes, letting viewers know the show is largely fictional.

“It is dramatized,” she stressed. “I do feel very strongly, because I think we have a moral responsibility to say, ‘Hang on guys, this is not … it’s not a drama-doc, we’re making a drama.’ So they are two different entities.”

Netflix eventually agreed to add the disclaimer, but Carter’s request to have the show end now is already a moot point. Season 6 of The Crown started filming last September and is expected to premiere sometime this year. It will, however, be the last season of the popular show, as was announced in 2020.

Carter’s concerns about the events of The Crown coming too close to the present are understandable, and many fans of the show are pleased that the showrunners are choosing to end it.

Head Of Elvis Presley Enterprises Weighs In On Priscilla Presley’s Lawsuit https://www.suggest.com/head-elvis-presley-enterprises-weighs-in-priscilla-presley-lawsuit/2722475/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722475 photo of Priscilla Presley speaking into a microphone dressed in black at Lisa Marie's public memorial

When Lisa Marie Presley passed away earlier this month, her will left everything—including partial control of Elvis Presley’s estate—to her daughters. Now, her mother, Priscilla, is contesting the will and fighting an amendment to the document she claims is invalid.

Joel Weinshanker, managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, recently weighed in on the situation, telling Sirius XM’s Elvis Radio that Lisa Marie was “quite certain” she wanted her children to carry on Elvis’ legacy.

“We discussed this many many times [before] she passed, and that was always Riley and Ben,” Weinshanker said, referring to Riley Keough and Benjamin Keough, her children with ex David Keough. “There was never a question in her mind that they would be the stewards, that they would look at it the exact same way that she did. And obviously when Ben passed, it really sat with Riley.”

Benjamin died by suicide in 2020, leaving Riley and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood, 14, as the co-trustees of Lisa Marie’s Trust, which includes the famous Graceland property and 15% ownership of Elvis’ estate.

Why Priscilla Is Contesting Her Daughter’s Will

While Weinshanker is insistent that Lisa Marie wanted her children to take charge of her trust, Priscilla is not so sure. Previously, the will stated that Priscilla and Barry Siegel, her former business manager, would be co-trustees.

This 2010 amendment to her will was replaced in 2016 with a new amendment that made her children co-trustees of Lisa Marie’s Trust instead. Priscilla is contesting this amendment, claiming she had no prior knowledge of the change. This would make the 2016 amendment invalid, as Priscilla did not receive the amendment while Lisa Marie was alive “as required by the express terms of the Trust.”

Priscilla has also claimed that there are “many issues surrounding the authenticity and validity” of the amendment, including the fact that her name was misspelled on the document, the amendment was not witnessed or notarized, and Lisa Marie’s signature is “inconsistent” with her usual signature.

It’s unknown whether or not Priscilla’s petition will change the outcome of Lisa Marie’s trust and Elvis’ estate but, despite her mother’s claims, it seems clear that Lisa Marie wanted her children to carry on her father’s legacy.

Disgraced Prince Andrew Reportedly Booted From Plush Buckingham Palace Apartment https://www.suggest.com/prince-andrew-reportedly-booted-from-plush-buckingham-palace-apartment/2721648/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721648 Prince Andrew looking ahead in gray suit and tie

Prince Andrew is being stripped of yet another royal privilege. King Charles III has evicted his brother from Buckingham Palace as part of his ongoing punishment for the sexual assault scandals that recently rocked the royals.

Like many senior royals, Andrew has long maintained an apartment at Buckingham Palace, where he stays while he’s in London. The prince also has a home at Windsor Castle; the Royal Lodge, where he lives with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.

The Sun recently reported that Andrew will have to say goodbye to his London digs due to Charles’ ongoing renovations of the palace. His possessions have already been removed, with no plans to put them back after the renovations are finished.

“The King has made it clear that Buckingham Palace is no place for Prince Andrew,” a source told the outlet about Andrew’s ousting from the palace. “First his office closed last year and now his sleeping quarters.

The source continued, “Andrew loved having a suite at Buckingham Palace where he was not only set up for marital life with Sarah Ferguson but used it as a bachelor’s pad after his divorce. He brought back a string of new girlfriends to his home in the Palace—even model Caprice.”

Andrew might have gotten kicked out of Buckingham Palace, but that doesn’t mean he will no longer have a royal residence to stay in when he visits London. The prince can join other royal family members at locations like Kensington Palace and or St. James Palace.

However, the prince might not be too excited about his move to a different royal residence. “A bachelor’s flat in St James’s Palace doesn’t have the same allure for a single man,” The Sun’s source shared.

Not only has Andrew been removed from Buckingham Palace and his former offices, but he has also been stripped of all his royal duties amid the allegations of sexual assault leveled at him by Virginia Guiffre.

Andrew was friends with notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Guiffre, one of Epstein’s victims, claimed she had been forced to have sex with him while underage. A lawsuit was brought against the prince, which was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

He also had to sell his Swiss ski chalet to settle a lawsuit brought against him and Ferguson alleging that the couple owed the house’s owner $9 million. Andrew reportedly sold the chalet for $23.7 million, which undoubtedly helped him pay Guiffre’s settlement.

Andrew’s removal from Buckingham Palace is just the latest royal privilege that he has lost as a result of the ongoing scandal. Many are not surprised that King Charles hopes to distance himself and the throne from Andrew amid his scandals.

Apparently, This Recognizable Gen X Icon Has Already Been Forgotten On ‘Jeopardy!’ https://www.suggest.com/apparently-recognizable-gen-x-icon-has-already-been-forgotten-on-jeopardy/2722158/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722158 screenshot of Ken Jennings hosting Jeopardy! in a gray suit

A recent Jeopardy! episode had some viewers feeling their age after all three contestants drew a blank when it came time to identify a photograph of this iconic ‘80s horror movie location.

The contestants were asked to answer clues about “Scary Movies,” which included popular horror movies like Get Out, Wicker Man, and Nosferatu. The players breezed through most of the clues, but a photo of a very familiar house tripped them all up.

“In 1984, a house in Hollywood got the cinematic address ‘1428 This’ for the first time,” host Ken Jennings read while a picture of the house was shown on screen. None of the contestants attempted to answer the clue.

“That’s ‘1428 Elm Street’ of Nightmare fame,” Jennings revealed, referring to the iconic Nightmare on Elm Street movies. The players might not have gotten the answer, but plenty of Gen Xers recognized the house immediately. The house is a significant part of the first movie. It’s where main character Nancy Thompson lives and is stalked by Freddy Kreuger in her dreams.

Is 1428 Elm Street A Real House?

As it turns out, 1428 Elm Street is a real house in Hollywood, located at 1428 N. Genesee Ave. Strangely enough, the house is actually right across the street from the location used for Johnny Depp’s character Glen’s home, just as it’s supposed to be in the movie. The house has become so recognizable among horror fans that Universal Studios even built a replica of 1428 Elm Street for their famous studio tour.

Freddy Krueger isn’t the only famous face to hang out at the house. Comedian Bo Burnham actually used 1428 N Genesee Ave as the location for his hit Netflix special Inside. The house is essentially unchanged from its days as an ‘80s horror movie landmark, but the interior has been renovated. The house was recently sold for $2.98 million.
The Nightmare on Elm Street movies were part of one of the biggest horror franchises of the 80s and are still popular today. Even though none of the Jeopardy! contestants recognized the house, plenty of viewers around the world knew exactly who lived at 1428 Elm Street.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Charity Raised An Impressive Amount Of Money In 2022 https://www.suggest.com/prince-harry-meghan-markle-charity-raised-impressive-amount-money-2022/2721954/ Sun, 05 Feb 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721954 Meghan Markle smiling in a white dress with arm around Prince Harry in a black suit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation released their first official impact report since its 2020 formation, revealing just how much money they raised and where it ended up going.

Even though the Archewell Foundation was started in 2020, 2022 was the organization’s first full year of operation. In total, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex raised $13 million. This money was used to expand the foundation’s staff as well as donate to worthy causes.

Archewell Has Donated Millions So Far

So far, the Archewell Foundation has donated $3 million to organizations that promote vaccination equity, support women-owned small businesses, and aided Ukrainian and Afghan refugees.

Their report went into specifics, stating the money had provided 12.66 million COVID-19 vaccinations, helped resettle 174,497 refugees, served 50,000 meals to the hungry, and rescued 7,468 people from Afghanistan.

The Archewell Foundation also supported 13 academic fellowships at the Institute for Rebooting Social Media at Harvard University, helped create a positive masculinity guide, and worked to create a play space in Uvalde, Texas, following the tragic school shooting in that community.

Harry and Markle partnered with a variety of different charities and organizations to make these things happen, including Global Citizen, Operations Allies Welcome and Welcome.US, World Central Kitchen, and the Human First Coalition.

The Couple Volunteers Their Time As Well

The couple frequently talk about their dedication to charitable work and their commitment to lending a hand wherever they can. Harry and Meghan don’t just donate money, either. The couple volunteer their time and services as well.

In the summer of 2020, the duke and duchess showed up to hand out basic essentials, school supplies, hygiene products, clothing and meals to families in need at a Baby2Baby charity drive in Los Angeles.

What’s Next For The Archewell Foundation?

As the Archewell Foundation begins its third year, co-executive directors James Holt and Shauna Nep shared their goals for the upcoming year, including continuing an “unwavering commitment to key issues which have an overwhelming ripple effect on our collective well-being.”

“Dovetailing off of the impact we’ve made during this start-up phase, we will continue to build a better world online, work to restore trust in information, and above all, uplift communities online and offline, local and global,” the pair explained.

Harry and Markle have made humanitarian work their main focus as they shift away from the royal family. This report shows just how much of an impact their work has had on the world so far.

‘Should I Have Stayed Home?’—’Jeopardy!’ Competitor Describes Terrifying Moment He Recognized Multi-Day Champion Before The Game https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-jake-dearruda-describes-terrifying-moment-recognized-multi-day-champ-before-game/2721459/ Sat, 04 Feb 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721459 'Jeopardy!' contestant Jake DeArruda smiles on stage against blue backdrop

Most Jeopardy! contestants appear cool, calm, and collected while competing on air. However, one player’s blog has revealed the behind-the-scenes moment that had him wondering if he should’ve just stayed home.

Jake DeArruda, a delivery dispatcher from Vermont, recently competed on the game show against Dee Williams and then-reigning champion Troy Meyer. DeArruda’s detailed blog gave fans an inside look at how he felt playing against Meyer.

“In most cases, contestants will never know who the reigning champion is, as the shows air months after they are taped,” DeArruda admitted. However, he knew exactly who Meyer was when they met because of his many deep dives on various quiz show statistics websites.

DeArruda shared that Meyer was “the top ranked United States quizzer in the 2021 standings in the World Quizzing Championship,” so it’s understandable that he was a little intimidated at the thought of going up against him.

DeArruda also shared that he was also relieved that he didn’t have to face Cris Pannullo, a champ with a 21-day streak.

Should I have stayed home or waited five more years?” DeArruda joked in his post about his nerves. “Is this worse than playing Cris? Probably not.” He noted that Meyer had only won two games at that point and didn’t have the “buzzer experience” that Pannullo did.

In another post, DeArruda broke down the games he played against Meyer, who he calls “the real deal.” He also shared the advice other contestants gave him about playing against Meyer, including buzzing in “aggressively” to answer before him.

DeArruda might have been nervous to take on a trivia champion like Meyer, but it looks like all that worrying wasn’t necessary—he won the game, ending Meyer’s six-day winning streak and kick-starting his own current winning streak.

Even though his time on Jeopardy! has come to an end, Meyer is already looking ahead to future games in the upcoming Tournament of Champions.

“Cris [Pannullo] is obviously an incredible player and somebody that I’ll certainly be looking for in the ToC,” Meyer said. “[I plan] to bring my game and play as well as I can.”

DeArruda’s episodes are still airing, so it’s unknown how long his own winning streak will continue, but fans of the game show are loving his detailed blog posts about his games and his relatable nerves when it comes to facing a champion.

‘Jeopardy!’ Competitor Says The Best Part Of The Show Comes After Losing https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-competitor-said-best-part-show-comes-after-losing/2720703/ Fri, 03 Feb 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720703 'Jeopardy!' host Ken Jennings speaks on stage holding cue card

Jeopardy! contestants are usually concentrated on the game itself—that is, learning trivia and practicing their buzzer technique. However, one former player has shared his tips for a good time on the game show, including what contestants should do after they lose a game.

Former Contestant Calls Green Room ‘A Blast’

David Maes, a Chicago attorney, competed on Jeopardy! earlier this month. He came in second to Troy Meyer, who is currently on a six-day winning streak. In a Reddit thread recapping the episode he was on, Maes discussed his experience on the game show and provided an interesting tip for other Jeopardy! players: staying in the show’s green room.

“I highly recommend staying in the green room (aka the Wheel of Fortune stage) after your game,” Maes wrote. “Watching, commenting, and cheering on live games with fellow contestants was a blast.”

Maes and his fellow players might have gotten to hang out on the Wheel of Fortune stage, but another Jeopardy! contestant shared that she was put somewhere else. Jennifer Quail appeared in episodes in 2019 and 2021 and has previously talked about her time on Jeopardy! on Reddit.

“They let you hang out in the green room after playing instead of the audience side now? Fun!” Quail replied to Maes’ comment. “I stayed, and sat in the audience the rest of the day. It helped with the letdown for sure, plus it was kind of fun to just watch with no pressure.”

Maes wrote back, saying that the players were given a choice between “going to the audience (where you sit politely) or going back to the green room (where you get to shout out answers to triple stumpers and Final Jeopardy with new friends).”

He also wrote about how much he loved his time on the show in his initial post. “It was a lot of fun to finally be a part of the Jeopardy community!” he told fans.

Maes discussed his competitors, saying Kristina Zimmerman “was one of the first people [he] got to meet” on the show and that reigning champion Troy Meyer “is even more likable in person than he already appears on screen.”

It sounds like Maes’ time on Jeopardy! was full of new friendships and cool experiences. Maes’ Reddit post shows just how much fun players have on the game show, whether they win or lose.

Anne Hathaway Beckons Memories Of Her Catwoman Days In Her Head-To-Toe Leopard Print Ensemble That Somehow Isn’t Tacky https://www.suggest.com/anne-hathaway-head-to-toe-leopard-print-ensemble-actually-not-tacky/2721040/ Thu, 02 Feb 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721040 Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Fashion events are a time for people to go all out, and this year’s Paris Fashion Week was no exception. While most people were talking about Kylie Jenner’s eye-catching lion-head gown, we couldn’t stop looking at Anne Hathaway’s bedazzled Valentino big cat-inspired look.

The actress wore a spaghetti-strap bedazzled mini dress; the gems made a glamorous leopard pattern on the dress. She accessorized with tights that also featured the sparkly cat-inspired motif, leopard print stilettos, and a matching clutch.

Leopard print is always tricky to pull off, especially when it’s a head-to-toe look. However, Hathaway’s look is the perfect example of how to wear the pattern well.

The actress’ bottom half was covered with the gemstone animal print, but she balanced the dramatic look by showing plenty of skin up top. The tights were sheer as well, keeping things light behind the gems.

Hathaway’s accessories were also perfectly picked to keep her Valentino look from feeling overpowering. Her shoes and clutch were leopard print, but by choosing a darker version of the print and keeping the pieces sleek and subtle, Hathway avoided any clashing.

With such a bold look, it’s no surprise Hathaway went simple when it came time for hair and makeup. She sported on-theme cat eye makeup and long, loose waves.

This outfit is classic Valentino. The Italian fashion house goes for eye-catching features, whether it’s the bright pink outfits and accessories from their Fall/Winter 2022 collection or the bedazzled looks they sent down the runway at 2023’s Paris Fashion Week.

It’s no surprise Hathaway brought some big cat energy to Paris Fashion Week. She famously played Catwoman in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises where, in addition to the trademark leather catsuit and mask, she also wore a series of classic little black dresses.

The pattern on her outfit wasn’t the only thing getting wild at the Valentino show. A video taken at an afterparty shows Hathway letting loose on the dancefloor to LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” The video quickly went viral, with fans calling her “the love of my life” and a “queen.”

Hathaway’s high-fashion look is a perfect example of how to rock a bold pattern without looking over-the-top, and yet another reminder that the actress’ fashion choices are always pitch perfect.

How Drama With Edward Norton’s Ex, Courtney Love, Affected His Relationship With Salma Hayek https://www.suggest.com/edward-norton-courtney-love-salma-hayek-how-drama-ex-affected-relationship/2720746/ Thu, 02 Feb 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720746 Side by side image (L): Edward Norton with Courtney Love, R: Edward Norton with Salma Hayek

Edward Norton has been making headlines for his personal and professional life for years, including his high-profile relationships. The actor once dated two major stars back-to-back, creating complications in his relationships with both Courtney Love and Salma Hayek.

Love Slammed Hayek After Her Own Breakup With Norton

Norton and Love met on the set of 1996’s The People Vs. Larry Flynt and started dating shortly after the movie premiered. They dated on and off for the next three years and even got engaged at one point.

However, the couple ultimately called it quits in 1999 and Norton wasted no time moving on. That same year, he was set up on a date with Hayek and sparks flew. They were happily coupled up, but Love soon made it clear she was not a fan of her ex moving on so quickly.

In a 2003 interview, Love said she still “love[d] Edward so much.” At the time, Norton was dating Hayek, but the Hole frontwoman shared her not-so-nice thoughts on the relationship.

Love said she didn’t think Norton and Hayek would get married because “he can barely understand half of what she’s saying,” referring to Hayek’s accent. Love faced backlash for her comments about her ex’s new relationship and ultimately issued an apology to Hayek.

Norton And Hayek’s Mysterious Split

That same year, Norton and Hayek split, which was confirmed by the actress’ young co-star Daryl Sabara. While appearing on the TODAY show, Sabara said, “She isn’t with Ed Norton anymore” before host Matt Lauer quickly cut him off.

The couple was famously private, so not much is known about why they broke things off, but having Norton’s ex-girlfriend publicly talk about them in the press probably didn’t help matters. However, it seems as if Norton is still on good terms with both of his exes.

Norton Is Still Friendly With Both Exes

Love still speaks highly of Norton today and has even said that she left him “everything” in her will. She has also said that she “should have married Norton,” but left him because she wasn’t ready for commitment at the time (per Metro UK).

Norton and Hayek are also still close—he was on the guest list for her 2009 wedding to billionaire businessman Francois-Henri Pinault. His date to the wedding was Shauna Robertson, whom he ended up marrying in 2012.

While not much is known about why Norton and Hayek called it quits, it’s clear that Love’s insulting public statements leveled towards Hayek definitely didn’t help matters.

Ellen DeGeneres’ Star-Studded Throwback To Birthdays Past On Her Show Has Us Missing It More Than Ever https://www.suggest.com/ellen-degeneres-star-studded-throwback-birthdays-past-on-show-has-us-missing-more-than-ever/2721022/ Wed, 01 Feb 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721022 Ellen DeGeneres on her show peering into a brown paper bag

Ellen DeGeneres recently celebrated her birthday and spent some time looking back on past celebrations at The Ellen DeGeneres Show. From famous friends stopping by to wish her well to big birthday cakes and bouncy castles, DeGeneres’ recent Instagram post has us majorly missing the talk show celebrations.

DeGeneres posted a video compilation of clips from all the birthdays she celebrated while hosting her popular daytime talk show. The show host has marked the occasion in many different ways over the years, including having major stars dropping by to chat and getting huge birthday cakes for the crew.

Some of the celebrities who were featured in the video include surprise guest Julia Roberts, Allison Janney, and Ryan Seacrest, who brought hilarious gag gifts, as well as Colin Farrell, who wheeled out a birthday cake for DeGeneres.

There were even musical performances from Billy Ray Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Dax Shepard, and DeGeneres’ wife, actress Portia de Rossi. The talk show host’s birthday episodes also included party staples, like bouncy castles, balloons, and dance parties.

Some particularly hilarious moments from the video show DeGeneres opening gifts from fans. A creepy sculpture of her head had the talk show host joking, “I don’t know if it’s a gift or a threat.” She also unwrapped a life-size papier mache statue of herself, cracking her audience up.

Employees Accused Producers Of Toxic Behavior

DeGeneres’ video makes the show seem like a whole lot of fun, but it’s worth remembering the talk show ended amid accusations of workplace toxicity and rude behavior from DeGeneres towards her employees.

In 2020, BuzzFeed News reported on claims from former employees that they were fired for taking time off for family emergencies. Others said the show handled the coronavirus shutdown poorly and did not communicate information about shooting or payment to employees. A few months later, three male executive producers were accused of sexual misconduct, as well as other allegations about workplace conduct.

DeGeneres stated that she had been thinking about ending her talk show for months before all the scandals rocked The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but many assumed the accusations of inappropriate workplace activity were the real reason.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show might have ended controversially, but DeGeneres’ recent video reminded her followers just how fun the talk show could be.

Unreleased Michael Jackson Outtakes From ‘Thriller’ Stolen With Laptop, Released On Social Media https://www.suggest.com/unreleased-michael-jackson-outtakes-from-thriller-stolen-laptop-released-social-media/2721009/ Tue, 31 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721009 1996 photo of Michael Jackson singing on stage in a gold jacket

Demand for content from Michael Jackson is just as high as ever, and a recent theft proves it. A laptop and hard drive containing unreleased music, demos, and videos from the King of Pop was taken from one of Jackson’s studio engineers, and the content has already shown up online.

Brad Sundberg worked as a studio engineer for 18 years alongside Jackson. Their working partnership began in 1985, when they collaborated on Captain EO, a short 3D film Jackson made for Disney’s theme parks.

Sundberg’s Relationship With Jackson

Sundberg helped create iconic albums like Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, and Blood on the Dance Floor. He also worked on remixes and edits for various singles, videos, and touring content. He even designed and installed the music and video systems that were scattered throughout Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.

At Sundberg’s “In the Studio with MJ” seminars, he takes fans behind the scenes of some of the singer’s biggest hits, sharing unreleased songs and outtakes from videos and recording sessions.

How The Laptop Was Taken

At a recent seminar in Brussels, Belgium, Sundberg left the laptop and hard drive containing this content unattended. One of the seminar’s attendees entered the room and made off with the equipment, allegedly escaping through a window and over the roof.

According to Sundberg, they already know the identity of the thief, and he is working with local police to recover the laptop and hard drive. “We’re doing all we can to bring this to a solution,” he said in an Instagram video. “It’s just frustrating when … something like this happens. We turned our backs for a few seconds and the computer and hard drive were gone.”

The studio engineer shared that, in addition to the content he shares with seminar attendees, there are more unreleased videos and songs on the computer, as well as his personal photos, documents, and other materials. Sundberg did share that all the content from the laptop and hard drive was backed up, so his seminars will continue taking place.

In the video, Sundberg admitted he was unsure what the thief might do with the laptop and hard drive, hypothesizing that it might be sold off. However, it looks like their main goal was releasing the content from the hard drive.

Content From The Laptop Has Already Been Leaked

Tracks and videos allegedly from Sundberg’s computer have been posted to YouTube and TikTok and have already racked up thousands of views. It’s unknown if the thief posted all the unreleased Jackson material or if there’s any songs and videos they held back.

Sundberg called the theft and release of Jackson’s content “a complete violation of my personal data” and asked fans to report any posts of the stolen material on social media, as it was illegally obtained and uploaded.

“I, along with my family and friends, greatly appreciate your prayers, love, friendship, and support as we deal with this challenging situation head-on,” Sundberg told his Instagram followers.

Jackson was one of the biggest stars of the ‘80s, and his death in 2009 shortly before a series of comeback concerts was tragic. This theft shows just how far some Jackson fans will go for a few more new songs from the pop star.

Kate Middleton’s Earrings Were A Subtle Nod To Queen Elizabeth’s Classic Style https://www.suggest.com/kate-middleton-earrings-were-subtle-nod-to-queen-elizabeth-classic-style/2720710/ Tue, 31 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720710 2012 photo of Kate Middleton in a blue outfit smiling sitting with Queen Elizabeth in a light blue outfit, grinning

Kate Middleton is a pro at sending subtle signals through her clothing choices. The Princess of Wales often pays tribute to other members of the royal family with her fashion statements, as she did recently with a stunning pair of pearl earrings.

Middleton recently welcomed eight early childhood development specialists to Windsor Castle. The group discussed the princess’ work with her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

For the meeting, Middleton wore a black Alexander McQueen blazer—one of her go-to designer favorites—and a white v-neck top. She accessorized with a beautiful pair of dangling pearl Simone Rocha earrings. The earrings perfectly coordinated with her classic black and white look, but the jewelry actually had a more meaningful message to send.

Why Pearls Were Significant To The Late Queen

Since the death of Queen Elizabeth last year, many of the female members of the royal family have been seen sporting pearls. This is a sweet way to honor the queen, who had a lifelong love of pearls. Queen Elizabeth wore pearls often—most notably, at her 1937 coronation ceremony, when she wore a pearl necklace given to her by her father, King George VI. She continued to wear pearls frequently throughout her reign.

The Duchess of Cambridge has continued this tradition of wearing pearls, especially following the death of the queen. For example, she wore the Japanese Pearl Choker, an item Queen Elizabeth commissioned in the 1970s, during a 2022 appearance.

Maxwell Stone, the creative director of jewelry brand Steven Stone, talked more about Middleton’s jewelry tributes to the queen, saying, “It’s not the first time that Kate’s worn pearl jewelry and she’s especially fond of her Collingwood diamond and pearl earrings, which she inherited from Princess Diana.”

Middleton’s Tributes To Princess Diana Through Fashion

Middleton has worn her late mother-in-law’s pearl earrings on other occasions as well. Last year, she paired the earrings with a cranberry Emilia Wickstead coat dress while welcoming South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa to the UK.

The Duchess of Cambridge also often wears clothing and jewelry that is reminiscent of outfits that her late mother-in-law wore. While attending the Earthshot Awards last year with Prince William, Middleton wore an emerald and diamond choker that Diana wore many times—most memorably as a headband at a 1982 concert.

Middleton has mastered the art of sending messages and honoring others through her fashion choices. Adding more pearls into the mix when it comes to choosing jewelry is just one more way for the Princess of Wales to pay tribute to the late queen.

‘Jeopardy!’ Competitor Brought His High School Grudge Against Ken Jennings To The Game https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-competitor-duncan-bowling-brought-high-school-grudge-against-ken-jennings-to-game/2719736/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719736 screenshot of Ken Jennings hosting Jeopardy! in a gray suit with his mouth slightly open

Things can get pretty heated on Jeopardy!, but the contestants usually keep things civil. However, a recent player revealed that he had a “nemesis” on the stage with him—the show’s host, Ken Jennings!

Duncan Bowling is an ICU nurse manager from Washington, D.C. Even though he was a first-time competitor on the game show, Bowling revealed that he was entering the game with a rival in mind.

“I understand I am your nemesis, Duncan,” Jennings started. “And I was not notified!” Bowling quickly explained that the animosity he felt for the game show host all started back when he was still a teenager.

“I was a high school quiz bowl contestant and whenever we would slack off in practice, my coach Ms. Waller would always say, ‘How do you think Ken Jennings got so far? It was not by slacking off,’” Bowling shared.

At the time, Jennings was on his record-breaking winning streak, impressing viewers with his trivia knowledge and buzzer speed. He has gone on to be the highest-earning American game show contestant of all time.

He continued, “Your name elicited a lot of eye-rolls from me back in the day. But I’m glad we can put the past in the past today.” Jennings laughingly responded, “If your quiz bowl coach is watching, I slacked off a ton in high school.”

Fans found the interaction hilarious, and the official Jeopardy! Twitter account even got in on the fun, posting a mock-motivational poster with the game show host’s face on it. “Success starts by wanting to prove your former principal wrong…..” someone commented on the post. Another person wrote, “The things quiz bowl teachers will say!”

All that quiz bowl training clearly came in handy for Bowling! He ended the episode in second place with $16,100. Troy Meyer, a Florida music executive, was the champion, continuing his three-day winning streak and taking home $35,000.

There’s clearly no real animosity between Bowling and Jennings, but his one-sided beef with the game show host was a hilarious start to the game and a hilarious callback to all of our high school days!

The Unlikely Famous Friend Who Courtney Love Credits With Helping Her Live Cleaner https://www.suggest.com/courtney-love-gwyneth-paltrow-unlikely-famous-friendcredits-helping-live-cleaner/2719851/ Sun, 29 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719851 Courtney Love standing in black jacket while holding black crossbody purse against off-white backdrop

Some recent Instagram posts have revealed a Hollywood friendship that many were not aware of before now. An Instagram post from Paris Fashion Week gave Love the perfect opportunity to show Gwyneth Paltrow some love for helping her live healthier.

Love Reveals A 10-Year Friendship With Gwyneth Paltrow

Love posted some pictures of herself attending a Dior event for Paris Fashion Week. Fans and friends commented on the star’s glam look, including Paltrow. The actress wrote, “Um, excuse me looking GORGE,” with a red heart emoji.

Love responded with a lengthy message about the pair’s friendship, which many were unaware of until now. “10 years ago you told me to buck up. To take control of my appearance. To do me & stop reading things about myself. I finally HEARD you,” the rocker wrote.

“FURTHER,” she continued. “I was about to write you privately, but i want people to know. Where I’m staying, due to YOUR influence, they are taking my health & allergies seriously, they even added your PANCAKES ! to the menu! Hopefully our insane European & [American] dependence / addiction, to dairy, will start to abate. You are such a force for good in the world … (Hey .. it was the dairy. The titanium. Or the ozempic that almost killed me, or a sick triad of all [3] in the first place) I love you.”

This isn’t the first time Love and Paltrow have shown each other love on social media. In 2012, the pair rang in the New Year together and Love posted a picture of the friends celebrating. She has also mentioned Paltrow and her advice in previous interviews.

Love’s Latest Appearance: ‘I Don’t Want To Be Around Rich People’

Love might need to lean on Paltrow’s friendship as she weathers her current social media backlash. The controversy started with a video posted by i-D from Paris Fashion Week. In the clip, Love urged viewers to stay offline because it would affect their ability to get jobs and said she was looking forward to getting away from the Fashion Week crowds, saying, “I don’t want to be around rich people.”

The comments section soon filled with people pointing out that Love frequently posts on various social media platforms and that, as a wealthy, world-famous rockstar attending Paris Fashion Week, she is one of those rich people.

Love has responded to the criticism, saying her responses were taken out of context and she didn’t mean to cause any offense. As the singer works to move past this social media storm, it’s good to know she has a true friend like Paltrow to go to when things get tough!

The Fungus From ‘The Last Of Us’ Actually Exists, And It’s Terrifying https://www.suggest.com/fungus-from-the-last-of-us-actually-exists-its-terrifying/2720310/ Sun, 29 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720310 screenshot of a clicker, a human body with fungus overtaking its head, lit by a flashlight in a dim room

The Last of Us is the hottest new show on HBOMax, boasting stars like Pedro Pascal and Nick Offerman and giving zombie fans their post-apocalyptic-media fix. The dangerous fungus that sets the show’s story in motion seems outlandish, but it turns out it’s all too real.

The show, originally based on a hugely popular video game, tells the story of Joel and Ellie, a man and young girl who are traveling across post-apocalyptic America. Twenty years before the events of the show, a mass fungal infection caused by a mutation in the Cordyceps fungus created a global pandemic. People who were infected turned into cannibalistic creatures who attack the uninfected.

How Does The Fungus Zombify Its Host?

Most people assume the fictional fungal infection is completely made up, but unfortunately, the Cordyceps fungus is all too real. The fungus species are endoparasitoids, which means they serve as parasites for insects and other arthropods.

When a Cordyceps fungus attacks its host, it invades and replaces the host’s tissue. The fungal spores start by attaching themselves to the insect’s exoskeleton, then squeezes inside the host. Eventually, it makes its way to the host’s brain, where it secretes a compound that allows the fungus to take over the host’s nervous system—making it, for all intents and purposes, a zombie.

Can It Affect Humans?

The Last of Us’ zombifying fungus is definitely real, but is there any real danger to humans? Could it spread from insects to humans? Fortunately for us, the answer is no. The Cordyceps fungus is too specific to its host. For example, a fungus that affects a species of ant in one part of the world will not affect the same type of ant in a completely different part of the world.

Additionally, the fungus wouldn’t be able to survive in a human body. Humans have a higher body temperature than insects, meaning the Cordyceps fungus wouldn’t be able to last anywhere near long enough to do anything. The human immune system would also flush the fungus out of the body before it had the chance to fully attach itself to the host.
If that wasn’t enough, the Cordyceps fungus also wouldn’t be able to control the human brain and central nervous system. According to Popular Mechanics, it would take millions of years for the fungus to figure out how to properly invade the human brain and control it. The Last of Us’ freaky fungus might be all too real, but it looks like we humans don’t have to worry about Cordyceps turning us into zombies any time soon!

‘Jeopardy!’ Competitor’s Wrong Final Answer Gave Us The Best Moment Of The Game https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-competitor-wrong-final-answer-gave-us-best-moment-game/2720170/ Sun, 29 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720170 screenshot of Ken Jennings during Final Jeopardy smiling while talking about an answer

Even though Jeopardy! can be a pretty serious quiz show, there are still plenty of lighthearted moments for both the players and host Ken Jennings. A recent episode showed off Jennings’ sillier side as he let a contestant know they’d given a wrong answer.

Mark Fabros, Eric Kerr-Heraly, and Troy Meyer faced off against each other, with Meyer continuing a winning streak that had begun in the previous episode. When it came time for Final Jeopardy, some viewers thought the clue was pretty easy.

“Mike Post combined the sound of a slamming jail door, an anvil, and 100 men stomping on a floor for this series that debuted in 1990,” Jennings read. When it came time to answer, the host asked Kerr-Heraly for his guess.

He had guessed “What is Home Improvement?” Kerr-Heraly’s answer was incorrect, which led Jennings to make a hilarious, questioning noise that sounded like if Tim Allen got his feelings hurt before saying, “Well, that’s not correct.” Kerr-Heraly ended up losing $2,000, knocking his total down to $5,600.

“That was a good attempt by Ken at the ‘hammmuph?’ vocalization,” one fan jokingly commented on a YouTube clip of the moment. We’re not sure exactly how to best spell out the iconic Tim Allen noise either.

The correct answer? Law & Order, which is famous for its “chung-chung” sound effect that comes at the end of the iconic theme song. Jennings, seemingly already in a goofy mood, also tried his hand at making the effect.

“I don’t know how you phoneticize that,” the host laughed. People in the comment section of the video gave their best guesses at how to spell the sound, with some insisting it’s “dun dun,” while others called it “bang bang” and “doink doink.”

Fabros and Meyer both answered the clue correctly, ending the episode with $15,201 and $35,000, respectively. Meyer’s win is a continuation of his winning streak, which is now six days long.

Jeopardy! fans loved getting to see a more lighthearted moment from Jennings. While the game show host does like to joke around with the contestants, he typically keeps things on track, especially when it comes to revealing answers to clues. This recent moment from Jennings shows how much more comfortable he is in his role as Jeopardy! host this season.

Man Who Attended Over 9,000 Consecutive Nights Of Concerts (That’s 26 Years!) Announces Streak Has Tragically Ended https://www.suggest.com/beatle-bob-man-who-attended-over-9000-consecutive-nights-concerts-26-years-announces-streak-tragically-ended/2720137/ Sat, 28 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720137 Beatle Bob in a black coat and sunglasses dancing near the side stage at a festival

Everyone loves going to concerts, but one man took it to a whole new level! Robert Matonis—better known as Beatle Bob—is infamous for attending 9,439 consecutive concerts over the last 26 years, but unfortunately, that streak has come to an end.

Matonis started his concert streak on December 25, 1996 and has been to a show every night since, barring 85 days during the COVID-19 lockdowns. So, what caused Matonis to give up his nightly concert routine?

He explained it all in a recent Instagram post, telling fans he has been reflecting on the last year. “For myself, it was the worst year of my life ever as in February of last year I was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” Matonis revealed.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as ALS, is a neurodegenerative disease that leads to a loss of control in the muscles. Some people who are affected by the disease experience stiff muscles and weakness, while others experience difficulty speaking and eating.

Matonis explained that weakened muscles in his neck have made it hard for him to lift his head, talk, and even swallow. This difficulty with eating caused Matonis to lose around 25 pounds, which has left him in “a weakened condition.”

Beatle Bob isn’t the only person who has had to end a long-running streak due to ALS. The disease is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, named after the baseball star who had to end his sports career after the disease seriously affected his motor skills. His retirement ended his own streak; Gehrig played a whopping 2,130 consecutive major league games during his baseball career.

Matonis’ condition has left him unable to dance, or even stand, during concerts and he has undergone some medical treatments to help him recover his strength. “It was a good concert run while it lasted,” Matonis concluded. “And hopefully my weight will return fast enough to put me back on the dance floor.” Beatle Bob fans are disappointed that he won’t be out and about at shows for the foreseeable future but are eagerly rooting for his health and return to the St. Louis concert scene!

Coca-Cola Facing Lawsuit Over How Healthy ‘Simply Orange’ Brand Really Is https://www.suggest.com/coca-cola-facing-lawsuit-over-how-healthy-simply-orange-brand-really-is/2719010/ Fri, 27 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719010 stock photo of Simply Orange orange juice on a grocery store refrigerated shelf

Coca-Cola and Simply Orange Juice are facing a class-action lawsuit after it was revealed that their supposedly all-natural juice is actually contaminated with toxic PFAS at levels “hundreds of times” above federal advisory limits for drinking water.

The suit was filed in New York and is asking a judge to order the company to pay the plaintiffs damages. Their complaint points out that Simply Orange’s claims of using “all natural ingredients” with “nothing to hide” are false.

By saying the company uses “filtered water,” the company leads “reasonable consumers to believe that additional care has been taken to remove any incidental chemicals or impurities,” the suit states.

“In reality, testing has revealed that the product contains [PFAS], a category of synthetic chemicals that are, by definition, not natural,” it continued. The suit also alleged that third-party testing found two of the most dangerous types of these chemicals, which have been phased out of products in the U.S. but continue to contaminate the environment.

What Are PFAS And Why Are They Dangerous?

So, what are PFAS? The letters stand for “Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.” It’s a class of chemicals that are typically used to make certain products resistant to water, stains, and heat. They’re commonly referred to as “forever chemicals” because they don’t naturally break down. They have also been linked to cancer, fetal complications, liver disease, kidney disease, autoimmune disorders and other serious health issues.

Water is usually how people are exposed to PFAS, but they have also been found in certain foods. The FDA has taken few steps to address the dangers of these chemicals, and researchers say the organization is falling behind when it comes to testing for PFAS.

“As we get better and better able to measure PFAS at lower levels and the FDA falls further behind on what it is testing … then you’re going to keep seeing these lawsuits pop up,” said Tom Neltner, a chemicals policy director with the Environmental Defense Fund. This organization is a non-profit that is working to pressure the FDA into taking action on the topic of PFAS.

It’s unknown how or why these PFAS ended up in Simply Orange—it could have been through the water that is mixed with the juice, the packaging, or the fruit itself. Hopefully, this lawsuit will lead companies to take a closer look at the products they are putting on shelves.

Marlee Matlin, Two Others Walked Out Of Sundance Showing Of ‘Magazine Dreams’ Over Accessibility Issue https://www.suggest.com/marlee-matlin-two-others-walked-out-sundance-showing-magazine-dreams-over-accessibility-issue/2719371/ Fri, 27 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719371 close up of Marlee Matlin smiling in a green dress

Every few years, news comes out of audience members walking out of movies during film festivals like the Toronto International Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival, for example. This year, Marlee Matlin was one of three jury members who left a Sundance screening of Magazine Dreams—and for a very good reason.

Matlin, playwright Jeremy O. Harris, and screenwriter Eliza Hittman walked out of a showing of Magazine Dreams, a drama that was being shown at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Their reason? The captioning device used by the festival was malfunctioning, leaving Matlin unable to fully experience the movie.

Matlin has been deaf since she was 18 months old and has won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and four Emmys during her successful acting career. The actress is serving as a jury member for Sundance this year and was frustrated when she was given a captioning device that didn’t work.

Following the walk-out, Matlin, Harris, and Hittman sent a letter to filmmakers at Sundance, writing, “The U.S. independent cinema movement began as a way to make film accessible to everyone, not just those with the most privileges among us. As a jury our ability to celebrate the work that all of you have put into making these films has been disrupted by the fact that they are not accessible to all three of us.” They requested that screenings include open-captioning packages in order to afford all jurors and viewers the ability to fully experience the movie.

Matlin has been a major advocate for the deaf community throughout her career, successfully petitioning the Academy of Arts and Sciences to add subtitles to its awards screeners, as well as pushing the White House to provide onscreen sign language interpreters at press conferences.

The trio’s letter had the impact they wanted; Sundance CEO Joana Vicente replied to the letter, saying that the festival’s goal is to make all movies “as accessible as possible for all participants.”

“Our accessibility efforts are, admittedly, always evolving and feedback helps drive it forward for the community as a whole,” Vicente continued. She did point out that the captioning device worked “without malfunction” at other screenings.

Most might assume that people who walk out of movie screenings are simply being dramatic, but Matlin, Harris, and Hittman’s protest was much needed. Let’s hope that this statement will move accessibility in movies forward in the coming years.

Where You’ve Seen Ben Barnes, The Actor In The T-Mobile Commercial, Before https://www.suggest.com/ben-barnes-where-youve-seen-actor-t-mobile-commercial/2719124/ Fri, 27 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719124 headshot of Ben Barnes in a navy suit at the Westworld premiere

A new T-Mobile commercial has been getting people’s attention, and it’s not because of the service provider’s low prices. Many are curious about the “charming British actor” who’s been appearing in the ads. So, who is Ben Barnes?

The latest T-Mobile ad features Barnes as the aforementioned charming British actor that’s letting the public know about T-Mobile’s affordable phone plans. The actor stars in three different commercials, and people are loving his ads—but they can’t help but wonder where they’ve seen him before.

Where Have You Seen Ben Barnes Before?

Barnes has been in plenty of blockbuster movies and hit shows. He started acting while still in school, graduating from Kingston University with a BA in Drama. Barnes started acting professionally in 2006, showing up on screen and onstage.

His first big role was as Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The movie made Barnes a recognizable star, and he’s been in popular movies like Stardust, Dorian Gray, The Big Wedding, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

While Barnes has definitely made his mark on the big screen, he’s also starred in some popular TV shows. One of his biggest roles was in HBO’s Westworld, where he played main character Logan Delos. Barnes has also starred in Netflix’s The Punisher, Shadow and Bone, and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

However, acting isn’t all Barnes does. The actor has also launched a musical career. Barnes has sung on tracks for movies he’s starred in—Easy Virtue, Killing Bono, and Jackie & Ryan—and also has his own solo career. Barnes released Songs For You in 2021, and lead single “11:11” has earned over 5 million streams on Spotify.

Other Major Actors Who Have Starred In Commercials

Some might be surprised to see Barnes, a pretty successful actor, showing up as a spokesman for a cell phone company. However, he is far from the only big star who has appeared in commercials.

Some actors, like Kevin Miles (Jake from State Farm) and Milana Vayntrub (AT&T’s Lily), have made their careers as spokespeople. Others use their fame to promote major companies when they’re not working on projects. For example, George Clooney stars in ads for coffee company Nespresso, while Ryan Reynolds shows up to promote Mint Mobile, the phone company he owns.

Most people think that once an actor finds success in the movie and TV industry, they stop appearing in small projects like phone commercials. However, it’s clear that stars of all sorts will still say yes to being a spokesman when the price is right.

New Study Questions The Benefits Of Intermittent Fasting, Especially In Middle Age https://www.suggest.com/new-study-questions-benefits-intermittent-fasting-especially-midlife/2718810/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718810 Plate with fork and knife set up like hands of a clock

It seems like every day, new information comes out about a diet or a weight loss trick that’s a foolproof way to shed some pounds. One of the latest trends is intermittent fasting, but a new study has uncovered some surprising information about the potential efficacy of this dieting method.

The study looked at the eating habits of almost 550 adults (with an average age of 51) in the Maryland and Pennsylvania areas. The researchers were specifically looking at the impact of the timing of food consumption and its relationship to weight gain.

Timing food consumption (also known as intermittent fasting) is a new weight-loss trend that encourages people to stop eating for a specific period of time each day or week.

For example, some people alternate their fasting from day to day, eating normally one day and eating nothing the next. Others decide to stop eating at a certain time each day and don’t eat again until the next morning.

Dr. Wendy Bennett, an associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and one of the co-authors of the study, discussed its findings with Today.

According to Bennett, study subjects used an app to track their eating, sleeping, and exercising habits. So, what were the findings?

Does Intermittent Fasting Really Affect Weight Loss?

According to the study, the findings of which were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, the timing of meals had almost no impact on someone’s weight. The main cause of weight gain? The amount of food eaten.

The study explained that they “found an association between the eating of more frequent and larger meals per day and weight increase, indicating that total overall caloric intake is the major driver of weight gain.”

They also added that the results of the study “did not support the use of time-restricted eating as a strategy for long-term weight loss in a general medical population.”

That said, it should be noted the findings were largely based on self-reported eating habits. Additionally, caloric intake was documented by approximate meal sizes (a slice of pizza equating 500 calories, half a pizza reporting a meal between 500 and 1,000 calories, and a whole pizza indicating 1,000 or more calories).

Additionally, Dr. Holly Loften, director of the NYU Langone Weight Management Program, and Dr. Ann Lala, a cardiologist at Mount Sinai Health, both spoke to Today questioning the methodology and data presented to draw such conclusions.

While intermittent fasting (IF) may or may not be the ideal diet choice for weight loss, it should be noted that there are documented health benefits of practicing IF, especially for women near or in menopause. Studies have noted that intermittent fasting can help with lowering blood pressure, lowering LDL cholesterol, reducing diabetes risk, and potentially making the body more resilient to diseases.

Al Roker Shares What May Have Saved His Life After Recent Health Scare And Why It’s Never Too Late To Get Healthy https://www.suggest.com/al-roker-shares-saved-life-after-health-scare-never-too-late-get-healthy/2718883/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718883 Al Roker smiling in a red suit

Al Roker is still recovering after his lengthy stay at the hospital and his home following complications caused by blood clots. Part of that recovery includes continuing healthy lifestyle choices, from his diet to his fitness routine.

The Fitness Routine That ‘Helped Save’ Roker’s Life

Roker has been very open about his health struggles and has shared some tips with TODAY fans about some of the things doctors say helped him survive this terrifying time. “My doctor said the physical condition I was in because of the walking—because of the cardio—that probably helped save my life,” he said

“Whatever you do to start moving, to start getting up and doing stuff—it doesn’t matter how much or how little as long as you’re doing something—that makes a big difference,” he continued.

The Today anchor joked that he was given some health advice that he’s never received before. “I’ve heard something that I’ve never heard in my adult life, which was ‘Oh you’ve got to gain weight,’” Roker laughed.

He explained, “Because of my blood work, my doctors said you need more protein. I went from 190 pounds to 155 pounds.” This weight loss is common, and Roker is working on putting back on the pounds, telling fans he’s back to 165 pounds.

Roker’s New Diet Includes ‘Good Fats’ And Mediterranean Meals

Roker also shared that he’s had to focus a little more on his diet, especially now that his gallbladder has been removed. He explained that his doctors want him to eat more protein, so he’s trying to only eat “good fats.”

“Last night for dinner, we had salmon, quinoa and roasted brussels sprouts and salad,” Roker listed off. “And at night, I had a scoop of ice cream. As opposed to eating the entire pint, I just had a scoop.”

He’s also been working on his skills in the kitchen, sharing that he and his wife Deborah Roberts are “mov[ing] toward a Mediterranean diet.” This means more grains, like quinoa, brown rice, and sweet potatoes.

“When we eat red meat, it’s not as much as we used to get,” Roker went on. “Now a good bone-in ribeye, the three of us will eat that and most of the meat is being eaten by Nick [his son, 20]. Now that he’s going back to school this weekend, we’ll actually have food in the house for longer than an hour.”

From continuing his cardio routine to making smart choices about what he eats each day, Roker is keeping his health at the forefront of his mind as he works to fully recover. His work to change his diet and fitness habits show that it’s never too late to make healthy changes!

Regina King’s First Instagram Post In More Than A Year Heartbreakingly Commemorates Her Son’s Life https://www.suggest.com/regina-king-son-instagram-post-suicide-anniversary/2717696/ Tue, 24 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717696 Regina King and Ian Alexander Jr. at the 45th NAACP Image Awards

It’s been a whole year since Regina King last posted on Instagram, but she recently returned to the app to share something intensely personal. The actress posted a touching tribute to her son, Ian Alexander Jr., whom she lost at this time last year.

Before Alexander’s death, King posted fairly regularly, uploading red carpet shots, promotional pictures for her upcoming projects, and videos of her spending time with friends and family. These days, King seemingly prefers to stay away from social media. However, she returned to Instagram to mark the occasion of Alexander’s birth and celebrate his life with a moving post.

“January 19th is Ian’s Worthday,” she wrote under a video of a floating lantern, referring to her son’s birthday. “As we still process his physical absence, we celebrate his presence. We are all in different places on the planet … so is Ian. His spirit is the thread that connects us.”

She continued, writing directly to her son, “Of course orange is your favorite color … [It’s] the fire and the calm. I see you in everything I [breathe]. My absolute favorite thing about myself is being … Regina the mother of Ian the GodKing. Continue to shine bright, my guiding light.”

Many of King’s friends showed their support under the post, sending messages of love. Tracee Ellis Ross posted a string of orange hearts, while Niecy Nash wrote, “My friend. I think of you often. I always pray for your strength & peace in the midst of loss and grief. I love you.”

King Was ‘Devastated At The Deepest Level’ By Her Son’s Death

Alexander died by suicide on January 22, 2022 at the age of 26. King released a statement at the time, saying, “Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian. He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time.”

Alexander was a musician and DJ who had released a new single, “Green Eyes,” just two weeks before his death. He also had a series of concerts planned for the weeks following his passing.

Alexander was King’s only child. She shared him with her ex-husband, record producer Ian Alexander Sr. King likes to stay off social media these days, but fans and friends alike appreciated getting the chance to lend their support during this time and were inspired by the way she’s processed the loss of her son.

‘Jeopardy!’ Triple Stumper Made Six Flags A Whole Lot Less Fun For Us https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-triple-stumper-made-six-flags-whole-lot-less-fun-for-us/2718686/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718686 screenshot of Ken Jennings hosting Final Jeopardy

It’s not surprising that there are moments in history people might not want to remember. However, a recent Jeopardy! triple-stumper had some viewers feeling uncomfortable about the origin of the name of Six Flags Theme Park.

A recent episode saw real estate analyst Alec Wang, high school teacher Erin Portman, and risk manager Vince Bacani face off against each other. All performed admirably, but there was one question that had all three contestants clueless.

The $800 clue for the category “Six Pack” read, “The ‘Six Flags’ over Texas refer to the entities that have controlled it; sixth is the USA, this was fifth.” All three players were stumped, so host Ken Jennings was the one to reveal the answer: the Confederacy.

Many viewers were shocked to learn why the theme park was named Six Flags and that the Confederate flag was one of the six eponymous flags. The theme park originated in Texas and was named after the six different nations that have governed the state: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States of America, and the Confederate States of America.

Six Flags Parks Were Still Flying The Flag In 2017

Shockingly, three of the company’s parks were still flying the Confederate flag as late as 2017. Two of the parks were in Texas, and the other was in Georgia. Initially, park officials at Six Flags Over Texas stated there were no plans to remove the flag, though they changed course shortly afterwards.

Six Flags didn’t apologize for flying the flag but did release a statement saying, “We’re just choosing to display symbols that everyone can support, that being the American flag. We’re flying all American flags.”

Six Flags Prepares To Open First Overseas Park

Today, the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation owns 20 amusement parks in North America alone and owns the most theme parks and water parks combined of any amusement park company.

The company also boasts the seventh highest attendance rate in the world, with parks in California, Massachusetts, Illinois, Mexico, and Canada. Six Flags is also currently working on Six Flags Qiddiya, which will be located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is set to open this year.

This recent Jeopardy! triple-stumper has clued fans in on the problematic history behind Six Flags’ name, as well as the fact that the Confederate flag was only removed from all of the company’s parks a few years ago. Hopefully, the next round of competitors will brush up on their American/roller coaster history before the game.

‘Titanic’ Released A New Poster For Its 25th Anniversary, But Fans Can’t Stop Talking About Kate Winslet’s Hair https://www.suggest.com/kate-winslet-titanic-released-new-poster-anniversary-fans-talking-hair/2717910/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717910 Leonardo DiCaprio (L) and Kate Winslet smiling in 1998

Titanic is still one of the most beloved movies of all time, so it’s no surprise that the filmmakers are going all out for the 25th anniversary of its release. The movie will return to theaters in honor of the milestone, but a poster intended to drum up excitement for the event has fans more focused on Kate Winslet’s hairstyle.

James Cameron’s Titanic was released in 1997 and quickly became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Winslet, Titanic scooped up dozens of awards, including Golden Globes, Grammys, and an Oscar.

Titanic was rereleased in 2012 in 3D and in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary, so it’s no surprise that Paramount is putting it back in theaters to celebrate 25 years of the beloved movie.

A poster was released to announce the film’s return to theaters, letting fans know Titanic will be back on the big screen February 10. While this was exciting news, many people were distracted by the photo of Winslet used on the movie poster.

Fans Can’t Help But Notice Winslet’s Confusing Hairstyle

The poster features a shot of DiCaprio and Winslet embracing, with the actress’ face turned to the side. People immediately pointed out that she has two extremely different hairstyles on either side of her head. On one side, her red hair is loose and natural; on the other, it’s pinned into a curly updo.

The comments quickly filled with people pointing out how strange Winslet’s hair looked and questioning why the poster’s designer decided to photoshop two different styles on the actress.

“why is her hair in two different hairstyles” one user replied. “Who was in charge of the poster? I could do better with Picart” another confused fan commented.

One person tried to give an explanation, writing, “it’s bc she was wearing a fancy up-do that fell down as the movie progressed.” They went on to explain that the hair is still halfway pulled up, with all the hair that’s come undone pushed over to one side. The writer also pointed out that Winslet has the same hairstyle on the original movie poster.

The stark white background of the 25th anniversary poster has made Winslet’s confusing hairstyle way more noticeable, which explains why it’s gone viral. The slightly silly poster definitely won’t have an impact on the rerelease’s box office totals, though.

Original fans can’t wait to relive their first time seeing the movie, while new fans are excited for the chance to see Titanic on the big screen!

Jessica Simpson Posts Rare Photo With Sister Ashlee And Their Mom https://www.suggest.com/jessica-simpson-ashlee-posts-rare-photo-sister-mom/2717925/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717925 Jessica Simpson (L) in black dress and Ashlee Simpson in gray sweatshirt

It looks like this weekend was all about family time for Jessica Simpson and her sister Ashlee! The pair met up with their mother Tina for a birthday celebration, and Jessica shared a rare picture of the occasion.

“We are because She is…” Jessica captioned a photo of the group. “Thank you Mom for living 62 years of life to the very fullest. You inspire unwavering strength and determination with the purest of hearts. Hero status, indeed. We had a beautiful week celebrating our Mom- the natural born small and mighty!”

Tina commented on her daughter’s post, writing, “I love you @jessicasimpson even more that you said I was 62 not 63!”

In the photo, Jessica is wearing a glamorous silver and black sequined jacket and a statement necklace with turquoise beads. Ashlee is sporting a black top and leopard printed purse, coordinating with Tina, who is also wearing a black top.

Fans loved this rare glimpse of Jessica’s relationship with her sister. The pair is close, but Jessica rarely posts pictures of her younger sister.Jessica’s followers also loved seeing Tina, and many commented on how much she looks like her daughters.

“She looks like she can be one of your sisters,” one person wrote. Another commented, “I think she’s aging backwards! Literally had to zoom in to make sure this was her! She looks like a 3rd sister!”

Jessica And Ashlee’s Close Relationship

While both sisters prefer to keep their family relationships out of the spotlight, Ashlee made a rare public comment about Jessica in 2020 after the Dukes of Hazzard star published her memoir, Open Book

“I am so very proud of my beautiful, brave, kind, loving sister!!!” Ashlee wrote under a picture of the book’s cover. “It’s beautiful to see you sharing your truth with the world. You are so inspiring. I love you so much.”

Jessica’s reply was just as sweet: “I could not have done any of this without your eternal love and endless support!!! Your bravery in life has taught me how to bandage up my wings and FLY I love you”

Even though Jessica and Ashlee don’t post a lot about their relationship or the time they spend together, it’s clear the sisters are extremely supportive of each other!

The Tragic Stories Of Pedro Pascal’s Mom And Dad https://www.suggest.com/pedro-pascal-tragic-stories-mom-dad/2717664/ Sun, 22 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717664 Pedro Pascal smiling in a suave black jacket and suit with black rimmed glasses

Pedro Pascal is one of the biggest actors in both film and television right now. From starring in blockbusters like Wonder Woman 1984 to hit shows like The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, the actor is everywhere these days. His life might seem charmed, but Pascal’s family life has been marred by tragedies.

Pascal was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1975 to Verónica Pascal Ureta, a child psychologist, and José Balmaceda Riera, a fertility doctor. The family fled the country shortly after his birth due to their political affiliations. They sought asylum in Denmark before finally settling in the United States.

In 1993, Pascal moved to New York City and enrolled at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Two years later, his family was rocked by a scandal involving his father and the fertility clinic he ran alongside two other doctors.

Pascal’s Father Fled The Country

Dr. Balmaceda was world-famous for his innovative fertility treatments, but in 1995, he and his partners were accused of stealing patients’ eggs and embryos and implanting them in other women without their knowledge or consent.

Around 40 former patients filed lawsuits against Balmaceda and his partner, and some even filed lawsuits against other patients, seeking custody of children they claim are biologically theirs.

Balmaceda, his wife, and the family’s two youngest children went back to Chile—allegedly to avoid the criminal charges and lawsuits. He was labeled a fugitive and indicted on twenty counts of mail fraud for insurance billing. Pascal and his sister stayed in New York and the actor maintains that his father did nothing wrong.

Unfortunately, this was not the end of the family’s troubles. In 1999, Pascal’s mother committed suicide. Pascal took her surname as his professional moniker to honor her memory. In 2001, Balmaceda was arrested at the Ezeiza Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and held for extradition to the United States.

Pascal’s father was released and told not to leave Argentina but returned to Chile before his court hearing. Balmaceda claimed he would not be able to find justice under Argentinian law. Today, he serves as the director of the Latin American Assisted Reproduction Network, overseeing clinics in Chile, Peru, and Bolivia. He maintains that he is innocent of all charges

Pascal remains close with his father—Balmaceda shared the family has a WhatsApp group chat—but does not typically speak about his parents publicly. Many of Pascal’s biggest fans have no clue about the tragedies that impacted his family while he was still a young man.

How Being Drunk Helped One Titanic Survivor Save Multiple Lives, Including His Own https://www.suggest.com/how-being-drunk-helped-one-titanic-survivor-save-multiple-lives-including-his-own/2717608/ Sun, 22 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717608 Charles Joughin standing in black and white photo

The sinking of the Titanic is a well-covered topic, earning blockbuster movies, bestselling books, and TV specials about the tragedy. Most remember the people who were lost in the sinking, but what about the survivors? Charles Joughin, a baker in the ship’s kitchen crew, made it out alive and some people think he had alcohol to thank for his survival.

Joughin was the chief baker on board the Titanic. His kitchen skills would not seemingly translate to survival skills, but a viral Twitter thread revealed Joughin’s quick thinking saved not only his life but also those of his coworkers.

Author Laura Keating posted a series of tweets about Joughin, sharing that he ordered his staff on deck shortly after the ship struck the iceberg. Once he saw the lifeboats were being prepared, he had his staff collect provisions for the passengers, then helped load women and children into the boats.

According to Keating, Joughin even chased down hysterical passengers who were too scared to board the lifeboats and began throwing them in. Despite being captain of Lifeboat 10, which secured him a place on the boat and off the sinking ship, Joughin refused to board and gave his spot up for someone else.

He continued to help get passengers on the lifeboats and off the ship. Once all the boats were gone, Joughin was trapped, along with thousands of others. So, he did what many would do in such a hopeless situation: he started drinking.

As Joughin walked the decks, steadily drinking, he also threw wooden deckchairs into the water as flotation devices for people who would end up in the water. The baker then heard a loud crash and ran to the back of the boat, where he climbed over the ship’s railing and calmly rode the sinking ship down into the water.

Joughin swam in the 28-degree Fahrenheit water for two hours—Keating pointed out that most people would not survive 15 minutes in such conditions. So, how did Joughin make it out alive?

How Drinking Saved Joughin’s Life

Some have hypothesized that Joughin’s multiple drinks warmed him up enough to help him survive in the frigid conditions. However, hypothermia expert Gordon Giesbrecht told the National Post that the water would have been too cold for the alcohol to sufficiently warm his body.

The alcohol did save Joughin, though. The “liquid courage” the drinks gave him meant that the baker kept his head while others were panicking. He was calm, cool, and collected as he helped others get into lifeboats.

This phenomenon isn’t new; according to a recent study of Illinois hospital data, the more inebriated a stab or gunshot victim was, the more likely it was they would survive.

Joughin suffered no serious injuries and ended up moving to the United States, where he lived until his death in 1956 at the age of 78. His amazing story of survival is a reminder to keep calm and help others in a crisis—as well as proof that sometimes a drink can save your life!

‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Graciously Shares His Secret To Having The Best Hair On The Show https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-contestant-graciously-shares-secret-having-best-hair-on-show/2717631/ Sun, 22 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717631 Jimmy Davoren competing on Jeopardy in a blue blazer with just above shoulder length swept blond hair that looks like what the Beegees always wanted

Jeopardy! contestants are memorable for many reasons—from aggressive gameplay styles to an impressive recall of trivia, many players make their mark on viewers. One recent competitor is earning attention for an entirely different reason, though: his hair!

Jimmy Davoren is a California teacher who competed on a recent episode of Jeopardy! Davoren didn’t end up winning (a risky bet during Final Jeopardy left him with $0), but he did make an impression on viewers.

Many Jeopardy! fans were struck by Davoren’s long, voluminous blond hair. Some wondered what his haircare routine was, and the Californian took to Reddit to answer fans’ questions about his hairstyle.

“My hair is naturally super thick,” he wrote. “I use Prose shampoo and conditioner every day now, but at the time of taping—that is pure Head & Shoulders Clinical Strength, baby.” Prose is a vegan custom shampoo that is tailored to each customer’s hair needs and type with a simple quiz. Fans loved his answer, with many commenting on his thread.

“Thank you for your locks. They livened up the stage,” one person wrote. “Call me shallow but I saw your hair in the preview at the end of Friday’s episode and said ‘I’m rooting for that guy already,’” someone else laughed.

Another fan wrote, “Dude! I was crushing on your hair so hard! It made it hard to focus on the game!!” Someone else even asked follow-up questions about his use of Prose, then laughed, “I can’t believe I’m asking haircare questions in a Jeopardy sub[reddit].”

Another praised him for his “amazing hair,” adding, “And as far as hair of contestants go, you will be the Ken Jennings of Jeopardy hair. Legendary.” Davoren replied, “I only started growing it out last school year due to the hectic schedule of work with a young child. It was shaggy for a bit and then suddenly… suddenly, my wife wouldn’t let me cut it, haha.”

Davoren didn’t end up winning big during his time on Jeopardy! but he put up a good fight against his competitors. He played against Katie Palumbo, a museum interpreter from New York, and Yogesh Raut, a writer and podcast who was on a three-day winning streak.

Even though Raut was a returning champ, Palumbo took home the title in a close race to the finish. She ended the episode with $23,100, while Raut came in a close second with $22,801. Davoren might not be on a winning streak, but Jeopardy! fans will always remember that impressive head of hair!

Marie Osmond Reiterates Stance On Passing On Her Fortune, Calls It A ‘Great Disservice To Your Children’ https://www.suggest.com/marie-osmond-reiterates-stance-passing-fortune-great-disservice-children/2717276/ Sat, 21 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717276 Marie Osmond smiles in yellow cardigan over patterned dress

Most people assume that being the child of a celebrity means living a privileged life. For Marie Osmond’s kids, though, that is not the case. The singer has repeatedly discussed her intentions to not leave her children an inheritance.

Osmond is a mother of eight—Stephen, 39; Rachael, 31; Jessica, 35; Brandon, 26; Brianna, 24; Matthew, 23; and Abigail, 18; and Michael, who died by suicide at the age of 18 in 2010—and a grandmother to eight more little ones.

Marie Osmond Thinks A Large Inheritance ‘Breed[s] Laziness And Entitlement’

The singer might have plenty of wealth to share, but she’s made it clear she has no intention of handing her children or grandkids money or a career. “Honestly, why would you enable your child to not try to be something?” she told Us Weekly. “I don’t know anybody who becomes anything if they’re just handed money.”

“To me, the greatest gift you can give your child is a passion to search out who they are inside and to work,” Osmond explained. “I mean, I’ve done so many things…I love trying [and] I wanna try everything. I’m a finisher.”

She continued, “That’s one of my rules with my kids. If you start it, you finish it, you don’t ever have to do it again, but you gotta finish. And, I just think all [an inheritance] does is breed laziness and entitlement. I worked hard and I’m gonna spend it all and have fun with my husband [Steve Craig].”

This isn’t the first time Osmond has talked about her decision to not leave her family members a hefty inheritance. “I think you do a great disservice to your children to just hand them a fortune because you take away the one most important gift you can give your children, and that’s the ability to work,” Osmond said during an appearance on The Talk. “You see it a lot in rich families where the kids, they don’t know what to do and so they get in trouble. Let them be proud of what they make. I’m going to give mine to my charity.”

She Adds ‘I Don’t Not Help My Children’

That’s not to say that Osmond doesn’t lend a hand to her family when they need it. “I don’t not help my children. I mean, [if] they need help [buying] a car or something, [I will pitch in,]” Osmond she said. Osmond’s plans to not give her children a large inheritance when she passes away is indicative of her belief in the value of hard work—something that many admire about the star.

Madonna Is On The Road This Summer, But Will This Tour Face The Same Issues That Plagued Her Last Tour? https://www.suggest.com/madonna-will-upcoming-tour-avoid-issues-plagued-her-last-tour/2717167/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717167 Madonna poses in black latex police uniform costume

Madonna fans, rejoice! The legendary pop star is touring for the first time since 2019, and people around the world can’t wait to see her perform. However, some have wondered if her 2023 tour will suffer from the same issues that plagued her 2019 Madame X tour.

The “Material Girl” singer announced her upcoming Celebration tour by removing all posts from her Instagram account. She then uploaded a black-and-white video of herself sitting around a dinner table with stars like Amy Schumer, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, and Judd Apatow.

In the video, the group is playing Truth or Dare, and Schumer ends up daring Madonna to go on a world tour. Madonna accepts, and the dinner party devolves into a dance party. The singer then addresses the camera, telling fans she’ll be playing hits from the last four decades.

Why The ‘Madame X’ Tour Was Problematic

This is the first tour Madonna has been on since 2019, when she performed in support of her fourteenth studio album, Madame X. Madonna always puts on an amazing show, but this tour was plagued by issues that led some fans to file a class action lawsuit against the pop star.

One of the biggest problems was her tardiness—at a Las Vegas show with a 10:30 p.m. start time, Madonna didn’t go onstage until 12:30 a.m. After a Miami concert was also pushed back two hours, one man filed a lawsuit against Madonna and unsuccessfully tried to get a refund for his tickets.

In addition to tardiness, Madonna was also forced to cancel many shows due to a recurring knee injury. “I have to listen to my body And accept that my pain is a warning I want to say how deeply sorry I am to all my fans,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the cancellations

There were also complaints about the setlist for the tour. The shows primarily featured songs from Madame X and were light on her greatest hits. Many concert-goers were disappointed that they didn’t get to hear singles like “Material Girl” or “Like A Virgin.”

Even though Madonna’s last tour had its issues, it seems unlikely that fans will have to worry too much about these problems this time around. The Celebration tour is a greatest hits tour, so Madonna will definitely sing all the big songs people want to hear. She also won’t be dealing with a knee injury anymore.

Madonna is one of the greatest performers of the last few decades, so the pop star is sure to put on some amazing shows on this tour!

Kate Middleton And Prince William Stepping Out In Color-Coordinating Outfits May Have A Deeper Meaning https://www.suggest.com/kate-middleton-prince-william-stepping-out-color-coordinating-outfit-deeper-meaning/2716804/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716804 Prince William (L) and Kate Middleton smiling against patterned backdrop

When it comes to the royal family, there’s no better team than Prince William and Kate Middleton! The couple frequently works together, from visits to charitable organizations to learning about green farming initiatives. The Prince and Princess of Wales recently stepped out together in coordinating outfits, once again showing the world how perfectly paired they are.

For their first official appearance of 2023, William and Middleton visited the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. The couple visited staff and mental health service workers while touring the new hospital facilities.

“They were so welcoming. They were so warm and friendly,” ophthalmic imaging technician Amber Otto said of the couple’s visit. “Even when they were being rushed out, they made sure they made time for everybody.”

Frieda Sebastian, a deputy ward manager at the hospital, said it was “really encouraging and motivating” to have the couple visit, and praised William and Middleton for “understanding what we as nurses do for the NHS.”

The couple even color-coordinated their outfits for their first public appearance of the year. William wore a navy blazer and trousers, paired with a forest green sweater and light blue button down shirt. Middleton sported a matching navy belted dress, with a coordinating dark green and navy plaid overcoat.

After leaving the hospital, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stopped at the Open Door Charity, an organization that uses creative projects to help young people handle challenges in their lives. Some of their projects include introducing mindfulness techniques to teens and putting on activities like movie nights and dance classes for young people in the area.

Middleton And William Love Color-Coordinating Their Outfits

This isn’t the first time the Prince and Princess of Wales have presented a united front through their clothing choices. On their Boston visit last year, the couple wore matching burgundy ensembles—Middleton in a burgundy suit, William in a matching sweater.

During a 2021 visit to Scotland’s European Marine Energy Centre, the pair took the matching one step further. Both Middleton and William wore jeans and matching olive green jackets to greet the crowds.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are the perfect team when it comes to public appearances, from their shared commitment to promoting positive mental health to making sure their clothing matches their solid relationship.

Woman Ordered To Pay Over $2000 For ‘Time Theft’ After Employer Used Software To Track Her Time https://www.suggest.com/woman-ordered-pay-time-theft-after-employer-used-software-track-time/2716720/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716720 Overhead view of a woman's hands holding a smartphone over the keyboard of a laptop. Remote work has changed the way people view their jobs. Working from home might mean more leeway when it comes to your work hours, but one Canadian woman is facing a hefty fine from a company that fired her after claiming she engaged in “time theft.”

Canadian Accountant Got Fired After Being Accused Of ‘Time Theft’

Karlee Besse worked remotely for Reach CPA, a Canadian accounting company. Last year, she was fired, and Besse claimed it was without “just cause.” However, her employers stated that she engaged in time theft and misrepresented the hours she was actually working.

Reach CPA used a time-tracking software system called TimeCamp, which makes note of the files that are accessed and how long a user is on the file. According to the TimeCamp records, Besse reported working 50 more hours than what was logged on the software system. A Canadian court ruled that she would have to pay $2,756 to Reach CPA .

Besse is fighting back, though, claiming that she struggled to use the software properly. She accessed the company computer for personal use during non-work hours—something her bosses okayed—and claimed TimeCamp did not differentiate between work and personal use.

She also said she spent a significant amount of time working with paper documents and didn’t want to tell her bosses because “they wouldn’t want to hear that.” However, TimeCamp also tracks employees’ printing and there is no record of Besse printing the documents she claims she made hard copies of.

When confronted about the different timesheets, Besse did admit she incorrectly logged her hours on TimeCamp, saying, “I’ve plugged time to files that I didn’t touch and that wasn’t right or appropriate in any way or fashion, and I recognize that and so for that I’m really sorry” (per NPR).

The Battle Between WFH Employees And Employers

The Canadian courts ruled in Reach CPA’s favor and gave Besse 30 days to pay back the accounting firm, but this incident has opened up a discussion about employers and employees’ work-from-home relationships.

Many companies claim that they have a right to know what their employees are doing while on the clock or with company property. However, workers argue that tracking computer activity is intrusive and will encourage workplace surveillance both at home and in the office.

There are also concerns about the software tools companies use, with some employees pointing out that glitches or user errors could make it seem like they hadn’t actually worked the hours they put in.

The pandemic changed the way people around the world work and the business world is struggling to keep up with work-from-home systems. Time-tracking software is one way for employers to regulate what their workers are doing, but it’s clear there are still issues to figure out in the work-from-home world.

This ‘Jeopardy!’ Video Clue Instantly Gave Us Our New Number One Vacation Destination https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-video-clue-instantly-gave-new-number-one-vacation-destination/2716402/ Thu, 19 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716402 the sun setting over mountains covered in trees

Viewers of Jeopardy! are always learning something from the clues and questions that contestants have to answer, from historical facts to pop culture gossip. One episode of the game show gave some fans another bit of information: a potential vacation spot!

Contestants on the December 7, 2022, Jeopardy! episode had to answer questions from a category titled “Peaks and Valleys.” Host Ken Jennings read off one clue, accompanied by a photo, that intrigued some viewers.

“An underground wonderland, Virginia’s Luray Caverns are located in this scenic valley,” he told players, while showing a beautiful picture of the natural wonder. Tammy Groner correctly answered, “What’s the Shenandoah?”

Groner might have gotten this clue before the other players, but contestant Ron Cheung was the night’s big winner. The economics professor took home $19,599 and got to move on to the next round.

The players moved on to other categories and questions, but we were still thinking about the caverns. The Virginia landmark is a tourist destination and, as pointed out during its moment on Jeopardy!, it’s a must-see vacation spot in the States. So, what makes the Luray Caverns so special?

The cavern system, discovered in 1878, is full of geological marvels like stalagmites, stalactites, and large natural columns, as well as beautiful mirrored pools of water. One of the most famous attractions is the Great Stalacpipe Organ, which taps the cave’s rock formations to make musical sounds. The caverns cover 1.5 miles and attract thousands of visitors every year.

Why The Shenandoah Valley Is The Perfect Vacation Spot

The Luray Caverns aren’t the only natural landmark people can see in the Shenandoah Valley. The region of Northern Virginia spans 140 miles, with the Blue Ridge Mountains on one side and the Alleghenies on the other.

The area’s greatest asset is the Shenandoah National Park, where visitors can hike and go for scenic drives. The experience is all the more peaceful due to the fact that commercial trucks are not allowed on roads like Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can even stay in some of the most picturesque cabins we’ve ever seen that are yards away from the park.

The Appalachian Trail also runs through Shenandoah Valley, attracting both day-hikers and people determined to travel the entire trail. For those who don’t like to hike, you can canoe, kayak, or float in an innertube down one of the valley’s many rivers.
Most people don’t watch Jeopardy! for travel tips, but the recent clue about Luray Caverns has viewers considering a trip to the Shenandoah Valley to see the famous caves and enjoy the beautiful views.

Drama At ‘Good Morning America’ Intensifies As Suspended Hosts Hire Lawyers https://www.suggest.com/amy-robach-tj-holmes-good-morning-america-drama-intensifies-suspended-hosts-hire-lawyers/2716430/ Thu, 19 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716430 Amy Robach (L) in black dress posing next to TJ Holmes, who is wearing a black suit and tie

It looks like T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach are gearing up for a legal battle with Good Morning America. The anchors, who started a workplace romance last year, have hired two powerhouse attornies to potentially sue the morning show for taking them off the air.

T.J. Holmes And Amy Robach Lawyer Up

The anchors were taken off the air a few weeks after news of their affair broke, and it looks like the pair fears a permanent firing. TMZ reported that they have both employed lawyers who specialize in civil and celebrity cases.

Robach hired Andrew Brettler, who is considered one of the best civil lawyers in Hollywood, while Holmes partnered with Eric George, who has worked on many celebrity cases.

Since the anchors have not officially been fired, no lawsuits have been filed, but the outlet reported that Brettler and George are doing preliminary work to figure out what GMA might be planning.

TMZ reported that both lawyers have asked the network one big question: “Has ABC ever used the morals or conduct clause to fire or discipline 2 consenting adults at equal levels when both were white?”

According to their sources, this would be the first time GMA invoked this clause. Under the circumstances—a mixed-race couple—this element would add a new dimension to any wrongful termination lawsuits Robach and Holmes might file.

A Timeline Of Their Relationship

Holmes and Robach began co-hosting the third hour of GMA in 2020 and became fast friends, bantering on air and posting photos of each other on social media. They traveled together for the show and trained for a marathon, and fans loved how close the pair seemed to be.

In November of 2022, photos surfaced of Holmes and Robach on trips and at restaurants. The reason the pictures made headlines? In the photos, the two were holding hands—in one, Holmes was touching Robach’s backside.

The pictures and story went viral, with many hypothesizing that both anchors ended their respective marriages for the other; both Holmes and Robach separated from their spouses around the same time, but were still legally married when they struck up their relationship.

Robach and Holmes have not been let go from GMA, but their lengthy hiatus from the show makes many think the pair will be permanently fired by the network for the workplace romance. Their decision to hire lawyers seems like a pretty big clue that a legal battle might be coming.

Why Kate Middleton Made The Rare Choice To Remove Her Engagement Ring During Official Duty https://www.suggest.com/kate-middleton-made-rare-choice-remove-engagement-ring-during-official-duty/2715897/ Wed, 18 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715897 Kate Middleton smiles in bright blue top and matching cardigan

Kate Middleton recently returned to her public duties after a short break to celebrate her 41st birthday. While the visit to a new hospital was business as usual for the royal, eagle-eyed fans noticed something was missing: her engagement ring!

Where Was Middleton’s Engagement Ring On Recent Hospital Visit?

Middleton and her husband Prince William traveled to Liverpool to visit the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital. She and the prince toured the hospital and met with patients, even taking selfies with some lucky people.

As always, the Princess of Wales was dressed to impress. She wore a navy belted Cefinn dress with coordinating heels and a tartan overcoat. Middleton accessorized the look with a set of stunning sapphire earrings.

The earrings would have perfectly matched her eye-catching sapphire engagement ring—if she had been wearing it, that is. The princess is almost never seen without her ring, which caused some fans to panic. Why did Middleton ditch both her engagement ring and the eternity ring William gave her after the birth of their first child, Prince George?

The answer is pretty simple: the hospital patients’ health and safety. Excess jewelry could lead to the spread of germs. At the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, as well as many other hospitals Middleton has visited, protocol asks visitors to wear minimal jewelry (per Hello!). This rule about leaving jewelry at home explains why Middleton didn’t remove her gold wedding band.

This isn’t the only time Middleton has left her sapphire engagement ring at home. The Princess of Wales also removes her rings—barring her wedding band—when she attends events that might require physical activity, such as the Commonwealth Games.

It makes sense that Middleton would be protective of her engagement ring. The diamond and sapphire ring was once worn by William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, and is estimated to be worth about £390,000.

William has spoken about his decision to give Middleton his mother’s ring, saying it was his “way of keeping her sort of close to it all.” The 12-carat ring is made up of large Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds.

“It’s beautiful—I hope I look after it,” Middleton said of the statement-making ring during the couple’s engagement interview. “It’s very special.”

It’s strange to see the princess without her now-trademark engagement ring, but Middleton is a stickler for following hospital policy.

Kelly Clarkson Once Again Proves She Can Sing Anything With Incredible Rendition Of Blink-182 ‘s Biggest Hit https://www.suggest.com/kelly-clarkson-proves-she-can-sing-anything-incredible-rendition-blink-182-biggest-hit/2715878/ Wed, 18 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715878 Kelly Clarkson smiles in gold outfit standing in front of microphone

From singing to acting to hosting her own talk show—is there anything Kelly Clarkson can’t do? The American Idol winner frequently shows off her impressive vocal skills on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and a recent performance demonstrated that Clarkson can truly sing any genre.

The Kelly Clarkson Show launched in 2019 and immediately became a hit with viewers. The talk show has already racked up 23 Daytime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment, as well as three trophies for Clarkson as Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.

Clarkson interviews celebrities and shares stories of everyday people, but most fans’ favorite part of the show is the daily “Kellyoke” segment. Clarkson puts her impressive singing talents on display, belting out her favorite songs from the past and present.

Fans Praise Her Blink-182 Cover: ‘Girl You Can Sing ANYTHING’

Clarkson’s most recent Kellyoke pick has her fans celebrating her ability to sing any genre of song. Clarkson performed “All The Small Things” by the ’90s rock band Blink-182. In addition to singing the popular track, Clarkson got into character, sporting a flannel, choker, and combat boots for a ’90s grunge feel.

Viewers were impressed, as always, with Clarkson’s amazing vocal skills, as well as how perfectly her voice fit the song. The artist is frequently praised for her ability to sing songs from any genre and sound perfectly natural, from country to R&B to grunge rock.

“Girl you can sing ANYTHING and I’m here for it,” one fan commented on a clip that was posted to the show’s Instagram page. Another wrote, “I never knew I needed a Blink 182/Kelly Clarkson crossover, until this moment.”

“She can sing ANYTHING and make it gold dust!” one fan enthused. Another praised her outfit: “All the 90s outfit here!!! Flannel over a rock shirt, choker, grungy!! Love it!!! Also having flashbacks!! Haha.”

Could Another ‘Kellyoke’ EP Be On The Way?

Some fans wondered if this cover might be included on her next Kellyoke project. In 2022, Clarkson released the Kellyoke EP, with six covers of her favorite performances from the years past, including Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever,” Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night,” and Linda Ronstadt’s “Blue Bayou.”

There’s no word yet on whether or not Clarkson is planning on recording another Kellyoke EP, but fans are hopeful that she will—and that “All The Small Things” will make it onto the project’s tracklist.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Won With A Mind Boggling, Record-Setting Strategy https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-champion-won-with-mind-boggling-record-setting-strategy/2715865/ Wed, 18 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715865 screenshot of Yogesh Raut looking confident at the Jeopardy! podium

For casual viewers, a game-winning Jeopardy! strategy seems pretty straightforward—solve the clues. However, fans of the game show know there’s a lot more to it, which is why one contestant’s game strategy has been making waves.

The Player That’s Breaking Buzz-In Records

Yogesh Raut, a blogger, podcaster, and freelance writer, went on a three-game winning streak. Recent episodes have shown Raut deftly solving the clues, but there’s something else that set him apart from his fellow contestants: his buzzer technique

Raut averaged 55.5 buzzer attempts per game until he lost his fourth game, which brought his average to 53. For comparison, the average Jeopardy! player buzzes in somewhere between 30 to 40 times. One of the only other contestants that has come close to Raut’s numbers is Ray Lalonde, who once buzzed in 52 times. No other average comes close.

During the January 12 game, Raut attempted to buzz in 55 times and succeeded 33 of those times. The performance contributed to something the Jeopardy! record books took note of—the game saw all 61 clues solved correctly, with Raut knocking out more than half of them.

A handful of other players have reached buzz-in numbers in the 50s, but it’s an outlier and not an average. Raut blew the other contestants’ average buzz-in attempts out of the water, and some think it’s why he also outperformed his competitors.

By confidently buzzing in for almost every single clue, Raut racked up prize money at a very high rate. He ultimately finished with an impressive $96,403 in winnings. Of course, his buzz-in rate isn’t the only thing helping him win.

In addition to being consistent with his buzzer, Raut also clearly has a wide and diverse knowledge of trivia that allows him to try to answer every single clue. His correct answers, plus his non-stop buzzer technique, has allowed Raut to dominate the game. However, as some fans pointed out, the high number could also be a sign that Raut’s actual buzzing technique and speed were lacking, something he’s been criticized for since his start.

Some Were More Than Impressed With Raut’s Run

Fans definitely took notice of Raut’s strategy. “56 is absolutely absurd—I can’t find anyone else who had that many attempts,” one Reddit user wrote of the contestant’s buzz-in attempts

Another Redditor pointed out that the high number of buzz-ins also indicates how much a contestant knows, calling it “the best proxy we have for how many clues a contestant knows.” They continued, “His 56 attempts (which appears to be a Jeopardata-era record) with only one incorrect response makes it clear that Yogesh knew nearly all the material on this board, which is hugely refreshing.”

When playing Jeopardy!, it’s obvious that a contestant has to have a masterful command of trivia and facts. There are other things to consider, though, and Raut’s record-breaking performance has shown the importance of buzzing in quickly and often. After his narrow loss in his fourth game, however, it’s clear that Jeopardy! is still anyone’s game.

Princess Anne Took A Play Out Of Kate Middleton’s Playbook With Symbolic Brooch https://www.suggest.com/princess-anne-took-play-out-kate-middleton-playbook-symbolic-brooch/2715873/ Tue, 17 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715873 Princess Anne in a black coat with a light ascot and brooch

The royal family is famous for not making public statements—one of Queen Elizabeth’s mottos was “Never complain, never explain.” However, there are a few ways the royals can subtly signal things to the public, and that includes jewelry. Princess Anne recently took a page from the Princess of Wales’ book by choosing a particularly powerful brooch.

Princess Anne’s Subtle Show Of Support To UK Troops

Princess Anne visited Cyprus, touring the Presidential palace with President Nicos Anastasiades. For the engagement, she wore a gray suit and striped button down shirt, with her hair pinned back in her usual bun.

She accessorized the suit with a very significant pin on her lapel. The princess sported a Royal Logistics Corps Lapel Badge. The piece is small and plastic, featuring a crest and the French phrase “Honi soit qui mal y pense.” This translates to “Shame on him who thinks evil of it.” At the bottom of the pin, “We Sustain” is printed.

While most members of the royal family are seen wearing pretty pricey pieces of jewelry, the princess’ pin costs just £5.95 ($7.25). The pin is worn to signify an affiliation with the Royal Logistic Corps, which is the largest corps in the British Army. It provides logistical support functions to the Army.

It makes sense that Princess Anne would be supporting this branch of the British Army. She is the Colonel in Chief of the British Army’s Intelligent Corps. It’s also assumed that Anne wore this pin to support and honor the British soldiers who are currently serving in Cyprus with a United Nations peacekeeping force.

Kate Middleton’s Meaningful Jewelry Choices

Princess Anne is far from the only member of the British royal family who sends messages through their jewelry choices. Kate Middleton typically chooses significant pieces that mirror either the event she is at, or current events in the world at large.

Middleton memorably supported the people of Ukraine in their ongoing conflict with Russia with her jewelry during last year’s Commonwealth services. The Duchess of Cambridge wore the same sapphire-and-diamond earrings and necklace she wore when meeting Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, Olena, in 2020.

While the members of the royal family prefer to let their spokespeople relay official messages to the public, they do like to make their feelings known from time to time. Princess Anne’s subtle nod to the UK’s troops in Cyprus was a small but meaningful tribute to her nation’s soldiers.

CNN Planning Huge Overhaul In How It Presents The News https://www.suggest.com/cnn-planning-huge-overhaul-how-presents-news/2715162/ Mon, 16 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715162 stock photo of CNN's app on an iPhone screen

CNN is gearing up for some major changes this year. The network’s chairman and CEO has announced that viewers can expect new things from CNN, from where anchors report from to adding more content to late-afternoon programming.

CNN CEO Says Goal Is To ‘Reflect [Their] Energy On Air’

It looks like CNN wants to shake things up at the outlet and get reporters out of their comfort zones. This would mean taking anchors out from behind the desk in the studio and instead show them reporting in real time.

“The goal we have is to take an incredible newsgathering operation that has so much information coming in at all hours from all over the world, and, in an authentic way, reflect that energy on air,” Chris Licht, the chairman and CEO of CNN, explained

Network Will Experiment With Visuals, Field Reporting

The reason for this change? During this month’s coverage of the election of the U.S. Speaker of the House, CNN experimented with new formats. One of them was increasing interactions between anchors in the studio and reporters in the field, which viewers really responded to—according to Variety, CNN drew larger audiences of viewers ages 25–54 than their rivals.

“Our anchors are journalists, and some of the excitement and energy you saw was from people sitting on the set and reporting as they were anchoring,” Licht said of the format change. He didn’t divulge much about what CNN is planning for the coming year, but there are some theories.

Sources have reported that CNN is thinking about implementing a “newsroom headquarters” concept, where viewers would see multiple on-air personalities on the screen at once. Some of those people would be behind the traditional desk, while others would be out in the field reporting live.

Other Changes Licht Has Implemented

This plan would affect the timing of some of CNN’s programming. This new format would most likely not show up in morning content; instead, viewers would see it in late-afternoon programs.

It makes sense that Licht would want to shake things up at the network. He recently joined CNN and has already made some changes to revamp the channel, including cutting back on documentary programming to telling anchors they couldn’t drink on the air during the New Year’s Eve broadcast. CNN has made no announcements about any concrete plans for their 2023 programming, but it seems like viewers can expect a lot of changes at the network.

Sunny Hostin Opens Up About How Plastic Surgery Made Her ‘Feel Like A Better Version Of Herself’ https://www.suggest.com/sunny-hostin-plastic-surgery-made-her-feel-like-better-version-herself/2714791/ Mon, 16 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714791 Sunny Hostin smiling with hands on hips wearing nude dress against black backdrop

Plastic surgery is a hotly debated topic in Hollywood, and many stars prefer to stay tight-lipped about any procedures they have had. The View’s Sunny Hostin has gone against the grain, recently revealing the cosmetic procedures she has had in the past few years, as well as her thoughts on how cosmetic surgery can positively impact mental health.

Hostin: ‘I Feel Like A Better Version Of Myself’ After Surgeries

Hostin recently shared that she had a series of cosmetic procedures last year, including a breast reduction and lift, as well as liposuction. The daytime talk show host was initially hesitant to reveal her surgeries, but ultimately decided to share her story.

“I feel like a better version of myself,” she explained. “It was a health decision and a self-care decision.” Hostin shared that she spent years suffering from back pain, as well as body image issues. Now, she wants to destigmatize cosmetic procedures.

“I thought I would feel shame, like, ‘Oh my God, I’m doing plastic surgery like all these crazy celebrities.’ But I don’t feel shame at all,” Hostin explained. “And I hope sharing my story will help more people. If they’re feeling so body-conscious, the way I was—they can do what they need to do to feel better.”

Her Lifelong Body Image Issues

Hostin’s body image issues began when she was very young. By the age of 16, she was a double-D, and after having two children, her breast size went up ever more. When she joined The View in 2016, her insecurities were amplified.

“My waist was small, but my top was so big I would wear a minimizer bra and a sports bra or a binder all the time,” she explained. “Or I would get a very large dress, and then my stylist would put clips on the back of my dress so that everything would fit.”

Her breaking point came when the dress she planned to wear to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner didn’t fit in the bust. Hostin said she ended up wrapping her breasts in masking tape just to fit into the dress and was miserable the entire night. Something had to change.

Hostin Wanted To Be ‘Honest’ About Her Procedures

So, the summer of 2022, Hostin underwent a breast reduction and lift, as well as liposuction on her waist and chin. “It’s not glamorous,” she emphasized while discussing details about the two-week recovery process.

However, after recovering, Hostin is much happier. She went from a G-cup to a C-cup and feels “great.” While she understands why some people prefer to keep their procedures private, “I wanted to be really honest. And I’m so happy.”

Hostin’s transparency around her cosmetic surgeries is a great step towards erasing the stigma around harmless procedures that can boost your self-esteem!

How A ‘Sober Month’ Challenge With Friends Led Kelly Ripa To Give Up Drinking Entirely  https://www.suggest.com/kelly-ripa-sober-month-challenge-friends-led-give-up-drinking-entirely/2714771/ Sun, 15 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714771 Kelly Ripa smiles in black lace dress against orange backdrop

This month, many people are choosing to take part in “Dry January” and giving up alcohol for the month. Kelly Ripa has taken on the challenge before, and she claims it has led to her staying sober for the last few years.

How A ‘Sober Month’ Led To Ripa Giving Up Drinking

It all started when Ryan Seacrest joined Live! With Kelly and Ryan. His debut at the show coincided with a pact Ripa had made with friends to stop drinking for a month. “Ryan likes to blame himself for me stopping drinking, he’s like, ‘I got here and you stopped drinking.’ It really was not that,” Ripa told People.

“I did a sober month—all my girlfriends did it, we all did it together—and I just never went back to it,” she continued.

“It wasn’t even really a thought process. It felt great, I felt like I looked great, I felt like I didn’t feel hungover. Not that I was a heavy drinker—I wasn’t someone who got drunk—but even like two glasses of wine at a girl’s night out dinner; I would feel it the next morning.”

RELATED: Kelly Ripa Shares The Unexpected Challenges And Joys Of Being An Empty Nester With Husband Mark Consuelos

Ripa concluded, “I just didn’t really feel the need or desire to go back to it. It wasn’t really a choice or a thought, it was just, ‘Yeah, I guess I don’t drink anymore.’”

Quitting drinking might have been easy for the talk show host, but she did reveal the habit she had a hard time kicking: smoking.

The Habit Ripa Had A Hard Time Giving Up

“Quitting smoking I really had to think about,” Ripa shared. “I was like: ‘Smoking leads to cancer and it will kill you.’ It was a thing I had to tell myself. And I was like, ‘It gives you wrinkles.’ And that was the thing that was really terrifying. But you don’t want to die early, needlessly, over cigarettes. Over something you don’t even like that much anyway. But drinking was very easy. I didn’t really think about it at all.”

Ripa also pointed out the difference between people’s reactions when they found out she stopped drinking versus when they found out she stopped smoking. The talk show host said she faced far fewer questions about why she quit smoking than why she quit drinking.

“I’m not comparing cigarettes to alcohol, but for me it was just like, I don’t do that anymore. I felt better so I just stopped,” Ripa shrugged.

It’s inspiring to see that what started as a month-long hiatus from alcohol developed into a lifestyle of health and happiness for Ripa!

Ben Affleck Finally Lands His Dream Job At Dunkin Donuts https://www.suggest.com/ben-affleck-finally-lands-dream-job-dunkin-donuts/2714764/ Sun, 15 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714764 Ben Affleck sitting in a chair on stage in a grey suit pumping his fist

Ben Affleck has a career that most people can only dream about, but it looks like he finally scored the job of his dreams! The actor, a longtime fan of Dunkin Donuts, was recently seen working the drive-through at one of the store’s Boston locations.

Ben Affleck’s Love Of Dunkin Donuts

Affleck has long been a fan and devoted patron of Dunkin Donuts. The coffee and donut store first opened in Massachusetts, and citizens of the state are fiercely devoted to the brand, and that includes the Boston native Affleck.

The actor is often seen going in and out of Dunkin locations across the country, and has frequently been photographed with Dunkin Donuts cups in his hands. He’s even spoken about how much he enjoys having a Dunkin location in Los Angeles, saying, “It’s amazing! I have Dunkin Donuts everyday.” Affleck clearly loves the franchise, and it looks like Dunkin is returning the love!

The Actor Was ‘Quick-Witted And Funny’ While Working

Affleck was recently seen working the drive-through at a Boston Dunkin Donuts, serving customers while wearing a Dunkin t-shirt, visor, and drive-thru headset. The people he served were actual Dunkin customers, who were shocked to see the Oscar-winner handing them their food and beverages.

One person said he handed them their money back and gave them their purchases free of charge. Another called him “quick-witted and funny” as he served her. Affleck also got to serve a very special someone—his wife Jennifer Lopez! The pair were also seen posing together inside the store.

A Possible Super Bowl Commercial?

So, did Affleck just decide to drop by his favorite coffee place and pick up a few shifts, or is something bigger in the works? Many have hypothesized that this was all being filmed for a commercial—a Super Bowl commercial, to be exact.

Super Bowl commercials are known for being star-studded affairs, full of some of the biggest celebrities in TV, movies, music, and the internet. A Dunkin commercial with longtime fan Affleck, plus Lopez, would be sure to go viral.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but all signs point to this being a commercial or ad campaign for the coffee and donut franchise. Fans can’t wait to see footage of how Affleck fares working the Dunkin drive-through!

The world was rocked when Jane Fonda announced she had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Thankfully, the actress soon announced she was in remission and recently gave fans an update on her health at a red carpet event.

Fonda Celebrates Remission: ‘I’m Lucky. I’m Blessed.’

Fonda announced her diagnosis in 2022 on Instagram, telling followers she felt thankful that she had “health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments” and that she was hopeful about her chances of beating it.

In December, the actress celebrated the news that she was in remission and could stop her chemotherapy treatments. Fonda discussed her health further at a screening for her upcoming movie 80 for Brady

When asked how she’s feeling these days, Fonda said she was feeling “great” and called her experience with cancer “an adventure.” She also talked about how lucky she was to receive the care she did.

“I got a chance to experience what hundreds of millions of other people in the world have experienced,” Fonda explained. “It wasn’t the first time I had cancer. And I got lucky. I had really, really good care. I’m lucky. I’m blessed.”

Her Plans Are To Re-Focus On Activism

So, what is Jane Fonda’s focus now that her health is back in order? Her ongoing work to combat climate change. “I care about the world and its creatures,” she shared. “I want to do all I can … I’m at an age when you think about what is going to happen when I am on my deathbed. You want to feel you have done your very best to face this crisis.”

Fonda also talked about 80 for Brady and what it was like to share the screen with football star Tom Brady. “He is the GOAT,” the actress gushed. “I was awestruck, to tell you the truth. I really was. My knees actually started to give away. That doesn’t happen too often…When anybody is as good as he is…you have to bow down and honor that…The best the world ever had, plus he is gorgeous.”

“He was very nice to us—kind, generous, humble. I don’t know how a man like that could be humble, but he seemed to be,” Fonda continued. She also showed some love to another sports star, saying, “My scene with [Rob] Gronkowski, that was fun. He was really funny.” Fans of Fonda are happy she is in remission and feeling better and can’t wait to see her act alongside Brady in her latest film!

This Romance Writer Is Back From The Dead After Faking Her Own Suicide, To The Outrage Of Fans https://www.suggest.com/susan-meachen-romance-writer-back-from-dead-faking-suicide-outrage-fans/2714244/ Fri, 13 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714244 Photo of a human skull sitting on an open book

These days, it seems like authors will do just about anything to get their books to sell, but one writer took things to a whole new level—the Great Beyond, to be exact.

Fans thought romance writer Susan Meachen was dead, but she recently returned to social media to explain why she faked her suicide. Understandably, this news was met with a less-than-favorable response.

Romance Author Fakes Death After Allegations Of Bullying

In 2020, a post allegedly written by Meachen’s daughter announced that the author had committed suicide following bullying and harrassment from the online book community. The allegations of harassment confused many writers and fans, who supported and loved Meachen’s books.

More posts, allegedly from Meachen’s daughter, came out, where she talked further about the bullying her mother had faced. She then announced that she would be publishing Meachen’s final book.

Fans and fellow authors bought the book, promoted it on their pages, and held fundraisers and auctions to combat bullying. For two years, everyone believed Meachen was dead—until she revealed it was all a lie.

Meachen Returns To Social Media: ‘Let The Fun Begin’

“I debated on how to do this a million times and still not sure if it’s right or not,” Meachen wrote in a Facebook post. She went on to say that her family members were the ones behind the suicide hoax and did it because she did attempt suicide.

“Returning to [social media] doesn’t mean much but I am in a good place now and I am hoping to write again,” she wrote. “Let the fun begin.”

The post quickly went viral, and the authors and readers who grieved the loss of Meachen were outraged at her use of the word “fun.”

Samantha A. Cole, a fellow author and online friend of Meachen, shared that she felt guilty she hadn’t done more for Meachen following the alleged suicide and was even personally harassed by people who claimed she was one of Meachen’s bullies.

“This tore the book community apart when everyone started pointing fingers at people who allegedly bullied her,” Cole said. “To have it end up being a hoax that was dragged out for almost two and a half years is a slap in the face to anyone who ever supported her.”

Meachen has not made any further comments on her “resurrection,” but her editor, Kasey Hill, has refuted claims that fans and friends donated money for funeral expenses.

Whether this truly was an attempt by Meachen’s family to remove her from a toxic social media environment, or just a way to sell more books, Meachen’s return from the dead has rocked the literature world—and not in a good way.

If You Missed It: ‘The View’ Paid An Amazing Tribute To Barbara Walters And It Left Us In Tears https://www.suggest.com/if-you-missed-it-the-view-paid-an-amazing-tribute-to-barbara-walters-and-it-left-us-in-tears/2714235/ Fri, 13 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714235 Barbara Walters smiles in off-white dress against gray backdrop

The View returned for their first episode of 2023 and viewers were touched by the sweet tribute the talk show made to the late Barbara Walters, who passed away at the end of 2022 at the age of 93.

Current And Former Panelists Remember Walters

Walters was the brains behind The View. The legendary reporter launched the talk show in 1997 and built it into the daytime-TV mainstay it is today. She left the show in 2014 but clearly remained a favorite among the rest of the co-hosts.

The current panel—Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin—shared their memories of Walters on the first episode of 2023 before welcoming past hosts to talk about the iconic reporter.

Star Jones, Meredith Viera, and Debbie Matenopoulos were part of the inaugural panel of The View alongside Walters, and all three shared stories about their time with her on the show. Jones called her “the best gossiper” she’d ever met, while Matenopoulos said they shared a “mother-daughter” relationship.

“She was tough on me, but I appreciated it, because I learned everything from her. She single-handedly changed my life,” Matenopoulos shared. “Truly, all my life, all I wanted to do was make her proud.”

Lisa Ling: ‘She Thought Of Us As Her Kids’

Other hosts shared the impact Walters had on their personal lives as well. Lisa Ling, who joined the show in 1999, revealed that Walters inspired her to start going to therapy.

“For her, I really do believe she thought of us as her kids, as her daughters,” she explained. “It was so important for her that we all do well and that we were all happy. She was so supportive.”

Another past host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, talked about how she and Walters frequently disagreed on the air, which strengthened their relationship.

“I think the reason why Barbara and I not only had that special relationship 10 years at The View but 10 years since, in such an enriched way, is because she put our relationship over the roles that we had,” she said.

The episode ended with a montage of video clips that showed some of Walters’ most memorable moments on the talk show. Walters will be missed by her friends, co-workers, and viewers all over the world, but her legacy as a journalist will live on for many years to come.
