Ken Jennings is arguably the most famous game show contestant in the world. He holds the record for most games won on Jeopardy!, and he’s won a wild amount of money on four other game shows. Additionally, Jennings lives a fairly frugal lifestyle, and he’s maintained a steady income even after acquiring his massive winnings. Yet, despite Jennings’ lucrative circumstances, some estimate his net worth to be only $4 million. Here’s why that just doesn’t sit right with us.

Jennings Won Over $4.5 Million On ‘Jeopardy!’

To fully understand Jennings’ net worth, we need to start with the show that made him famous. In 2004, Jennings made his first appearance on Jeopardy!. The former software engineer dominated for 74 consecutive games, taking home $2.52 million during that time—he currently holds the record for most money won in regular season play. However, his Jeopardy! career wouldn’t end there.

Jennings returned to the show later that year for the 2004 Ultimate Tournament of Champions. He ultimately lost to contestant Brad Rutter, taking home $500,000 for second place. Jennings and Rutter went on to compete against each other once again in 2011, this time battling against IBM’s Watson supercomputer. Jennings took victory over Rutter but wasn’t able to defeat Watson. He received $300,000 for second place and pledged to donate half of his winnings to charity.

Just four years later, Jennings returned to the Jeopardy! stage for the show’s Battle of the Decades tournament. Jennings once again finished second to Rutter, taking home $100,000. There’s just no keeping Jennings away from America’s favorite game show, though. In 2019, Jennings finished second in the Jeopardy! All-Star Games, winning another $100,000. Finally, in 2020, Jennings won the Greatest of All Time Jeopardy! tournament, earning a whopping $1 million.

Throughout his entire competitive Jeopardy! career, Jennings won a total of $4,522,700. His earnings are second only to Brad Rutter, who won $4,938,436 during his time on Jeopardy!.

He Has Earned Over $700,000 On Four Other Game Shows

Jennings didn’t isolate his game show aspirations to just Jeopardy!, though. In 2006, Jennings appeared on NBC’s 1 vs. 100, although he only earned about $700. In 2007, he competed on Grand Slam, taking home the grand prize of $100,000. The following year, he won $500,000 on Are You Smarter Than Fifth Grader?. Finally, Jennings appeared on Who Wants to be a Millionaire in 2014, winning another $100,000.

In total, Jennings won $700,000 from other game shows. Taking into consideration his Jeopardy! winnings, Jennings amassed more than $5.2 million in game show earnings during his competitive career, making him the highest-earning American game show contestant in history.

His Salary As ‘Jeopardy!’ Co-Host Is Harder To Determine

Of course, these days Jennings commands the Jeopardy! stage not as a champion but as its host. In July of 2022, Jennings was officially named as one of Alex Trebek’s successors, taking over the day-to-day hosting duties of standard broadcasts and tournaments.

As you might expect, salaries are a bit more confidential than widely-publicized game show earnings. It isn’t certain how much Jennings earns for each Jeopardy! episode. However, The Guardian reported in 2019 that Trebek made $10 million a year for hosting the show. The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that Dr. Oz earned $268,000 for his two-week guest hosting gig, all of which he reportedly donated to charity.

We’re certain Jennings doesn’t earn as much as Trebek, but we trust that he’s paid well for the position. Some sources report Jennings makes as much as $75,000 per episode. As there are about 230 Jeopardy! episodes every year and Jennings has been splitting hosting duties with Mayim Bialik, that rate would turn into about $8 million a year. However, that figure is impossible to verify, and it’s likely quite a bit less than that.

Anyone claiming to know exactly what Jennings is being paid is almost certainly lying as the matter is highly confidential. What is for certain though is that Jeopardy! is a ratings powerhouse, and Jennings will likely see his salary grow the longer he holds the position.

He’s A Published Author

If you were expecting Jennings to reserve his brilliant mind for game shows, you’d be mistaken! The trivia master has published multiple books expanding on his deep well of random knowledge. According to Jennings’ website, he actually kept his day job as a programmer all the way through his Jeopardy! streak. However, when he got his first book deal, he then decided that a change in career was in order.

In 2006, Jennings published his first book titled Brainiac: Adventures in the Curious, Competitive, Compulsive World of Trivia Buffs. The book journeys through both the evolution of trivia and Jennings’ own experiences as a competitor.

In 2008, Ken Jennings’s Trivia Almanac: 8,888 Questions in 365 Days—the single largest collection of trivia questions ever compiled. He dipped his toes into geography with his 2011 book Maphead and investigated the origins of old wives’ tales in his 2012 book Because I Said So!.

He published a series of informative kids books in 2014 called The Junior Genius Guides and turned his inquisitive eye on comedy in his most recent book, Planet Funny. Prior to landing his hosting gig on Jeopardy! Jennings considered himself a full-time freelance writer, and he has yet another book scheduled to hit shelves in June titled 100 Places to See After You Die: A Travel Guide to the Afterlife.

He’s Co-Hosted The ‘Omnibus’ Podcast Since September 2017

If idle hands are the devil’s playthings, then count Ken Jennings safe from corruption. In addition to hosting Jeopardy! pretty much full-time, the trivia  wiz also co-hosts a podcast titled Omnibus with his friend and fellow Seattleite John Roderick. For those unfamiliar with the term, omnibus refers to a volume containing several other novels or published works.

So, similar to the massive tomes it takes its name from, the Omnibus podcast aims to compile “an encyclopedic reference work of strange-but-true stories” to serve as a “time capsule for future generations,” per the project’s website.

The pair started the project in 2017, and they currently release two episodes a week. They also offer Patreon tiers ranging anywhere from $5 to $100 per month. Per their Patreon profile, the operation brings in $11,872 a month. Jennings could be earning as much as $5,936 from the podcast every month. Although, a good portion of that likely gets eaten up by production costs.

He Lives A Modest Lifestyle

Some might expect someone with Jennings’ wealth to live a high-roller lifestyle, but that assumption couldn’t be farther from the truth. The Seattle native has been a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His Mormon faith even led him to dedicate two years of his young adulthood working as a missionary in Madrid, Spain.

He regularly donates 10% of his income to the church, a practice known as “tithing,” and credits his faith with helping him stay grounded. According to Jennings, he didn’t even purchase a new car with his winnings as so many of us would. He told the Washington Post that he drove the same Toyota Corolla for years after Jeopardy! because it got him where it needed to go.

“I had this very kind of strong pioneer-era Western ethos of like, wealth is not just immoral, but it is a little bit unseemly,” Jennings told the publication. He wrote on his website that he doesn’t drink alcohol, although he garnered an extensive knowledge of spirits while studying for Jeopardy!.

He still lives in Seattle, sharing a home with his wife of 22 years, Mindy. They have two children, a son born in 2002 and a daughter born in 2006. Jennings will likely need to shell out a pretty penny for college educations, although we don’t see that making too big of a dent in his wealth.

We Think His Net Worth Is Likely Much Higher Than $4 Million

Ok, let’s recap. Jennings had more than $5 million in game show winnings—about $4 million once you shave off taxes. He has published nine books in total, which certainly made him more than a couple of bucks. He recently made another book deal, and he earns an easy few thousand a month from his podcast. All of that is before noting his Jeopardy! hosting gig, which likely earns him a few million dollars a year.

He once said that his most extravagant purchases post-Jeopardy! were his home in Seattle and a big-screen TV. He also notes on his website that most of the money went right into stocks, bonds, and real-estate. “I don’t want to be one of these lottery winners you see bankrupt on TV a few years later,” he wrote. If he invested wisely, and chances are that he did, he could have multiplied his wealth a few times over by now.

Yet, despite Jennings’ many, many money-making pursuits, sites like Celebrity Net Worth estimate Jennings’ net worth to be only $4 million. Now, we are no mathematicians, but that figure seems fishy at best. It looks like these sources are only really accounting for his game show winnings rather than all of his activities after that.
Unfortunately, we have no way of truly confirming our suspicions. Given Jennings’ modest lifestyle, he is one of the last public figures you’ll see flaunting his wealth. Although, those Jeopardy! paychecks are just going to keep stacking up. As it stands today, though, Jennings’ true net worth is between him, his family, and the IRS.

Viola Davis Is The Latest Member Of The EGOT Club, But The Actor Who Coined The Term Has Never Won Any Of The Four Prestigious Awards https://www.suggest.com/viola-davis-latest-member-egot-club-actor-coined-term-never-won-any-four-prestigious-awards/2723134/ Tue, 07 Feb 2023 13:48:08 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2723134 Viola Davis smiles in brown shimmery gown

It’s official: Viola Davis has officially achieved the most prestigious status in the entertainment world. Now that the celebrated actress has won a Grammy for the audiobook version of her memoir Finding Me, Davis has now achieved EGOT status.

The term “EGOT” stands for “Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony” and is meant to honor the talented few who’ve won at least one of each of the four major American entertainment awards in a competitive category. The star to most recently make the list before Davis was Jennifer Hudson.

EGOT status is often seen as the ultimate achievement for any American entertainer. However, the man who coined the term EGOT unfortunately never notched a single nomination for any of the major awards.

In 1984, Miami Vice actor Philip Michael Thomas first publicly used the term during an interview with ET.

“[In January], I put a plan in motion, which I call ‘EGOT,’” he told the outlet while on the set of the popular TV show. “And EGOT is ‘E’ for Emmy, ‘G’ for GRAMMY, ‘O’ for Oscar and ‘T’ for Tony. And I’m putting this on a five-year plan. I hope to win all of those in the next five years.”

It seemed like Thomas did his best to manifest the honor, even fashioning the acronym onto a gold pendant for him to wear while he chased his goal. In 1985, he followed up with ET, telling the publication that he had the Emmy in his sights as Miami Vice celebrated multiple nominations for its pilot episode.

He added that had a plan to secure the next three awards. He first anticipated a Grammy with his debut studio album Living the Book of My Life, but he wouldn’t stop there.

“The Oscar will come when I buy the rights to No Place To Be Somebody and do it as a film,” Thomas explained. “And the Tony will come when I produce the musical I wrote, which is called The Legend of Stagolee.”

Unfortunately, those five years passed for Thomas without receiving a single EGOT-eligible win or even nomination. However, Thomas indisputably left his mark on the entertainment world by coining the oft-used term. In fact, in a roundabout way, every EGOT winner owes the prestigious designation to Thomas himself.

Thomas’ story was eventually satirized on the Emmy-award winning show 30 Rock. During the series’ fourth season, Tracy Morgan’s semi-autobiographical character Tracy Jordan insisted he was taking on Thomas’ quest.

The character even purchased Thomas’ supposed “EGOT” necklace, setting the plan into motion. While the storyline was played for laughs on the show, it also helped solidify the term “EGOT” in the public’s consciousness.

It doesn’t look like Thomas gets much work these days with his last acting credit being in 2009. However, never say never! According to his IMDB page, he actually has multiple projects in pre-production, meaning Phillip could be planning a full-on come-back. As we saw with so many actors this year, all it takes is one good role to bring an entertainer’s career back to life!

Jill Biden Stole The Show In A Shimmering Gown On The Grammys Stage While Presenting Historic Award https://www.suggest.com/jill-biden-stole-show-shimmering-gown-grammys-stage-while-presenting-historic-award/2722901/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 20:52:37 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722901 Jill Biden smiles in closeup image against orange backdrop

For centuries, the first ladies of the United States have represented the pinnacle of style and poise. Current First Lady Jill Biden proved at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday that her legacy will be no different as she gave some of the night’s biggest stars a run for their money.

On Sunday, Dr. Jill Biden made a surprise appearance at the 65th Grammy Awards, cementing her as one of the few first ladies of the United States to ever present at a major awards show. The night was historic for multiple reasons as Biden became the first person to present the Grammys’ brand new competitive category, Best Song for Social Change.

As Dr. Biden announced, she was there to celebrate “a song that responds to the social issues of our time and has the potential for positive global impact.” That song was “Baraye,” a powerful ballad penned by Iranian singer-songwriter Shervin Hajpour in response to the alleged murder of Mahsa Amini.

Back in September, 22-year-old Amini was detained by Iran’s morality police for supposedly wearing her hijab improperly. Eyewitnesses alleged Amini was severely beaten by the police, contributing to growing unrest in Iran over compulsory hijab laws. Her death sparked massive global protests over the violence against Iranian women.

Inspired by Amini, Hajpour recorded “Baraye” (roughly translating to “because of”) which became the unofficial anthem of the protests. The singer was subsequently arrested for allegedly inciting violence acts against the Iranian government.

“Shervin was arrested but this song continues to resonate around the world with its powerful theme—women, life, freedom,” Dr. Biden said on Sunday, calling the song a “powerful and poetic call for freedom and women’s rights.”

While Dr. Biden was there for an important reason, she certainly did not forget the dress code. The first lady looked like a trophy herself in a dazzling off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta gown.

The long-sleeved dress was structured with gorgeous floral details, and the silver pattern put off a disco-ball-like shine, making it one of the more eye-grabbing looks of the night.

Dr. Biden wasn’t the only one to grace the Grammys stage in a silver ensemble. Harry Styles accepted his award for Album of the Year in a dazzling silver top before changing into a bold jumpsuit for his performance.

Lizzo accepted her award in a metallic silver ruched mini dress, and Beyonce became the most-awarded artist in Grammys history while wearing a shining silver and camel strapless gown.

So, while Dr. Biden looked timeless and elegant in her gown, she was also ridiculously on-trend. Honestly, Biden’s dress was one of the best looks of the night, and it certainly just served to highlight her important reason for attending. Not to mention, it just goes to show that glamour has absolutely no age!

Three Letters Cost One ‘Jeopardy!’ Competitor Their Entire Score In Nail-Biting Finish https://www.suggest.com/three-letters-cost-one-jeopardy-competitor-entire-score-nail-biting-finish/2722372/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722372 Ken Jennings looking happily surprised during a Final Jeopardy round

The Final Jeopardy round is the climax of America’s favorite game show. It’s arguably the most suspenseful and exciting moment of the show, and that’s because the stakes are so high. Monday’s Final Jeopardy question was a rare triple stumper, meaning no contestants correctly answered in time. However, one contestant arguably suffered a worse fate than her competitors, writing the correct answer just seconds too late.

On Monday, Vermont native Jake DeArruda returned for his second game, playing against attorney Sam Meehan and Ph.D. candidate Sara Howard. DeArruda had a generous lead against the others, however, everything was momentarily in doubt once Ken Jennings announced the Final Jeopardy clue.

“Originally relating to a story of suffering, this word now more commonly refers to strong emotion of any kind,” Jennings read.

Sometimes, Final Jeopardy clues refer to something so specific that if you don’t know it, you know that you don’t know it. However, this was one of those clues that was so vague that it seemed nearly applicable to multiple different answers.

For example, Meehan seemed confident in his guess, betting all of his winnings. However, while “drama” seems like it almost fits, it wasn’t the correct answer. DeArruda seemed less confident in his answer, betting only $800 on the word “mortal.” That also wasn’t the correct answer.

Similarly, Howard initially guessed “intense,” another word that seems semi-appropriate. However, that wasn’t Howard’s final answer. Just seconds before the clock ran out, Howard scratched through “intense” and wrote “pass.” She told Jennings that she was trying to write “passion,” but only managed to jot down the first four letters. She wagered $1,999, bringing her score down to just $1.

As Jennings revealed, if Howard had just a little more time, she would have guessed correctly. The answer was indeed “passion,” referring to that of Jesus Christ. Of course, today “passion” doesn’t necessarily mean suffering, but rather references any strong emotion.

It must be devastating to know you had the correct answer but were just seconds away from being able to share it. If it’s any consolation, she wouldn’t have been able to beat DeArruda anyways since his final score was $25,197 and she only had $2,000 to wager. The delivery dispatcher won three games and seemed to be barreling towards the Tournament of Champions roster before a surprise loss to Patti Palmer.

It wasn’t a complete loss for Howard, though. When all was said and done, she was still left with $1 while Meehan had $0, meaning she still took home second place and its $2,000 prize. Thankfully, the fluke didn’t affect her ranking, but we are certain it still stings. Here’s hoping she gets invited back for the 2023 Jeopardy! Second Chance Tournament!

Pamela Anderson Looks Straight From The Set Of ‘Baywatch’ At ‘Pamela, A Love Story’ Premiere https://www.suggest.com/pamela-anderson-looks-straight-from-set-baywatch-pamela-a-love-story-premiere/2722064/ Sun, 05 Feb 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2722064 Pamela Anderson smiling and laughing while sitting in a chair on stage in a white dress

What’s more classic than Pamela Anderson in red? When you think of Vivien Leigh, she’s in the green curtain gown; when you think of Marilyn Monroe, you picture the white halter dress; and when you think of Pamela Anderson, you see her in that red swimsuit.

Sure, Anderson had countless iconic looks. So many, in fact, that TikTok invented the “#PamCore” trend in appreciation of the ’90s sex symbol. However, on Monday, Anderson proved that red is still her color.

At the LA premiere of her new Netflix documentary, Pamela: A Love Story, Anderson paid tribute to her days as C.J. Parker with a glamorous crimson Naeem Khan gown. The dress featured a scooped neckline, much like her Baywatch swimsuit.

(Charley Gallay/Getty Images for Netflix)

She paired the floor-length piece with strappy red open-toed sandals. She wore her signature bleach-blonde locks in a perfect up-do that showed off her diamond drop earrings, and she kept her makeup look simple but glamorous.

In addition to feeding our ’90s nostalgia, Anderson also matched all of the Netflix logos at the premiere of her new film, which critics are already hailing as the ultimate tribute to the legendary public figure. The documentary dropped on the streaming service on January 31, the same day her memoir Love, Pamela hit shelves.

Both projects are incredibly raw and revealing portraits of a criminally unknown woman. Sure, everyone knows who Pamela Anderson is. They’ve seen a lot more of her physically than they have most other celebrities. However, like so many women in the public eye, Anderson never really had a voice.

Anderson even says in the film that it’s easy to watch Baywatch with the sound off. “It wasn’t actually about the storylines,” she quips. However, she insists she has good memories of her time on the show. “We were having a ball. We couldn’t even believe that we were working because we were on the beach every day getting paid for this.”

It wasn’t all blissful reminiscing, though. She also touched on some extremely painful moments of her life, including her experiences with sexual abuse and the infamous invasion of her and Tommy Lee’s home.

On that note, she was outspoken against the 2022 Hulu series Pam & Tommy which revisited the theft and subsequent distribution of her and Lee’s sex tape. So, with this documentary, Anderson is finally getting to set the record straight.

The Surprising Connection Between Grace Kelly And Princess Diana’s Iconic Philadelphia Eagles Jacket https://www.suggest.com/grace-kelly-princess-diana-surprising-connection-iconic-philadelphia-eagles-jacket/2721862/ Sat, 04 Feb 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721862 side by side photos of Grace Kelly and Princess Diana in her Eagles jacket

Princess Diana and Grace Kelly have left strikingly similar legacies. They were both quite young when they were thrusted into royal life. They were both beloved by their people, and, most bizarrely, both of their lives were cut short in tragic car accidents.

Yet, despite their many similarities, it only seems like they met once before Kelly’s death in 1982. According to taped recordings Diana provided for Andrew Morton’s biography Diana: Her True Story—In Her Own Words, she met Kelly at a musical recital at Goldsmiths’ Hall in 1981, shortly before marrying Charles.

“It was a horrendous occasion … At the time everything was all over the place. I remember that evening so well. I was terrified—nearly sick.” Diana remembered Kelly pulling her into a private conversation in the bathroom and telling her, “Don’t worry, it’ll only get worse.”

Kelly died the following year at just 52 years old. However, Diana carried an unexpected connection to Kelly for years in the form of her iconic Philadelphia Eagles jacket.

During a recent episode of Royally Obsessed, Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito took a dive into Diana’s unexpected connection to Kelly. Citing the Philadelphia Enquirer, the podcasters revealed that Princess Diana was gifted the iconic NFL merchandise after a chance encounter at Grace Kelly’s funeral.

Apparently, while paying her respects to the late Princess of Monaco, she met Philadelphia Eagles statistician Jack Edelstein, who was a longtime friend of Kelly’s brother. Edelstein later looked back on their fateful meeting, calling the princess a “very warm person, very sweet, very kind.”

Inquiring about his profession, Diana asked Edelstein what the Philadelphia Eagles’ team colors were. Of course, he informed her that the players wore green and silver. “Those are my favorite colors,” Diana apparently replied, and it stuck in his memory.

Inspired by their interaction, Edelstein convinced the team’s owner at the time, Leonard Tose, to put together a bag of Eagles merchandise as a gift to the princess. Of course, that included her custom Eagles bomber jacket.

Diana loved the gift and told Edelstein as much in a thank you letter. She proceeded to wear the letterman jacket on multiple occasions—for years it was one of her go-to casual pieces. A photo of her wearing it even graced the cover of People magazine.

It’s unknown where the jacket ended up after Diana’s death in 1997, but it’s most likely in one of her sons’ possessions. The jacket was a powerful symbol of Diana’s individuality, and it’s still one of her most memorable pieces of clothing to this day. Not to mention, given its connection to Grace Kelly, it’s a piece of royal history!

Curious Who The Masked Celeb Is In The Downy Commercials? We Have Some Ideas On Their Identity https://www.suggest.com/curious-who-masked-celeb-is-in-downy-commercials-we-have-some-ideas-on-identity/2721671/ Sat, 04 Feb 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721671 screenshot of a man with a blue hoodie draped over his head from a Downy commercial

Does Downy Unstoppables really keep clothes fresh for 12 weeks? Well, the company has recruited a mystery celebrity to put the product to the test.

Back in December, Downy Unstoppables began premiering a series of commercials featuring an unidentified celebrity. Throughout each 30-second ad, the anonymous celebrity wears a blue sweatshirt over his face, constantly sniffing the material to put the laundry product to the test. The commercials will build up to a 30-second Super Bowl commercial where the celebrity will reveal his face.

Downy Unstoppables’ First Official Super Bowl Ad

According to Marketing Dive, Downy Unstoppables has indeed purchased a 30-second ad spot for the Super Bowl LVII on Fox. This is a huge move for Downy’s parent company, Procter & Gamble, which hasn’t advertised during the Super Bowl in more than a decade.

Back in 2012, Downy Unstoppables premiered its commercial with Amy Sedaris and “Mean” Joe Greene of the Pittsburgh Stealers during the Super Bowl pregame. However, this is the first time the brand will advertise during the game itself.

The first commercial premiered on December 12 and was titled, “I’m Not Doing It Yet.” The short ad is just the first of many in the two-month long ad campaign titled “Believe.” They each follow a similar format in which the anonymous celebrity professes his skepticism over the product’s effectiveness.

“Downy Unstoppables wants to use my face for their Super Bowl ad, but I haven’t agreed yet, because I don’t believe it keeps your clothes fresh for over 12 weeks,” the masked celebrity begins the first advertisement. “So, I’m going to sniff this thing until the Super Bowl to see if it’s true. But until then, I’m totally hiding my identity.”

The Ads Apparently Contain Easter Eggs

There have been five commercials so far, and, according to a spokesperson for the company, they each contain hints and easter eggs regarding the celebrity’s identity. That could refer to the script, the various guest characters, or the many props around the laundry room set.

Sitting on the shelf behind the masked celebrity are some books, trophies, figurines, a photo, and two drumsticks sticking out of a jar. We’ve parsed through the videos and haven’t been able to decode all the cryptic items—that’s if they’re easter eggs at all!

Meanwhile, viewers have shared their guesses in the YouTube comment sections. Some heard the celebrity’s deep voice and immediately guessed comedian Rob Riggle. Others are certain it’s Righteous Gemstones actor Danny McBride underneath the blue sweatshirt.

We aren’t confident enough to cast our votes just yet, but we’ll certainly be tuning into the big reveal on February 12! In the meantime, we’ll be re-watching these commercials on the regular to see what hints we’re missing. At this point, your guess is as good as ours!

How Much It Costs To Use The ‘Ghostbusters’ Song In A Show Is Mind Boggling https://www.suggest.com/how-much-it-costs-to-use-ghostbusters-song-in-show-is-mind-boggling/2721326/ Fri, 03 Feb 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721326 screenshot of the Ghostbusters walking up the courtyard of the Empire State Building in uniform

Have you ever wondered just how much copyrighted music costs TV and film productions? It’s a huge expense to be sure. However, it turns out that the price for the 1984 hit song “Ghostbusters” blows even some of the most recognizable tracks out of the water.

On a recent episode of The Always Sunny Podcast, Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton looked back on one of the most iconic episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: “The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis.” As the actors tell it, that particular episode included the major expense of licensing the “Ghostbusters” theme song for the final joke. The song first quietly plays on the radio of a van full of gasoline that the gang is driving then blares over the credits after said van explodes.

“This is the episode where we spent the most amount of money ever on a song,” McElhenney remembered. The actors, who also serve as writers and executive producers on the show, recall the “Ghostbusters” theme costing them around $70,000 to $80,000.

“We hadn’t paid more than $20,000 for a song, including with Michael Jackson songs,” McElhenney said of the expense. “We got The Doors, The Doors didn’t even cost that much,” Howerton noted.

According to McElhenney, around 2008 when the episode premiered, producers were considering reviving the Ghostbusters franchise and wanted to protect the intellectual property, hence the ridiculous price. He said that the movie didn’t even end up happening, but at least Ghostbusters: The Video Game came out the following year.

However, in the greater scheme of copyrighted music, this kind of deal isn’t unheard of. Artists set their own prices, and some simply don’t want movies and TV shows to infringe on their artistic vision. For example, Neil Young is notoriously picky about how productions use his music.

Artists usually delegate these matters to artistic rights management organizations like ASCAP, but the rights holders ultimately have the final say. You’d be surprised how many music-centered projects have been stalled or scrapped altogether because of music copyright issues.

Regardless of the price, McElhenney and Howerton insist they’re happy they included “Ghostbusters” in the episode. Howerton admitted he had his doubts at the time: “Yeah it’s funny, but it’s not $80,000 funny,” he said on the podcast. “Looking back now, I’m certainly glad we did it.”

McElhenney even says that his young son actually took an interest in the episode once he heard the “Ghostbusters” theme. “It’s transcended generations because of that choice,” McElhenney said of the episode. “It’s a hell of a song.”

We could teach an entire college course on why Kate Middleton’s style is so brilliant. The Princess of Wales is in a league of her own when it comes to fashion, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down in 2023. In fact, over the past few weeks, Middleton’s has been brightening up the dreary English winter months with some bold and daring color choices.

What makes these looks so genius is how she uses the colors. You’ll never see Middleton chase a trend. The ever-regal Princess of Wales sticks to classic styles beloved by the royal women that came before her. However, she has the amazing ability to elevate a typical nine-to-five outfit to something headline-worthy.

During a recent outing, Middleton’s outfit included a subtle nod to the trend that dominated the red carpet last year: Barbiecore.

What is Barbiecore, you ask? It’s the fashion movement that had us digging through our closets asking ourselves why in the world we don’t own hot pink stockings! Middleton just proved that this color does have its place in professional wear, and it’s truly just what this season needed.

Last week, the Princess of Wales and her husband visited the Windsor Foodshare, an organization that provides food and basic household cleaning items for local individuals and families in need.

During her visit, Middleton was the perfect embodiment of the Barbiecore trend in a bright pink iteration of her winter staple peacoat. The princess layered the berry-colored coat over a just as bright—but just as pink—turtleneck sweater.

Both the coat and sweater are from designer Hobb’s London. She actually wore both pieces before while visiting a local high school in 2021. We love a good royal re-wear!

Middleton matched the coat’s black buttons with long black trousers, providing the perfect contrast to the bright pink. She wore her hair down in loose waves and went light on both her makeup and accessories, letting the brilliant ensemble speak for itself.

The Princess of Wales has been going bold with her color choices in recent months, opting for solid colors instead of her usual floral and polka-dot printed ensembles. While Middleton never fails to turn heads no matter what she’s wearing, we certainly aren’t complaining about her new normal.

A Legal Battle Battle Is Brewing Over Lisa Marie Presley’s Will As Priscilla Presley Contends ‘Invalid Signature’ https://www.suggest.com/lisa-marie-presley-priscilla-presley-legal-battle-brewing-over-will-invalid-signature/2720995/ Thu, 02 Feb 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720995 Closeup of Priscilla Presley pushing back a strand of her hair

Now that Lisa Marie Presley has been laid to rest at Graceland, her surviving family and their counsel are left with the task of sorting out her estate. In an unfortunate turn of events, reports now claim that Priscilla Presley is contesting her daughter’s will in a bid to gain control of the trust.

Priscilla Presley Challenges 2016 Amendment To Daughter’s Will

The petition concerns a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will that removes Priscilla and her former business manager, Barry Siegel, as trustees, subsequently replacing them with her eldest children, Riley and Benjamin Keough.

However, since Benjamin died by suicide in 2020, Riley currently stands as the sole inheritor of her mother’s fortune—including the remaining inheritance from her legendary father, Elvis Presley.

Suggest previously reported that Graceland is being held in a trust benefiting all three of Lisa Marie’s daughters, including her 14-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper Lockwood.

Priscilla has now filed documents in the Los Angeles Superior Court challenging multiple aspects of said amendment. According to Elvis Presley’s ex-wife, Lisa Marie’s signature on the document “appears inconsistent with her usual and customary signature.”

In addition to the claim about the autograph, Priscilla also notes that her name was misspelled on the document. The motion goes on to claim that the amendment wasn’t notarized and was never delivered to Priscilla, apparently violating their 2010 trust arrangement.

Value Of Lisa Marie Presley’s Estate Currently Unclear

Priscilla hasn’t publicly commented on the development, and it’s unclear how the legal battle will play out from here. It’s been widely reported for years that Lisa Marie struggled financially.

She even sued Siegel for “recklessness and negligence” in his handling of her father’s inheritance, claiming her trust had dwindled from $100 million to just $14,000, via Classic Country. “Siegel repeatedly led Lisa to believe she was in ‘good shape’ with her finances,” the suit claimed.

However, Siegel counter-sued Lisa Marie for $800,000 in unpaid fees. Siegel publicly stated that Lisa Marie had “uncontrollable spending habits” and that she “squandered” her father’s fortune. At this time, it isn’t clear how valuable Lisa Marie’s estate really is—or how strong her mother’s claim is.

What we are certain of is that this is just the beginning, and we’ll certainly be watching closely from here as the legal battle unfolds.

One Change Ken Jennings Brought To ‘Jeopardy!’ After Taking Over For Alex Trebek Only Contestants Would Notice https://www.suggest.com/ken-jennings-alex-trebek-one-change-jeopardy-taking-over-only-contestants-notice/2721118/ Thu, 02 Feb 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721118 side by side close ups of Ken Jennings and Alex Trebek hosting Jeopardy!

Lifelong Jeopardy! fans have fully embraced Ken Jennings as Alex Trebek’s worthy successor, but that doesn’t mean the trivia champ doesn’t have his own unique hosting style. As a past competitor recently pointed out, there are subtle differences in how Jennings and Trebek command the Jeopardy! stage, especially when it comes to handling contestants’ anecdotes.

As regular Jeopardy! viewers will know, when the regular broadcast returns from its first commercial break, the host quickly interviews each contestant. It’s an opportunity for the players to share a short anecdote about themselves, giving audiences a better sense of who is actually competing.

These brief 30-second interviews are often a little bit awkward for the sheer fact that regular people aren’t used to talking about themselves in front of a national audience between intense trivia rounds. However, the show works to prepare contestants for the incredibly nerve-wracking experience.

In 2011, NPR peeled back the curtain on the Jeopardy! contestant interview process. According to the article, contestants are given a questionnaire to fill out. It usually involves various fun, personal, and thought-provoking prompts meant to facilitate a few of these familiar anecdotes.

Once the questionnaire has done its duty, the host is given cards for each contestant containing three different anecdotes. From there, it’s up to the host to choose which anecdote to ask about.

Since Ken Jennings took the helm, the interview portion has been pretty light-hearted if not a little bit stiff. This is because it seems like Jennings prefers to stick to the script and let contestants riff on the anecdotes they’ve already prepared—something we’re sure the players appreciate.

However, Alex Trebek was a little less predictable. During his more than 30 years on the show, Trebek interviewed thousands of contestants. As time went on, he got quite comfortable with going off-script. So comfortable, in fact, that he would sometimes choose to ignore the provided anecdotes entirely.

According to Jennifer Quail, who went on a 9-game win streak in 2019, she and the other contestants were warned that Trebek could go completely off-script and simply ask about whatever he found interesting in the moment. This undoubtedly contributed to the players’ anxieties, but show crew member Robert James told NPR in 2011 that Trebek would never leave the players hanging.

“People tell me that this is the scariest part—this chat thing!” James noted. “But the thing is, Alex is so good at his job, he will bail you out no matter what.”

There’s no doubt that Alex Trebek’s style elevated Jeopardy! from a simple trivia contest to prime-time entertainment, and few people in the game show world got to know that style better than Ken Jennings did. However, it’s clear that Jennings doesn’t need to be an exact copy of his predecessor to win over legions of Jeopardy! fans.

Linda Ronstadt Was Way Ahead Of Her Time Calling Out Rupert Murdoch’s BS 40 Years Ago https://www.suggest.com/linda-ronstadt-was-way-ahead-her-time-calling-out-rupert-murdochs-bs-years-ago/2721079/ Wed, 01 Feb 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2721079 1970s photo of Linda Ronstadt singing into a microphone on a darkened stage

It’s about time Gen Z gets acquainted with Linda Ronstadt! Ronstadt’s song “Long Long Time” looks like it could get the “Running Up That Hill” treatment since it appeared in Sunday’s episode of The Last of Us. However, in addition to possessing a massive, timeless discography, Ronstadt is a trailblazing icon for her public presence as well. Just watch her absolutely rip billionaire Rupert Murdoch to shreds in this 1983 interview.

Rupert Murdoch Was King Of The Tabloids

Today, the world knows Rupert Murdoch as one of the richest people on the planet. He’s the head of one of the largest media empires in the world, presiding over Fox News, The Times of London, The New York Post, and The Wall Street Journal. However, before he was the international media mogul that we know him as today, he was king of the tabloids.

Originally operating in his home country of Australia, Murdoch essentially invented the tabloid format that we all know and loathe today. The profession certainly made him a few enemies, including legendary musician Linda Ronstadt.

Before Murdoch renounced his Australian citizenship to launch a hostile takeover of some of America’s sleaziest news networks, Ronstadt was already publicly criticizing his work. In 1983, Ronstadt appeared on Australia’s Don Lane Show via satellite broadcast, and she was ready to give Australian journalists a piece of her mind.

“It’s amazing to me that people read stuff in People Magazine or The National Enquirer. Your press down there is really… I mean you gave us Rupert Murdoch! The most horrible man in the world,” Ronstadt said candidly. “Australia gave us Rupert Murdoch, thanks a lot you guys. Take him back, we don’t need him here.”

‘It’s Bad For Journalism’

By 1983, Ronstadt had certainly experienced her fair share of tabloid slander. She was the highest paid woman in rock, she was outspoken about political and social issues, and she had plenty of high-profile romances with the likes of Jim Carrey and George Lucas.

In other words, Ronstadt was one of the many celebrities with a target on her back. However, in that same interview, she pointed out that Murdoch’s signature style isn’t just damaging for the subjects, but for journalism as a whole.

“He’s very irresponsible, too,” Ronstadt went on. “You see these screaming headlines in his newspapers about politics or about a shooting or killing that are only meant to inflame terror and horror. It drives me crazy … It’s bad for journalism! It’s bad for the responsible journalists that are out there.”

It’s clear that Ronstadt was ahead of her time in more ways than one. Her genre-defying musical style made strides in the music industry, but her unapologetic outspokenness is refreshing even in today’s age.

‘Today’ Show Posted THAT Infamous Clip Of Katie Couric And Bryant Gumbel Learning What The Internet Is And It’s Still Just As Funny as Ever https://www.suggest.com/today-show-posted-infamous-clip-katie-couric-bryant-gumbel-learning-what-internet-is-its-still-as-funny-as-ever/2720799/ Tue, 31 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720799 screenshot of Katie Couric looking confused and Bryant Gumbel gesturing confusedly from a 1994 show

Today just reminded us that there was indeed a time before the internet, as bizarre as that may seem. On Thursday, the show’s official Instagram page posted a clip from a 1994 taping in which anchors Katie Couric, Bryant Gumbel, and Elizabeth Vargas discover the World Wide Web.

‘Can You Explain What Internet Is?’

The video starts with Gumbel asking about “that little mark with the ‘a’ and then the ring around it,” which Vargas tells him means “at.” Couric believed the symbol meant “about” or “around,” thinking “at” sounded ridiculous. After a spirited debate about what “@” really represents, Gumbel exasperatedly asks, “What is internet anyway?”

“Internet is that massive computer network, the one that’s becoming really big now,” an off-screen producer informs the anchors. “What do you mean? What, do you write to it like mail?” Gumbel asks, disbelieving.

No matter how it works, Couric insisted she had no interest. “I’m afraid that if I subscribe to something like Internet…I would get hooked and I would never spend time with my family,” Couric says in another clip from around that time.

“I feel like I’m so inundated with information all the time that I don’t want more,” she elaborates in another clip. “Don’t you ever feel like it’s just constant bombardment of information?”

However, Gumbel notes that the information aspect wouldn’t bother him as much as the idea of people having a line of constant communication with him. “I the thing that I resent most is… at least when you’re home if the phone rings you have the option of not answering it. On the internet, people can send you messages all the time people you don’t even want to hear from.”

1994 Wasn’t That Long Ago

While it’s easy to look back on the clip and laugh about how little the anchors knew of what was to come, their observations were shockingly poignant, even prophetic. All of their concerns turned out to be real problems for the digital age. Too often now, we’re lamenting how we spend too much time on screens. Mental health experts now warn us about the dangers of digital dependency.

It’s also shocking to think that, as recently as 1994, these weren’t concerns for us. We didn’t have to make a conscious effort to be present because we weren’t always dividing our attention between real and on-line life.

Finally, it just makes you wonder where we’ll be another 19 years from now. Will they be sharing videos taken in 2023 of our blissful ignorance to some other life-changing technology? Only time will tell. If this is any indicator, though, Today will continue to serve as the ultimate cultural time capsule.

Mozart Disliked A Performer So Much, He Wrote A Song To Humiliate Her Onstage https://www.suggest.com/mozart-adriana-ferrarese-del-bene-disliked-performer-wrote-song-humiliate-her-onstage/2720636/ Tue, 31 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720636 Engraving of composer Mozart in profile

Who knew Mozart had such a fiendish sense of humor? According to operatic legend, famed classical period composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart once wrote an entire song just to embarrass his prima donna. However, the joke may have been on the composer, as it’s still one of his most beloved arias to this day.

Adriana Ferrarese Del Bene Had An Impressive Range

Adriana Ferrarese del Bene was an Italian operatic soprano singer whose vocal abilities were heavily touted in the late 18th century. Notably, Ferrarese was an early performer of Mozart’s legendary opera Le nozze di Figaro, and the composer even rewrote two songs in the production to better suit her vocal range.

Per the archived blog Divas of Mozart’s Day, the publication Rapport von Wien once reported that Ferrarese had “in addition to an unbelievable high register a striking low register and connoisseurs of music claim that in living memory no such voice has sounded within Vienna’s walls.”

However, despite her obvious vocal prowess, others found her stage presence lackluster, per the Cambridge Opera Journal. According to Opera Omaha, Ferrarese had a tendency to throw back her head while singing high notes and tilt it forward during lower ones.

This habit certainly caught Mozart’s attention. By the time Mozart was writing his opera Così fan tutte, the composer had grown to dislike Ferrarese. So, in an apparent ploy to humiliate the prima donna, he wrote the showpiece aria “Come Scoglio.”

This song required repetitive leaps from low to high registers, forcing Ferrarese’s head to “bob like a chicken” as Robert Greenberg wrote in his book Great Masters – Mozart: His Life and Work.

‘Come Scoglio’ Is Beloved By Opera Buffs

Così fan tutte premiered for the first time on January 26, 1790. The comedic opera was about two sisters whose husbands decide to test their loyalty by dressing in disguises and trying to woo them.

Audiences enjoyed the opera at the time, but by the 19th century, its themes were considered far too taboo and scandalous. However, the opera saw a revival in the 20th century and companies now perform it regularly.

While Mozart may have harbored cruel intentions when writing the “Come Scoglio,” the song is considered the centerpiece of Così fan tutte, which remains one of Mozart’s most beloved operas and is still performed today.

This is because, while the song had the unfortunate effect of exposing Ferrarese’s performance quirk, it presumably put her widely-celebrated vocal range on full display. Today, it’s considered one of Mozart’s more difficult arias.

Esme Bianco Settles Suit Against Marilyn Manson; What Happened To The Other Lawsuits Against Him? https://www.suggest.com/esme-bianco-settles-suit-against-marilyn-manson-what-happened-other-lawsuits-against-him/2720383/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 18:20:44 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720383 side by side close ups of Esme Bianco smiling in a colorful blouse and Marilyn Manson looking unhappy in a grey coat

Actress and burlesque performer Esmé Bianco has settled her lawsuit against Marilyn Manson for an undisclosed amount, drawing one battle of the singer’s legal war to a close. However, Bianco is far from the only woman to file a civil suit against the controversial singer.

Since launching his career in the late ’80s, Manson—whose real name is Brian Hugh Warner—has been accused of advocating for violence and depravity through his over-the-top goth persona. However, his reputation reached new lows during the #MeToo movement of the late 2010s when multiple women accused him of sexual abuse. Here’s what we know about the subsequent lawsuits the singer has faced.

Esmé Bianco Settles Her Lawsuit Against Manson

In April 2021, Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco filed a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, musician Marilyn Manson, for alleged sexual assault, sexual battery, and trafficking. Thinking Manson would help “launch her career,” Bianco—who’s originally from the UK—moved to California in 2011 and began a relationship with him. She’s since alleged that she endured “constant abuse,” both physical and sexual during their time together.

Interestingly, the presiding judge ruled Bianco’s case admissible despite the described events occurring a decade ago, long past the statute of limitations. According to the judge, the lasting effects of Manson’s abuse on Bianco’s personal and professional lives landed the defendant’s alleged offense well within the legal time window.

Since the suit was filed, we’ve had little updates on the case. That is until January 24 when Howard King, Manson’s lawyer released the following statement to Rolling Stone: “Ms. Bianco has agreed to resolve her claims against Brian Warner and Marilyn Manson Records, Inc.”

Ashley Walters’ Suit Was Dismissed With Prejudice

In May of 2021, Manson’s former personal assistant Ashley Walters filed her own civil suit against her former employer. According to the suit, Manson created an extremely toxic workplace environment during the year she spent in his employ. Walters, who worked for Manson from 2010 to 2011, alleges she endured sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, interference with the exercise of civil rights in violation of the Bane Act, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

One year after Walters filed the suit, the presiding judge dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning she’s barred from refiling, per Billboard. The judge cited the statute of limitations, insisting that Walters failed to file within the proper time frame after she severed ties with Manson. Walters insists it isn’t that simple, though. According to the plaintiff, she feared retaliation from Manson if she spoke up.

Ashley Smithline’s Was Dismissed Without Prejudice

In June of 2021, model Ashley Morgan Smithline also filed a lawsuit against Manson. In the suit, she graphically described enduring nightmare-inducing abuse at the hands of Manson over the course of their two-year relationship. The singer has denied all of the allegations, insisting that he and Smithline dated for less than a week.

In late 2022, Smithline discharged her lawyer for unknown reasons. The presiding judge then advised her to find new counsel by December 5, but she either chose not to or was unable to do so. The judge subsequently dismissed her lawsuit without prejudice, meaning she can choose to refile at any time. It’s unclear why Smithline chose not to continue her legal battle, but, of course, Manson and his legal team insist it was because there was never a case to begin with.

“We thank and commend Ashley Smithline for dismissing her claims against Brian Warner without seeking or receiving anything in return,” Manson’s lawyer told Page Six. “Ms. Smithline has refused to be manipulated by others who are trying to pursue their own agendas against Mr. Warner. We wish her well and will continue to work to assure that a significant price will be paid by those who have tried to abuse our legal system.”

Jane Doe’s Suit Is Ongoing

In May of 2021, an anonymous woman filed a civil suit against Manson. According to the plaintiff, she dated the singer for years after meeting him at a pre-Grammy party in 2011. “Defendant lured plaintiff, a musician, into what was, at first, a consensual romantic relationship. A short time later, however, he raped Ms. Doe. He also subjected Ms. Doe to further degrading acts of sexual exploitation, manipulation, and psychological abuse,” the suit reads, via NBC News.

She describes Manson depriving her of food, subjecting her to violent outbursts, and even threatening to kill her. Her suit was initially dismissed for surpassing the statute of limitations and she was given 20 days to refile, which she did.

According to Doe, she repressed the traumatic memories and only rediscovered them after other women spoke up about Manson’s abuse. On the basis of “delayed discovery,” the suit was deemed admissible, per Billboard. The civil suit is still ongoing, and there have been very few updates since its 2021 filing.

Another Jane Doe Has Come Forward

In January 2023, Manson was served with a new lawsuit from an unnamed plaintiff who claims the musician sexually assaulted her multiple times between 1995 and 1999, starting just after the plaintiff turned 16 years old. The suit also includes Manson’s former record labels, Interscope Music and Nothing Records. Nothing was started by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, who has spoken out against Manson in the years since Manson was dropped from the label.

The accusations, to which Manson has not yet responded, include a litany of assaults against Jane Doe in addition to the claim that Manson threatened to kill her family if she ever said anything. This case has not seen the inside of a courtroom as yet and is in its very early stages, which is important to note.

Evan Rachel Wood Never Filed

Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood has arguably been Manson’s most outspoken accuser over the years. According to Wood, she began a relationship with Manson when she was just 18 years old. Manson was 37 at the time. They dated on-and-off for about four and a half years and even became engaged in 2010. They ended their relationship seven months later.

She’s since described being groomed, raped, physically abused, drugged, and much, much more while dating the singer. Wood, who was raised in the Jewish faith, even suffered relentless antisemitic attacks from Manson, which included being hit with a Nazi whip from the Holocaust.

According to Wood, she never filed a civil suit against Manson because, by the time she fully understood the abuse she endured, the statute of limitations had run out. Since going public with her story, she’s been an outspoken advocate for victims’ rights. She even detailed her journey in the HBO docu-series Phoenix Rising, which premiered in 2022 and included the stories of multiple other Manson accusers.

Per Rolling Stone, Marilyn Manson and his legal team have filed a defamation lawsuit against Wood for the series.

Former Fox News Employee Suing Network Over CEO’s Decades Of Sexual Harassment Thanks To New York Law https://www.suggest.com/former-fox-news-employee-suing-network-over-ceo-decades-sexual-harassment-new-york-law/2719913/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719913 photo of the Fox News channel logo on the side of its Manhattan office

Trouble is brewing for Fox News’ legal team as former employee Laura Luhn files a lawsuit against the network, former co-president Bill Shine, and parent company 21st Century Fox. Interestingly, Luhn’s lawsuit was only possible through New York’s Adult Survivors Act—a new state law lifting the statute of limitations on certain sexual misconduct cases.

In 2016, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes faced multiple allegations of various forms of sexual harassment. One of his accusers, Laura Luhn, shared her story with New York Magazine that year. In the interview, Luhn described enduring two decades of sexual abuse and what she called “psychological torture” by Ailes.

Ailes resigned in 2016, and, one year later, he died after sustaining a head injury in his Florida home. Now, more than five years later, Luhn is reviving the scandal in her quest to hold her former employers financially responsible for the trauma she endured.

“Roger Ailes used his position as the head of Fox News to trap Laura W. Luhn in a decades-long cycle of sexual abuse,” the suit reads, via The Hollywood Reporter. “To ensure her compliance and public silence, Ailes photographed and videotaped Luhn in compromising positions—blackmail material that he explicitly described as his ‘insurance policy’—and made clear to Luhn that any attempt to speak out or stop the abuse would result in severe personal humiliation and career ruin.”

When Luhn went public with her story in 2016, the statute of limitations had passed for her to seek legal retribution against Ailes. However, in 2022, the state of New York passed the ASA, allowing victims a one year window to file complaints for incidents that took place years or even decades ago. Part of the law also allows victims of workplace abuse to level suits against their employers.

In the suit, Luhn describes meeting Ailes in 1988 at President George H.W. Bush’s campaign headquarters. Ailes took Luhn into his employ just a few years later, and, by 1991, the cycle of abuse had begun. According to Luhn, Ailes enjoyed flaunting his power over her. He would control what she wore, call her horrid derogatory names, and would even videotape their encounters as blackmail.

Luhn didn’t raise alarm bells in the early days because she feared both the social and professional humiliation. Not to mention, her career flourished thanks to her twisted “understanding” with Ailes.

“Ailes left no room for doubt that he viewed these forced acts as a quid pro quo for Luhn’s promotions and career advancement at Fox News,” the filing reads. “At one point after promoting Luhn to Manager of Booking in June 2004, Ailes demanded, ‘Now, remember, you’re Doris Day. Go put your uniform on, get over to the DoubleTree, and thank me for this.’”

The lawsuit claims Luhn eventually suffered a “mental breakdown” from the stress, of which “Fox News was well aware,” the complaint alleges. “Ailes’s hatchet man, Defendant [Bill] Shine, took it upon himself to control Luhn’s personal life, manage her medical care, and ensure her public silence about the sexual abuse.”

Acting on the advice of her psychiatrist, Luhn penned a letter detailing the abuse she endured and sent it to the company’s general counsel. She didn’t seek her own legal counsel before sending the letter, and, as a result, she quickly reached a settlement with the company.

As compensation, Luhn received what amounted to twelve years of her current salary—$250,000—although Fox News allegedly withheld over 30% of that money for taxes as they would “for payment of wages or severance.”

Luhn is now suing Fox News and 21st Century Fox for negligence and unlawful discriminatory practices on the basis of sex. She’s also suing former co-president Shine for aiding and abetting said unlawful discriminatory practices. Although her legal team has yet to name a number, they will be seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Luhn’s attorney, Barbara Whiten Balliette of Reid Collins and Tsai, issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter defending their use of the ASA. “The abuse that Ms. Luhn suffered was some of the worst imaginable. People knew, but no one at Fox News stepped in to stop it. Her career and her life were destroyed. The Adult Survivors Act was created to redress wrongs exactly like these,” said Balliette.

Fox News Media responded to the outlet, stating: “This matter was settled years ago, dismissed in subsequent litigation and is meritless.”

What’s clear is that, as a result of the ASA, these are uncharted waters for even the most seasoned litigators. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out to see how this potentially precedent-setting case unfolds from here.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ’s Way Of Picking Categories Apparently Infuriated Some Fans https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-champ-troy-meyer-way-picking-categories-apparently-infuriated-some-fans/2719721/ Sat, 28 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719721 screenshot of Troy Meyer in a grey suit competing and winning during Final Jeopardy!

Who knew politeness was so unpopular in the Jeopardy! fandom? Contestant Troy Meyer has officially become eligible for the next Tournament of Champions, and most fans are ecstatic. Both his impressive gameplay and uncanny resemblance to comedian Bill Hader have made him a fan favorite from the start. However, it looks like some viewers aren’t a fan of the newest champ for one bizarre reason: He apparently says “please” too much.

Meyer has dominated the Jeopardy! stage for a week now, so fans are now well acquainted with his playstyle. One of his habits is that every time he selects a clue, he always ends with “please.” For example, “2-Words Science Terms, $800, please,” Meyer asked Ken Jennings during his second game.

It’s safe to say that he’s selected more than a few categories now, and fans have caught on to the quirk. However, instead of celebrating the Florida-based music executive for his good Southern manners, some fans find it extremely annoying.

On January 20, Meyer’s second day on the show, one fan took to Twitter, commenting on an official Jeopardy! post, “The dude says please way too much.”

However, this user wasn’t the only one irked by it. “I wish the contestants would quit saying please,” another fan tweeted. “It is so annoying to hear please 100 times.”

Another couldn’t express their irritation fast enough, posting a tweet riddled with typos in an infuriated frenzy. “Please stop saying please contestants for the next group PLEASE,” the disgruntled fan wrote.

This backlash is bizarre to say the least. Never have we seen such a minor (and polite!) player quirk turn into such a point of contention. Since joining the show, Meyer has been a delight with his easy smiles and genuine humility every time he’s won.

Not to mention, Meyer is far from the only contestant with his own personal style of selecting categories. Some contestants take their time requesting clues while others keep it short and sweet; it’s always been this way and it’s never really been an issue until now.
It just goes to show that people will always find something to complain about as long as they’re looking for it. We have to say, we certainly don’t mind Meyer saying “please.” Who knows? Maybe that’s the secret ingredient to his stellar gameplay. A little bit of politeness goes a long way, after all. So, until these naysayers can match his Jeopardy! stats, it’s probably best for everyone to keep their bitter and unhelpful criticisms to themselves—please.

King Charles’ Coronation Will Be Very Different From Queen Elizabeth’s, Starting With How Long It Will Be https://www.suggest.com/king-charles-coronation-very-different-from-queen-elizabeths-how-long-it-will-be/2719450/ Sat, 28 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719450 King Charles in a black suit and coat walking with Queen Consort Camilla in a tan coat

We’re just a few months out from King Charles’ coronation, and we’re now learning new details about the upcoming event. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the celebrations will commence on Saturday, May 6. According to recent reports, the first 21st century royal coronation is going to differ greatly from Queen Elizabeth’s historic 1953 coronation.

According to the Daily Mail, King Charles’ official coronation ceremony will only last a single hour. For comparison, Queen Elizabeth’s lasted over three. Apparently, this is because Charles has done away with many of the ancient rituals that characterized her majesty’s own coronation.

“The king has stripped back a lot of the coronation in recognition that the world has changed in the past 70 years,” an insider told the publication.

In fact, while previous coronations have followed strict methods of honoring the British throne, reports suggest the king will be making a conscious effort to be more inclusive during the event. Apparently, Charles plans for a “more religiously and culturally diverse” service. All of these details are in line with the king’s long-surmised intentions to modernize the monarchy.

This intent is also evident in Charles’ efforts to give citizens a more active role in the coronation. On January 21, Buckingham Palace announced that Windsor Castle will host a special Coronation Concert on Sunday, May 7 to be broadcasted by the BBC and BBC studios. Free tickets will also become available to the public as the date gets closer.

According to the palace’s statement, “the Coronation Concert will bring global music icons and contemporary stars together in celebration of the historic occasion.” This marks a big change from the modest coronation concert hosted by the monarchy in 1953 (per the University of Westminster Archive) and will certainly serve as a cultural touchstone for Charles’ reign.

Additionally, charitable organizations will play a large part in the coronation celebrations. On that same Sunday, communities across the UK will take place in the Coronation Big Lunch. Hosted by the Eden Project’s Big Lunch initiative—of which the queen consort has long been a patron—various volunteers will work to bring the royal celebrations straight to local communities.

Finally, on Monday, the crown will close the coronation weekend with a “Big Help Out” event. This day is meant to encourage citizens to volunteer for their community service or charitable cause of choice.

These updates serve as a great gauge for measuring the kind of reign King Charles has ahead of him. In his efforts to focus on community building instead of showcasing royal grandeur and opulence, it seems like Charles is chasing his long-suspected goal of slimming down the British monarchy.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Is Getting More Attention For Looking Like Bill Hader Than His Winning Record https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-champion-getting-more-attention-looking-like-bill-hader-than-winning-record/2719033/ Thu, 26 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719033 Bill Hader smiling in a blue suit

A new champion has entered the Jeopardy! ring. However, instead of celebrating the contestant’s impressive stats, it’s fair to say that fans have been a bit distracted by his appearance. As it turns out, the trivia wiz bears a striking resemblance to actor and comedian Bill Hader.

The contestant’s name is Troy Meyer, and he’s a music executive from Tampa, Florida. He stepped onto the Jeopardy! stage on January 19, taking home over $60,000 in his first two games and dominating in his third win. However, despite his stellar accuracy and lightning-fast gameplay, fans couldn’t stop talking about his resemblance to the Saturday Night Live alum.

One Jeopardy! fan tweeted that Meyer was giving them “taller, skinnier Bill Hader vibes.”

Another joked that the Barry creator “has been killing it” on the show this week.

One fan even joked that he couldn’t be certain that Meyer “isn’t a Bill Hader character.”

It isn’t all in looks, though. Fans have noticed that Meyer also shares some mannerisms with the award-winning actor and screenwriter. “Not only looks like him, but at times sounds like him,” one fan tweeted. Both men also seem to be incredibly polite to their peers.

That isn’t to say that fans aren’t also enjoying Meyer for his Jeopardy! skills. Given his impressive gameplay, fans are already speculating that he could be this season’s next Tournament of Champions contender. Time will only tell, but it’s clear that Meyer has already made an impression on fans.

While on the show, Meyer also shared an anecdote about a memorable interaction he had with Lady Gaga in his work as a music executive. According to Meyer, while backstage at a concert, Gaga stopped him in his tracks saying, “You! You have great style!”

As Meyer tells it, he was just wearing “a cardigan and shorts,” but something about the ensemble caught the popstar’s eye. “She noticed it, and I’ve been coasting on it ever since!” Meyer joked.

Hopefully, the contestant’s resemblance to Hader is a good omen. Of course, we’re instantly reminded of another Jeopardy! champion who bore a striking resemblance to a famous comedian. Fans also noticed that Professors’ Tournament winner Sam Buttrey looked quite a bit like legendary comedian Steve Martin.

Buttrey even earned a Twitter shout-out from the comedian after his big win. The fan-favorite contestant ended up becoming a finalist in the Tournament of Champions and is even slated to return for the upcoming Jeopardy Masters tournament. Hopefully, Troy Meyer has just as long a Jeopardy! career ahead of him!

TBT: Who Ashley Olsen And Dax Shepard Dated After Each Other Is Even More Surprising Than Their Relationship https://www.suggest.com/tbt-ashley-olsen-dax-shepard-who-dated-after-each-other-even-more-surprising-than-relationship/2719420/ Thu, 26 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719420 side by side close ups of Dax Shepard and Ashley Olsen in 2007

Last year, Dax Shepard shocked listeners on an episode of his Armchair Expert podcast by revealing that he once dated actress-turned-fashion mogul Ashley Olsen. This previously unconfirmed coupling apparently met at a party sometime around 2006.

Shepard spoke highly of Olsen, commending her for her business expertise, sense of humor, and taste in cars. However, this was a pairing clearly not meant to last. By 2007, both Shepard and Olsen had moved on with other people—and their rebound relationships are somehow even less expected.

Dax Shepard Dated Kate Hudson For A Few Months

Shepard has admitted that he wasn’t a fan of monogamy in the early 2000s, so his relationship history gets a little bit fuzzy around that time. His next confirmed relationship, though, was with Kate Hudson in 2007. While this coupling had been cloaked in mystery, Hudson actually appeared on Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in 2019, and they took a stroll down memory lane.

As Shepard tells it, he and Hudson met in Toby Maguire’s backyard and immediately hit it off, but they were in relationships with other people. About a year later, they met up for dinner—although they still weren’t looking for something romantic. However, as they were leaving the restaurant that night, they thought it would be funny to trick the paparazzi into thinking they were on a date.

“While we were there, we said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if we came out holding hands and I was your new boyfriend?’” Shepard recalled. “We were just pals.” However, in typical rom-com fashion, they weren’t able to deny their very real chemistry. The pair dated for a few months before ultimately realizing they had different priorities. Shepard credits Hudson with helping him realize he wanted to settle down and have kids.

Hudson, on the other hand, already had a son and had just finalized her divorce from Chris Robinson. According to the actress, she wasn’t looking to start all over again so soon. Thankfully, both Hudson and Shepard can look back on their time together fondly. Later that same year, Shepard met his wife Kristen Bell at a party and the rest was history.

Ashley Olsen Had Brief Fling With Lance Armstrong

It’s clear that, like Shepard, Olsen had no problem moving on from their short-lived romance. In 2007, Olsen made headlines for her rumored relationship with professional cyclist Lance Armstrong. According to a Page Six report from the time, Olsen and Armstrong were spotted getting cozy at a bar.

There weren’t many other credible sightings of the couple from the time. However, in 2014, an investigative tell-all about Armstrong later alleged that the then-36-year old father of three caught flack from his friends and co-workers for his fling with the 21-year-old fashion designer.

According to the book Cycle of Lies, Armstrong’s friend John Korioth told him, “Whoa, dude, bad idea. You’ve got to put a stop to this right now.” Apparently, Armstrong’s friends were worried about what the relationship would do to his public image. However, undeterred, Armstrong allegedly responded, “She’s 21 … F*ck you.”

It’s unclear when their fling fizzled out, but it couldn’t have been long after they got together. By 2008, Armstrong had moved on to his next high-profile romance with…wait for it…Kate Hudson! It just goes to show that, in Hollywood, everyone knows everyone.

Kate Middleton’s Gorgeous Gold Citrine Necklace Has A Remarkable, Time-Honored Message https://www.suggest.com/kate-middleton-gold-citrine-necklace-hidden-meaning/2718963/ Thu, 26 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718963 Kate Middleton wears citrine necklace at reception for England Wheelchair Rugby League Team

While her in-laws are dominating the news cycle from across the pond, Kate Middleton just debuted a new jewelry piece. As it turns out, the tiny gem packs a powerful message.

Last week, Middleton hosted a reception at Hampton Court Palace for England’s Wheelchair Rugby League team in honor of their recent World Cup victory against France. The Princess of Wales re-wore a flattering burgundy Roland Mouret suit for the occasion, but she paired it with a never-before-seen gold and citrine necklace.

The stunning necklace is all at once dainty and eye-catching. The yellow gold chain and setting serve to compliment the citrine quartz’s warm honey-like shine. This specific piece, which has been identified as Danielle Draper’s Gold Citrine Baby Treasure Necklace, retails for £825.00 ($1017.13) and is still available on the jeweler’s website.

For centuries, this jewel in particular has symbolized positivity, mental clarity, and prosperity. Citrine is also referred to as “the merchant’s stone” for its reputation as a bringer of good luck. Even now, some businesses have a tradition of keeping a citrine stone in the cash drawer or near the register for good fortune.

Knowing that citrine is valued for its powerful symbolic properties, it’s no wonder Middleton is a fan of the gemstone. As a royal figure singularly celebrated for her grace and poise, it makes sense that she would resonate with citrine’s message of positivity and optimism.

As far as we know, Middleton owns two other citrine jewelry pieces. The Princess of Wales was photographed wearing a stunning citrine ring in 2008, years before marrying into the royal family, and has been spotted wearing the same piece multiple times since. Middleton even wore the ring to the No Time To Die premiere back in 2021, as reported by Hello! Magazine.

In addition to her long-beloved ring, Middleton also owns a pair of Kiki McDonough citrine earrings. According to Kate Middleton Style Blog, the Princess of Wales has worn the earrings to more than 40 public engagements, making them one of her most-worn jewelry pieces to date.

Although Middleton has access to some of the rarest and most luxurious jewels in the world, she clearly adores this yellow quartz. Citrine is certainly a gorgeous stone, but it’s a fairly common one in the jewelry world. With that in mind, it’s safe to assume that Middleton values citrine for its symbolism just as much as for its aesthetic properties.

Why The Burial Garden At Graceland Is Controversial For Some Elvis Presley Fans https://www.suggest.com/elvis-presley-why-burial-garden-graceland-controversial-some-fans/2719271/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2719271 Photo of Elvis Presley's grave with lots of flowers and momentos showered over it

On Sunday, hundreds of friends and fans flooded the Graceland burial garden to honor the memory of Lisa Marie Presley. However, fans of the singer may not know that the burial grounds at Graceland have been the subject of various controversies and conspiracies ever since Presley was laid to rest there in 1977.

Why Elvis Presley Is Buried At Graceland

Few people know that Presley wasn’t originally buried at Graceland. Immediately after his death, the rock and roll legend was laid to rest near his mother in Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis.

However, just a few months later, graverobbers threatened to steal his coffin, prompting Presley’s father, Vernon, to exhume his body and rebury him in the meditation garden at Graceland.

Vernon also had Elvis’ mother, Gladys, moved to Graceland, creating a private family graveyard on the property. Today, the graves of the Presley family attract legions of tourists every year, serving as a place where fans can pay their respects to the famous family.

Why People Believe The King’s Grace Is Empty

Given the circumstances surrounding Presley’s burial, fans and conspiracy theorists have speculated that the King of Rock and Roll doesn’t actually rest at Graceland.

Of course, there are those who believe Presley faked his death in 1977, which would mean he couldn’t have been buried at the original gravesite at all. These theorists cling to alleged sightings of the legend, insisting that he never really died.

However, other theories actually suggest Presley and his family are resting in another private cemetery and the Graceland meditation garden is just for show. The primary piece of “evidence” for this conspiracy theory is in the headstones.

Gladys’ original headstone apparently had the Star of David engraved into the stone as a tribute to her Jewish heritage. However, her Graceland headstone does not.

Similarly, Elvis’ middle name is spelled “Aaron” on his headstone while it’s spelled “Aron” on his birth certificate. It’s these little inconsistencies that suggest the possibility that the mediation garden serves as just a memorial site rather than a cemetery.

Who Else Is Buried With Elvis?

Of course, this would suggest that the other Presley family members supposedly resting in the meditation garden are actually buried elsewhere as well.

In addition to Elvis and Gladys, Vernon and his mother, Minnie Mae Presley, were also laid to rest at Graceland. When Lisa Marie’s son Benjamin Keough died by suicide in 2020, he was the first person buried at Graceland in over 40 years.

Sadly, Lisa Marie followed her son less than three years later as the sixth and most recent Presley family member buried at Graceland.

As the public is still mourning Lisa Marie’s passing, we see why so many people feel the need to keep the Presley family alive through conspiracy theories.

The truth is that, whether it’s a symbolic memorial or a legitimate gravesite, Graceland is an important part of the Presley family history and is as good a place as any to pay tribute to their memories.

Prince Harry’s First Texts With Meghan Markle Had ‘Bizarre’ Connection With Princess Diana https://www.suggest.com/prince-harry-meghan-markle-princess-diana-first-texts-bizarre-connection/2718765/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718765 Meghan Markle (L) and Prince Harry sitting and smiling with their arms linked

It seems like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance truly was written in the stars. In Harry’s record-breaking memoir, Spare, he reveals a touching detail about his and Markle’s first interactions. According to the duke, he first started talking to his future wife on Princess Diana’s birthday.

The Sweet Way The Sussexes Met

In the book, Harry went into full detail about those early days of his and Markle’s relationship. Apparently, Harry saw an Instagram photo of a mutual friend and Markle. Intrigued, Harry asked the friend for the then-actress’ contact information.

Harry later realized that this first domino in a long line of them actually fell on July 1, 2016—what would have been his mother’s 55th birthday. Harry doesn’t come outright and say that it was a sign—but, come on, it was totally a sign.

“Eventually, we exchanged phone numbers, and mitigated the conversation over to text, going late into the night,” Harry wrote of the momentous day in Spare. The duke recalls “texting like a teenager” in his and Markle’s first conversations.

“It occurred to me how uncanny, how surreal, how bizarre, that this marathon conversation should have begun on July 1, 2016. My mother’s fifty-fifth birthday.”

As we know, these phone conversations eventually culminated in a real-life date. “We met for a drink, and then I think very quickly into that we said, ‘Well what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.’ ” Meghan has recalled, via People.

Things Moved Quickly For The Pair

Harry and Markle managed to keep their relationship a secret during the first few months. During their first interview with BBC, Harry revealed that, after only two dates, he invited Markle on a remote getaway in Botswana.

“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana … We camped out with each other under the stars, she came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” the duke explained. That November, Harry confirmed publicly that they were dating, and the rest is history.

However, Harry has talked about keeping his mother with him in his and Markle’s relationship. He actually designed Markle’s engagement ring to include gems from his mother’s personal jewelry. Then, of course, they named their daughter, Lilibet Diana, after the late Princess of Wales.

Earlier this month, Harry told People that his mother is his “guardian angel.” In recent years, the duke notes, he’s only grown closer to Diana. “The healing process has allowed me to get to a place where I now feel the presence of my mum more than ever before. She’s with me all the time.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar And Freddie Prinze Jr. Just Appeared On Red Carpet Together For The First Time Since 2007 https://www.suggest.com/sarah-michelle-gellar-freddie-prinze-jr-just-made-first-joint-red-carpet-appearance-fifteen-years/2718703/ Tue, 24 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718703 Freddie Prinze Jr. (L) and Sarah Michelle Gellar smiling together on red carpet

Since the early aughts, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have proven that acting couples really can go the distance. They are an anomaly as far as Hollywood marriages are concerned. Howard Stern memorably bet Prinze in 2002 that their marriage wouldn’t last 10 years. Thankfully, the radio host was wrong; last year, Gellar and Prinze celebrated 20 years of marriage.

Now, the couple is putting their love on display once again. On Thursday, Gellar and Prinze made their first red-carpet appearance as a couple in over 15 years. The event was in anticipation for Wolf Pack, a new Paramount+ series produced by and starring Gellar. The series is being touted as a descendant of Gellar’s iconic teen series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The Couple’s Scene-Stealing Ensembles

For the red carpet, Gellar donned an absolutely stunning mini dress. The piece was constructed with a sheer material overlayed with gorgeous floral details. She topped off the look with large, eye-grabbing earrings and a subtle-glam makeup look.

Prinze also brought his A-game to the red carpet. The She’s All That star went with an all-black ensemble, pairing a black top and trousers with a sleek bomber jacket. He also got the memo about accessorizing, accenting his look with a fedora and striped fingerless gloves.

Gellar and Prinze first met on the set of their 1997 film I Know What You Did Last Summer, but they didn’t start dating until 2000. In 2002, the couple co-starred in the live-action Scooby-Doo film as Fred and Daphne. Later that year, they tied the knot in an intimate Mexico wedding.

Gellar took a step back from acting in the early 2010s to focus on raising her and Prinze’s two children, Charlotte Grace and Rocky James. She recently made a triumphant return in the 2022 Netflix film Do Revenge and is back in full force with her new Paramount+ series.

Gellar And Prinze Jr.’s Marriage Is Stronger Than Ever

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gellar revealed that her daughter, Charlotte, wants to follow in her famous parents’ footsteps and join the acting business. However, the Cruel Intentions star insists she won’t let Charlotte start working until she graduates high school.

In the interview, she also revealed that, 20 years later, she and Prinze are still the picture of marital bliss. Prinze even gave a rare statement about his wife, praising his wife for her time on working on Buffy.

“She had to deal with a lot of bullsh*t on that show for all seven years it was on,” he told the publication. “The stuff they pressed upon her, without any credit or real salary, while she was often the only one doing 15-hour days… yet she was still able to get the message of that character out every single week and do it with pride and do it professionally.”

That isn’t to say that Gellar isn’t still proud of the show, though. She told the publication that her kids have seen Buffy and are big fans. It remains to be seen if they’ll be tuning into Wolf Pack, though. The first episode of the new series will be available to stream on January 26.

ABC Losing Emmy-Winning Reporter To CBS’ ’60 Minutes’ https://www.suggest.com/abc-losing-cecilia-vega-emmy-winning-reporter-to-cbs-60-minutes/2718839/ Tue, 24 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2718839 photo of the top of the Burbank ABC building against a blue sky

It looks like ABC is losing one of its star reporters to rival network CBS. Apparently, award-winning journalist Cecilia Vega will be saying goodbye to ABC after more than ten years and joining CBS’s 60 Minutes.

On Thursday, 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens broke the news. “Cecilia Vega is a sensational reporter and storyteller. I have admired her work for a long, long time and couldn’t be more excited to welcome her to 60 Minutes. Her new colleagues couldn’t agree more,” he said, per CBS News.

Vega issued a statement reading, “This is a dream come true. I am beyond honored to join the ranks of this legendary show and to work alongside the best reporters in journalism.”

On Thursday, Vega celebrated the big news on Instagram. “I am thinking of my grandparents today and everything they worked for. There’s no way they could have even dared to dream about what would come. And here we are. I am so proud to share the news that I am joining @60minutes as a correspondent,” Vega wrote. “I am forever grateful to @abcnews for giving me a front row seat to history. And thank YOU for all the love today. I am moved beyond words.”

Vega is an extremely seasoned reporter. In 2010, Vega won a Northern California Emmy Award for her work on local ABC news affiliate KGO-TV in San Francisco. The following year, she joined ABC as a Los Angeles-based correspondent. In her nearly 12 years with the network, Vega wore many hats.

Over the last decade, Vega has had a hand in reporting hundreds of landmark stories. She’s anchored several broadcasts from Good Morning America to World News Tonight. Since 2021, she’s served as ABC’s chief White House correspondent.

Notably, she covered Barack Obama’s second inauguration as well as the two succeeding presidential election cycles. Vega earned recognition for her global coverage, reporting on the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster and Pope Francis’ appointment by the papal conclave in 2013. She was also an essential journalist during the COVID-19 pandemic and played an integral role in covering the U.S.-Mexico border crisis on-the-ground in real-time.

According to CBS News, Vega has conducted “hundreds of high-profile interviews,” forever leaving her mark on the journalistic landscape. It’s clear that this development marks the end of an era for ABC and the beginning of one for 60 Minutes.
It seems that Vega is the latest in a slew of seasoned reporters to join CBS. In just the last year, the network has welcomed Robert Costa from The Washington Post and Natalie Morales from NBC News into its ranks. According to CBS News, Vega will officially make the move to 60 Minutes in the spring.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champion’s Passionate Response To Viewer Criticism Is An Important Memo For All Fans https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-champion-passionate-response-viewer-criticism-important-memo-all-fans/2717778/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717778 screenshot of Yogesh Raut competing on Jeopardy!

On Monday, January 16, Yogesh Raut’s 3-day win streak came to an end. The Illinois native competed admirably but ultimately lost to Katie Palumbo, a museum interpreter from New York. However, instead of sending the Raut off with well-wishes, some fans declared that they weren’t fond of the podcaster. Online, certain fans criticized Raut for appearing to be unsportsmanlike during his recent loss.

However, Raut isn’t taking the criticisms lying down. In a Facebook post that a fan re-posted to the Jeopardy! subreddit, Raut expresses his disappointment with how fans interpreted his behavior. First, he notes that some viewers thought he was too serious and asserts that he made multiple “deliberate attempts to have fun” and often earned big laughs from the audience doing so.

He also takes on people’s criticisms of his “not dressing formally enough.” As Raut explains, the Jeopardy! wardrobe department was responsible for choosing his clothes, and it was unfair to critique him personally for what he was wearing—which you can see below.

Then, Raut gets to the meat of his statement. “Let’s talk here about the criticisms of my ‘sportsmanship,'” Raut begins. “At the end of my first episode, I can very audibly be heard saying ‘Good game’ to the player at the podium next to me. I would have said the same thing to the other player, except the J! set makes it impossible to communicate with the person two podiums (podia?) over from you.”

Raut notes that he did the same thing at the end of his second game, but his audio was muted. He adds that still-existing COVID measures make it even harder for him to communicate with his competitors. Before COVID, Raut points out,  it was common for contestants to shake hands at the end of the game. Now, physical contact is heavily discouraged.

Finally, Raut addresses his final Jeopardy! game. According to Raut, just because he didn’t congratulate Palumbo on camera, people shouldn’t assume he didn’t give her his well-wishes off-camera. “[Jeopardy!] is shot in an assembly-line fashion, and contestants get separated and whisked away fairly quickly,” Raut notes before explaining that, before he was escorted out, he went up to Palumbo to congratulate her personally.

All of this is to say that Raut is urging fans not to judge contestants so quickly. The truth is, as audience members, we only witness a small portion of the contestants’ interactions. While we grow to care about so many of these people and root for them to win, we certainly don’t know them well enough to criticize them as people.

CNN Reportedly Trying To Hire Comedian As Host, Here Are The Names Being Mentioned https://www.suggest.com/cnn-reportedly-trying-hire-comedian-host-here-are-names-being-mentioned/2717770/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717770 2014 photo of the CNN sign outside the Atlanta studio building of the network

As Fox News continues to embrace its comedic side with late-night talk show Gutfeld!, CNN is reportedly looking to hire a comedian to helm a new late-night political comedy show on the network. This news comes as Chris Licht, a former executive producer at The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, approaches the one-year mark since taking over Jeff Zucker’s post as CNN’s chairman and CEO. According to The Hill, these are the names topping the network’s list of potential hosts to deal with the absence of Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon.

Jon Stewart

To any fan of political satire, Jon Stewart seems like an obvious choice to helm a politically-tinged comedy news show. That is for the sheer fact that Stewart hosted The Daily Show, Comedy Central’s premiere late-night satirical news show, for 16 years. During those years, Stewart helped shape the world of late-night political satire and earned multiple Peabody Awards.

His show also served as a launching pad for the careers of Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrell, and John Oliver, all of whom served as satirical correspondents. However, we doubt Stewart would find a deal with CNN attractive. Back in 2020, Stewart embraced the safety net of the streaming world by signing a multi-year deal with Apple TV+. He currently hosts the show The Problem with Jon Stewart.

Bill Maher

At the same time that Jon Stewart’s Daily Show was gaining momentum, Bill Maher was making headlines with his show Politically Incorrect. The award-winning program was far more divisive than the Daily Show, and was eventually canceled in 2002. However, Maher landed on his feet. In 2003, Maher was picked up by HBO and began his show Real Time with Bill Maher. Maher’s comedic style is characterized by his blunt, unforgiving social commentary.

Still, Maher doesn’t seem like a likely candidate for CNN’s new show. Real Time is very much still active, and the show will celebrate 20 years on-air next month.

Trevor Noah

Finally, The Hill notes that CNN could reach out to Trevor Noah, another former Daily Show host. This is an interesting suggestion seeing that Noah just left his position at Comedy Central back in December. At the time, Noah cited his desire for a better work-life balance, as well as the possibility of pursuing another stand-up tour.

For this reason, we don’t see the comedian rushing to CNN. With that being said, anything is possible. Considering that Noah is the only free agent among the suggested names, it seems like he could still be the most likely option.

Overall, we know very little about CNN’s new prospect. We’re sure that Stewart, Maher, and Noah are not the only names that the network is willing to consider. However, we’ll certainly be keeping our eyes peeled for any updates on CNN’s venture into comedy.

A True Nightmare: Sports Reporter Opens Up About Having A Miscarriage While On The Air https://www.suggest.com/lisa-guerrero-true-nightmare-sports-reporter-opens-up-about-having-miscarriage-while-on-air/2717389/ Sun, 22 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717389 Lisa Guerrero smiles in orange floral dress

In Lisa Guerrero’s new memoir, Warrior, the journalist reveals she suffered a miscarriage on live TV. For nearly 20 years, Guerrero has stayed quiet about the traumatic experience. Now, the acclaimed journalist is opening up about how the tumultuous period affected her personal life.

Suffice it to say, 2003 was not an easy year for Guerrero. At the time, the former LA Rams cheerleader was just getting settled into a dream job as a sideline reporter for Monday Night Football.

“I wanted to be the Barbara Walters of sports,” Guerrero recently told People. While it was a huge step for Guerrero’s career, it turned out to carry devastating consequences.

As Guerrero now reveals, late in the season, she suffered a miscarriage while on-air. At the time, MNF was pulling in a weekly audience of 40 million people, meaning Guerrero gritted her teeth and suffered through the agonizing experience in front of a national audience.

“I was dizzy and nauseated but reminded myself to stand up straight,” the reporter wrote in an exclusive excerpt shared with People. “The pain was excruciating. I heard myself mispronounce a player’s name and knew I’d hear about it later. As soon as I finished, I raced off to interview a coach. Then I headed to the bathroom. As I sat on the toilet, I couldn’t believe the blood pouring out of me.”

According to the journalist, she was somewhere between eight and twelve weeks into her pregnancy.

“It never occurred to me to tell anyone. It never occurred to me that maybe I should have gone to a hospital or, at the very least, sat out the rest of the game. The only thought that crossed my mind was that I could get through the rest of the game as long as I buttoned up my long winter coat. That way, no one would see the blood. It was as if I were on autopilot. Get back on the sideline.”

As Guerrero explained in her book, her miscarriage was just the climax of an arduous battle she’d been fighting that entire season. At the time, Guerrero was being pummeled by horrible, misogynistic taunting from various men in the media.

“I was trying to be Barbara Walters while all these radio sports-show guys were trying to be the next Howard Stern,” Guerrero explained to People. “They did it for sport—just eviscerating me constantly and talking about my breasts and sexual acts and how I probably was able to get all these big athletes to talk to me.”

In the days before social media, radio disc jockeys were the biggest trolls out there, and, in 2003, they had their sights set on Guerrero.

“There was an ugly misogyny running rampant through sports radio airwaves—and I was their perfect target,” she wrote. “To them, I was the worst. I was everything that was wrong with sports. I alone had set women back decades. They’d attack my clothes, hair (why was it so long?), even my nail polish (how dare I wear red—I must be a whore!).”

The backlash became so palpable, so unavoidable, that the network ended up letting Guerrero go after a single season. Because of the torment, Guerrero never felt comfortable telling anyone about the miscarriage.

“I was a shell of myself,” she told People. “I felt such shame and embarrassment that the last thing I was going to say is, ‘Oh, and by the way, I just had a miscarriage.’ Most of my best friends will learn about it by reading the book.”

While Guerrero describes a nightmarish situation, her feelings about the matter are all too familiar. Too often, women blame themselves after suffering a miscarriage. They’re often filled with shame and feel like they failed in some way. At the same time, society tells them that these matters shouldn’t effect their ability to function in day-to-day activities when they absolutely do.

Still, Guerrero insists she doesn’t blame anyone in particular for what happened. However, she does think that the stress contributed to her miscarriage. “I don’t blame one person for this. The miscarriage wasn’t because of [Guerrero’s boss], and it wasn’t because of one radio talk show host or one bad column. It was a culmination of the entire season of negativity and cruelty. It was really cruel.”

What she does want people to take from her story is that bullying has real, painful consequences. “Somebody is the target of that. Somebody feels that,” she told People. Guerrero’s memoir, Warrior: My Path to Being Brave, hits shelves on January 24, 2023.

Who Inherits Graceland? The Future Of The Iconic Home Of Elvis Presley https://www.suggest.com/who-inherits-graceland-future-elvis-presley-iconic-home/2716695/ Sat, 21 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716695 Elvis Presley stands in front of Graceland

On Thursday, January 12, the Presley family suffered yet another devastating loss. Now, Elvis Presley’s historic mansion, Graceland, will undergo a change in ownership. However, reports confirm that the estate will continue to be managed by the women of the legendary family.

A representative for Graceland has told People that, following Lisa Marie Presley’s tragic passing, the historic mansion is being held in a trust benefiting Lisa Marie’s three daughters, Riley, Harper, and Finley.

Lisa Marie Inherited Graceland At Nine Years Old

Lisa Marie and her first husband, Danny Keough, had two children during their marriage. Their daughter, Riley, is an accomplished actress who’s set to star in the upcoming Amazon Prime series Daisy Jones and the Six. Their son, Benjamin, died by suicide at just 27 years old. Lisa Marie also had twin daughters, Harper and Finley, with her ex-husband Michael Lockwood.

Now, Lisa Marie’s three daughters are the beneficiaries of one of the U.S.’ premier musical tourist destinations.

Similarly, when Elvis died in 1977, Lisa Marie inherited Graceland in a trust at just nine years old. Per Graceland’s official website, the trust automatically dissolved upon her 25th birthday, granting her full ownership of the property. However, Lisa Marie chose to form the Elvis Presley Trust to manage the property with her mother, Priscilla Presley, along with the National Bank of Commerce.

Lisa Marie Will Be Buried At Graceland

Lisa Marie passed away on January 12 after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest. Paramedics were able to regain a pulse before transporting her to the hospital where she later died.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley told People that evening. “She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

The 54-year-old was an accomplished musician, businesswoman, and mother. Reports have confirmed that Lisa Marie will be laid to rest at Graceland in a plot beside her son, Benjamin. Graceland’s cemetery is also the final resting place of Elvis, as well as his mother, his father, and his paternal grandmother.

On Monday, the official website of Graceland announced it will be holding a public memorial service for Lisa Marie on the Mansion’s front lawn on Sunday, January 22. Instead of flowers, Graceland has asked that guests donate to the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.

We Know A Lot More About The Upcoming ‘Jeopardy! Masters’ Tournament https://www.suggest.com/we-know-more-about-upcoming-jeopardy-masters-tournament/2717430/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717430 screenshot of Ken Jennings hosting Jeopardy! in a gray suit

Earlier this month, ABC announced the exciting news that it had yet another new Jeopardy! spin-off show in the works. Up until now, we only knew who would be competing, but we didn’t know the mechanics of this brand new tournament. On January 16, Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies gave us the inside scoop on Jeopardy Masters.

On Monday’s episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, Davies revealed that the new primetime Jeopardy! show will consist of 10 one-hour episodes hosted by the one and only Ken Jennings. According to Davies, his goal with Masters is to create Jeopardy!‘s very own annual Super Bowl-style event.

As producer Sarah Foss explained, each hour-long show will consist of “two half-hour games,” meaning we’ll see two different 3-player matchups each episode. “We’ve experimented with a few different formats since I’ve joined Jeopardy!… but we felt that the true test of our ‘Jeopardy Masters’ would be to repeatedly face each other.”

Davies continued: “ABC wanted 10 episodes, and they wanted 10 hours, and we figured out that over 10 hours, if we did two half-hour games back-to-back, which would give us 20 games, 20 games would be the perfect combination to have all six of our top players play each other in every combination.”

However, this won’t be two typical Jeopardy! games back-to-back. According to Davies, the game will follow a “league-based system,” meaning that with every win a player achieves, they’ll go up in the rankings. As Davies notes, wins are important here. The show will reportedly follow a “points-based system” rather than the traditional money count. The executive producer thinks this method “will truly unearth who is the Jeopardy master.”

That’s not the only news that Davies came to share, though. While appearing on the podcast, Davies also announced yet another new Jeopardy! tournament in the works. “Qualifying for Jeopardy Masters will be a combination of the TOC winner from next year and a new tournament, which we have not scheduled yet, but we are committing to verbally today, which is the JIT, the ‘Jeopardy Invitational Tournament,’ where we will be inviting back past champions, past great players, players from previous seasons.”

It seems like this new competition will, in future seasons, precede the Masters championship. “The winner of [the ‘Invitational Tournament’], and perhaps the second place finisher, will themselves qualify for Masters.” However, since this year’s Masters will likely kick off before the first Invitational, lower-ranking Masters competitors will get a second chance in the upcoming Invitational.

According to Davies, their goal is to expand the Jeopardy! post-season universe, building up the ultimate “Jeopardy! pyramid.” While all of these new shows are a bit hard to imagine right now, it’s clear that producers are working to completely transform Jeopardy! into the world’s premiere trivia competition.

Radio Host Blasts Jeremy Clarkson For Meghan Markle Remarks And Ties Comments To Toxic Misogyny Culture-Wide https://www.suggest.com/radio-host-blasts-jeremy-clarkson-for-meghan-markle-remarks-ties-comments-to-toxic-misogyny-culture-wide/2717400/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717400 side by side close ups of Jeremy Clarkson in a black suit and Meghan Markle in a white dress

In his memoir, Spare, Prince Harry embraced exposure, choosing to present his story on his own terms. Since his book’s release, the duke’s public image has never been more divisive. He’s drawn both praise and criticism for his candidness. However, Harry insists that his memoir is no different than his family’s alleged practice of briefing the British press on private family matters.

Now, it seems that the gloves are off for the British press. Jeremy Clarkson—a British broadcaster with a long history of pouring scorn on Meghan Markle—lashed out at Markle last month following the premiere of Harry & Meghan. Except this time, observers from all sides admitted that Clarkson finally went too far.

Jeremy Clarkson Says He ‘Hates’ Meghan Markle

In a column for The Sun, Clarkson wrote that he feels “rather sorry” for Prince Harry since he’s “just a glove puppet” of Markle’s. As far as Markle is concerned, though, Clarkson writes that he harbors a deep hatred for the duchess. “I hate her,” Clarkson writes. “Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon [the First Minister of Scotland] or Rose West [an infamous British serial killer]. I hate her on a cellular level.”

If that wasn’t bizarre enough, Clarkson goes on to describe a graphic recurring fantasy he has about Markle inspired by a Game of Thrones scene. “At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

Thankfully, no one was content with letting this one slide. The backlash was instant and overwhelming. Clarkson didn’t immediately address his comments. However, on Monday, a month after the Sun column was published, Clarkson posted a lengthy public apology to Instagram. He wrote that he “felt sick” and “was very angry” with himself after re-examining his words.

However, his statement has mostly been dismissed as a half-hearted, floundering attempt to salvage his reputation. Towards the end of his “apology,” Clarkson writes at length about how, contrary to what it may look like, he’s not a misogynist. “I’m just not sexist and I abhor violence against women,” he wrote. He also calls his lapse in judgment “inevitable,” which unfortunately cheapens his entire statement.

James O’Brien Calls Clarkson ‘Pathetic’

It’s clear that Jeremy Clarkson’s apology wasn’t the fix-all he was likely hoping it would be. Even British radio presenter James O’Brien was unimpressed by it. On his show, Leading Britain’s Conversation recently gave his own perspective on the controversy, pointing out that it is merely a symptom of a larger problem in the media today.

“All bets are off with Meghan Markle,” O’Brien observes. “There are lines you can’t cross, but they lifted those lines for Meghan Markle. This is not just about Jeremy Clarkson. It’s also about everyone who read his column and decided that there was absolutely no problem whatsoever with putting it in the newspaper.”

The truth is that Meghan Markle has become a lightning rod in the press for people’s hatred and prejudice. When Markle joined the royal family in 2018, she faced an uphill battle. She was a dramatic foil to the regal and rigid British royal family. Looking back, it seems impossible that the British press would ever have accepted Markle in the same way that it has now accepted a woman like Kate Middleton.

When Markle and Harry decided to leave their royal duties, their fates were sealed. In her life as a working royal, Markle enjoyed certain protections from the press at large. However, once it seemed like her bond with the senior royals was in question, it gave the media the freedom to express everything it was holding back from day one.

Still, people offered their criticisms in the name of the queen, the royals, and the UK as a whole. However, Clarkson did something different in his Sun column. With his repulsive comments, Clarkson removed the thin veil that other journalists have been hiding under.

First, he likened her to Nicola Sturgeon, although it isn’t immediately clear why he dislikes the Scottish politician. He also referred to the vivid scene from Game of Thrones of Cersei Lannister’s “walk of atonement,” likening Markle to a cruel and calculating fictional royal. Then, possibly most shockingly, Clarkson likened Markle to Rose West, a real-life serial killer that tortured and killed at least nine young women and girls.

Is there any similarity between these women other than their gender? It just isn’t subtle anymore; the cat is out of the bag. It’s now crystal clear that Markle’s cardinal sin is being a woman in a powerful position. To Jeremy Clarkson and his friends in the press, a powerful, opinionated woman may as well be a serial killer.

TBT: How Alcohol And Addiction Doomed The Relationship Between Martha Plimpton And River Phoenix https://www.suggest.com/martha-plimpton-river-phoenix-how-alcohol-addiction-doomed-relationship/2716882/ Thu, 19 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716882 Teenaged Martha Plimpton leaning on a boat's rail while teenaged River Phoenix hangs his arms over a rope and speaks to her

In 1986, River Phoenix and Martha Plimpton were the picture of young love. They were the coolest kids in Hollywood, having struck up a relationship at just 16 years old on the set of The Mosquito Coast. The co-stars were inseparable during their three years together. According to a 1994 Esquire article, Plimpton even lived with the Phoenix family for a spell while they were dating.

They memorably attended the 1989 Oscars together where Plimpton rocked a shaved head long before it was trendy. Unfortunately, Plimpton and Phoenix would part ways that same year. It was an open secret in Hollywood that their split was due to Phoenix’s increasing drug and alcohol use. Then, just four years later, Phoenix died of a drug overdose at age 23.

In 1994, Plimpton gave one statement about Phoenix’s passing. “He’s already being made into a martyr,” Plimpton told Esquire. “He’s become a metaphor for a fallen angel, a messiah. He wasn’t. He was just a boy, a very good-hearted boy who was very f*cked-up and had no idea how to implement his good intentions. I don’t want to be comforted by his death. I think it’s right that I’m angry about it, angry at the people who helped him stay sick, and angry at River.”

It’s unclear to what extent Phoenix was using drugs in the years before his passing. Most people in his life agree that he was sober in the weeks leading up to his death, making the tragedy all the more confusing. However, there’s a pretty steady consensus that Phoenix had been struggling with sporadic drug use and alcoholism for years.

“He really liked getting drunk and high,” Plimpton told the publication. “But he didn’t have a gauge for when to stop. When we split up, a lot of it was that I had learned that screaming, fighting, and begging wasn’t going to change him, that he had to change himself, and that he didn’t want to yet.”

Since then, Plimpton has had a successful acting career, appearing in various movies, TV shows, and stage plays. She’s managed to crawl out of the enormous shadow cast by her childhood role in The Goonies and her relationship with Phoenix.

She doesn’t speak publicly about her first love anymore. “I haven’t talked about it since then for a number of reasons. Chief among them is that if I did, that would be all anyone would ever say I had ever said about anything, ever,” she told Buzzfeed in 2014. She noted that she has a “full life” and doesn’t “need to repeat” herself. We can’t blame her—in death, Phoenix casts an even taller shadow.

As time goes on, River Phoenix’s tragic passing has become a cautionary tale of sorts. He was proof that not all drug addiction looks the same. Furthermore, his breakup with Plimpton also serves as a powerful reminder that drugs don’t only kill—they also have the power to end relationships and sever us from those we love the most.

Alec Baldwin, Armorer Charged For ‘Rust’ Death; Why Didn’t The Same Happen For Brandon Lee’s Shooting? https://www.suggest.com/alec-baldwin-armorer-charged-for-rust-death-why-didnt-same-happen-for-brandon-lee-shooting/2717365/ Thu, 19 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2717365 Alec Baldwin in a gray suit giving a speech at a podium on stage

Over a year after the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Rust movie set, the District Attorney of New Mexico has confirmed that producer Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will face criminal charges in connection to the case.

On Thursday, New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the events that took place on October 21, 2021.

The DA also confirmed that assistant director David Halls has signed a plea agreement for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon, the terms of which include “a suspended sentence and six months of probation.” At this time, no charges will be filed specifically holding anyone accountable for the non-fatal shooting of Rust director Joel Souza.

“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust film crew,” Carmack-Altwies said. “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

This revelation is the latest development in a year-long saga filled with lawsuits and public outrage over Hutchins’ death. It’s been a legal circus previously unmatched in the film world. However, that isn’t to say similar accidents haven’t occurred. In fact, the Rust shooting has drawn plenty of comparisons to the 1993 death of Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow.

Were Charges Filed In Brandon Lee’s Case?

As Carmack-Altwies’ words echo across the media, declaring that “everyone deserves justice,” we’re left wondering who was held accountable for Lee’s death? In the early ’90s, Brandon Lee’s star was rising. As the only son of kung-fu film phenom Bruce Lee, the industry had high hopes for the young actor. That was until 1993 when the 28-year-old actor died in a tragic on-set accident. While filming a scene involving a firearm, Lee was struck by a projectile, sustaining fatal injuries.

According to a 1993 lawsuit obtained by the LA Times, when crew members responsible for handling the prop gun ran out of dummy bullets, they fashioned their own out of live ammunition instead of waiting to buy them from a legitimate source.

These crew members apparently didn’t have the “proper training, proper equipment, and the required federal firearms license” to tamper with the firearm. Because of the shoddy operation, a bullet tip became lodged in the handgun’s barrel during test-firing. It was this debris that struck Lee at a distance of less than 20 feet.

Just like in the Rust shooting, the prop gun was not properly assessed before filming. However, unlike with the Rust shooting, no one ever faced criminal charges for Lee’s death.

Michael Massee Was Haunted By The Accident

There are certainly reasons for this. The first is that Alec Baldwin is a far less sympathetic figure than Michael Massee, the actor who pulled the trigger on the set of The Crow. With the advent of social media, it was easy for the public to channel its anger towards Baldwin. Additionally, as a producer, Baldwin arguably had a greater duty to maintain the actors’ safety on the film set than Massee did.

Furthermore, per an LA Times article from 1993, the actors had safely rehearsed the scene multiple times before the accident took place. As far as we know, the accident that resulted in Lee’s death was the only one of its kind on the set of The Crow. However, in the case of Rust, reports of misfires and unsafe working conditions had plagued the production in the days leading up to Hutchins’ death (per USA Today).

While he didn’t face criminal charges, Massee told Extra in 2005 that he was haunted by the accident. The actor didn’t work for a year, and it completely changed his perspective around stunt-work. “It wasn’t supposed to happen for a myriad of reasons,” Massee explained. “I don’t think you ever get over something like that.”

Per the LA Times, Lee’s mother, Linda Lee Cadwell, filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers alleged negligence that led to her son’s death. She subsequently settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

It truly is a sign of changing times that the criminal justice system has had such vastly different reactions to these tragic accidents. Hopefully, with the filing of these charges, productions will begin to routinely take the steps to keep from repeating these tragic accidents.

According to the DA of New Mexico, her office will file charges of involuntary manslaughter before the end of the month. The announcement also notes that a preliminary hearing will likely be scheduled within 60 days after the charges are filed.

‘Jeopardy!’ Game Was The First In 25 Years To Set This Record https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-game-was-first-in-25-years-set-record/2716098/ Wed, 18 Jan 2023 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716098 Ken Jennings smiling during Final Jeopardy

If you didn’t get a chance to see the January 12 episode of Jeopardy!, then you seriously missed out! As hardcore Jeopardy! fans later pointed out, Thursday’s competitors managed to correctly answer each of the show’s 61 clues.

Usually, there will be a few clues that manage to go over all three contestants’ heads. In the Jeopardy! world, we call these “triple-stumpers,” and they occur in nearly every game.

However, on Thursday, there wasn’t a single triple-stumper to be seen. On Thursday’s episode, contestants Yogesh Raut, Kyle Daly, and Kristina Mosley faced off in a game for the Jeopardy! record books.

The game show is split into three rounds. The first two, Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy, feature boards each consisting of 30 clues. Then, in Final Jeopardy, the contestants each attempt to answer one final clue. So, altogether, players are faced with a cumulative 61 clues.

According to J! Archive, the average number of correct responses in season 38 was about 50. So, it’s no small feat for contestants to knock each and every clue off of the board.

That’s not to say that there weren’t some incorrect answers. In fact, Yogesh Raut was the only one to answer the Final Jeopardy clue correctly. However, in Thursday’s game, every time a contestant gave a wrong answer, another was able to buzz in with the correct one.

It’s An Extremely Rare Occurrence

In response to a recap of the January 12 game, one fan pointed out how amazing the contestants’ performances truly were. “Correct me if I’m wrong but I do believe this is the first time in Jeopardy! History that all 61 clues have been answered correctly and that there were 0 triple stumpers,” one fan wrote.

While the fan was right to recognize how astounding the gameplay was, it certainly wasn’t the first. In response, another fan pointed out two other times contestants answered all 61 clues correctly.

The first one was a 1992 game won by Jerome Vered. The other was a 1993 game won by Mike Boyd. In that game, all three contestants even managed to correctly answer the Final Jeopardy round.

Of course, many more fans chimed in with other perfect 61-correct-answer games. However, one pointed out that this most recent one seems to be the first since this 1998 won by Chris Ward. It just goes to show that when a fan base is made up of die-hard trivia lovers, almost every day is record-setting!

Why ‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Are Upset Over Controversial ‘Jeopardy Masters’ Lineup https://www.suggest.com/why-jeopardy-fans-are-upset-over-controversial-jeopardy-masters-lineup/2716047/ Tue, 17 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2716047 screenshot of Ken Jennings smiling during Final Jeopardy

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? Jeopardy! recently announced its upcoming “Jeopardy Masters” tournament. Now, some fans are worried that the show is sacrificing quality in a desperate bid to recapture that “Tournament of Champions” magic.

On January 11, Deadline broke the news that ABC has ordered yet another new primetime Jeopardy! spin-off show. The show, which has yet to receive a release date, has been christened the Jeopardy Masters event and will bring back six very familiar faces.

It’s being widely reported that the show will feature the “six highest-ranked, current Jeopardy! contestants,” although its unclear what “ranking” this is referring to—it certainly isn’t the show’s Leaderboard of Legends. What we do know is that fan-favorite contestants Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, Andrew He, Sam Buttrey, and James Holzhauer will all be returning to the Jeopardy! stage.

Save for Holzhauer, these contestants just competed in the 2022 Tournament of Champions. Given the champions’ swift return to the show, fans are skeptical of this Jeopardy Masters lineup.

Fans Question ‘Jeopardy Masters’ Lineup

No one is disputing that each of these players deserves a spot in a show like this; however, fans have questioned the timing of their return. To many, it looks like the show is playing it safe by bringing back the most recent fan favorites.

“This is not AT ALL saying that the 6 contestants picked don’t deserve it or we won’t immensely enjoy watching them play. But we JUST saw 5 of them play (and 3 of them play each other 6x!),” one fan tweeted.

“The 2022 ToC was incredible and it seems like they are trying to recapture that magic with a remix. There’s a reason why reboots and sequels are so popular! We love the original and want more! But it’s a delicate balance and hope they will go back past S38 for future tourneys.”

The announcement is even more jarring when you realize how many great players the show passed up for the new tournament. Sam Kavanaugh, who won the 2021 Tournament of Champions, even expressed his disappointment at not receiving an invite.

“Well, seeing the news today that I am not invited to the Jeopardy Masters was a bit of a gut punch. Nothing is ever guaranteed so I wasn’t planning on it, but because every other ToC winner in history was invited to a subsequent tourney, I was planning *for* it,” the champion tweeted.

Kavanaugh went on to say that he will definitely be tuning in for the show, but the omission still stings.

The bright side is that, since Jeopardy Masters likely won’t be a one-time deal, we will certainly see a broader group of champions in future iterations. Here’s hoping we see great players like Kavanaugh return to the Jeopardy! stage soon!

Where Is Prince Harry And Prince William’s Nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, Today? https://www.suggest.com/tiggy-legge-bourke-prince-harry-prince-william-nanny-where-today/2715616/ Tue, 17 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715616 Prince Harry (L) and Tiggy Legge-Bourke in closeup image

While Prince Harry’s divisive memoir, Spare, has managed to attract readers from all walks of life, there are certain nuances that longtime followers of the royal family will appreciate immensely. For example, some readers will immediately recognize the name Tiggy Legge-Bourke while others will be seeing it for the very first time.

She Worked For The Royals For Six Years

For those who don’t know, Legge-Bourke was Prince William and Prince Harry’s nanny. She began working for King Charles—then the Prince of Wales—and Princess Diana after they announced their separation in 1993. While she was beloved by the young princes, Legge-Bourke became a major point of tension in Charles and Diana’s rapidly deteriorating union.

Harry admits as much in Spare, writing that Diana saw her as a “rival” not only for his and William’s affections but for Charles’ as well. Throughout her years of service to the royal family, she managed to incite a firestorm of controversy with her unconventional child-care style.

For six years, the British press prophesized her impending firing, but, per The Guardian, Harry and William’s fondness of Legge-Bourke kept her firmly employed.

Finally, in 1999, Legge-Bourke resigned from her position when she married security consultant Charles Pettifer, bringing over half a decade of media obsession to a close.

She Kept In Touch With Prince Harry

So, where is Legge-Bourke today? Spare digs up some shocking insights from her past. For example, she allegedly performed a “blooding” ceremony on a young Prince Harry, “tenderly” smearing rabbit blood onto his face, per The Daily Mail. However, we didn’t learn much about the former nanny’s current life.

Upon further research, we found that Tiggy Legge-Bourke stayed close to Prince Harry over the years. Per Hello!, Legge-Bourke showed up to support Harry when he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2006. As reported by the same publication, she attended Harry’s 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle.

According to People, Harry even named her as one of Archie’s godparents. As confirmed by ET, the duke hinted in Spare that his former nanny disapproved of his 2020 interview with Oprah. Going off of Harry’s word alone, it’s safe to assume she wouldn’t look kindly on his most recent activities either.

The BBC Issued Her A Formal Apology

In 2021, Legge-Bourke’s name made headlines once again in relation to Princess Diana’s infamous 1995 BBC Panorama interview. As reported by the BBC, a prior investigation had revealed that journalist Martin Bashir forged documents to coerce the princess into sitting for an interview.

Among those documents was a faux abortion “receipt” in Legge-Bourke’s name, leading Diana to believe the caretaker had become pregnant by Prince Charles. In 2022, BBC issued a formal apology to Legge-Bourke for Bashir’s actions and agreed to pay her an undisclosed amount in damages.

She Ran A Bed And Breakfast For Over 10 Years

Beyond her involvement with the royal family, we don’t know much about Legge-Bourke’s private life. After marrying Pettifer in 1999, it looks like the childcare professional settled into a relatively quiet life.

Sometime around 2009, Legge-Bourke began operating a bed and breakfast in Gliffaes, Wales called Ty’r Chanter. The establishment earned glowing reviews on Trip Advisor during its 11 years of operation. Unfortunately, it looks like Ty’r Chanter stopped hosting guests in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and has yet to re-open its doors.

For Tiggy Legge-Bourke, a woman who’s been relentlessly criticized in the press since the early ’90s, no news seems like good news. What’s clear is that she had a hand in shaping two of the most prominent figures in the public eye today.

‘We All Had Our Tuxedos Ready’: Colin Farrell Opens Up About ‘Alexander’ Disappointment And Failure https://www.suggest.com/colin-farrell-we-all-had-tuxedos-ready-opens-up-alexander-disappointment-failure/2714864/ Mon, 16 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714864 screenshot of Colin Farrell as Alexander the Great wearing a golden laurel wreath on his head and blood on his nose and lips

There’s no doubt that Colin Farrell has had a remarkable career. The actor has come a long way from his humble start on Irish TV and is expected to receive his first Oscar nomination this year for his film The Banshees of Inisherin. However, his 20-some-odd years in Hollywood haven’t been without missteps. During a recent edition of The Hollywood Reporter‘s “Actors Roundtable,” Farrell looked back at one of his biggest career disappointments.

Colin Farrell Warns ‘Expectation Is A Dangerous Thing’

Every awards season, The Hollywood Reporter wrangles some of the most buzzed-about people in the film industry for its “Roundtable” discussions. In its most recent “Actors Roundtable,” an interviewer picked the actors’ brains for their unique perspectives on their professions.

After noting that two of the present actors—Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan—recently returned to acting after taking fairly long hiatuses, the interviewer turned to Colin Farrell.

He asked the actor if there was ever a time that he considered taking a step back from acting, specifically referring to the 2004 box-office disaster Alexander. “Expectation is a dangerous thing,” Farrell begins. “When I say expectations, we all had our tuxedos ready. I’m not even joking…we were all like ‘Right lads, we’re off to the Oscars! This is a sure thing.'”

Farrell Recalls Feeling ‘So Much Shame’

Despite the film’s clear ambitions and Farrell’s expectations, Alexander managed to barely make back its $155 million budget. There certainly wasn’t any awards buzz. In fact, critics questioned why Farrell was cast in the role at all. “I felt so much shame,” Farrell remembers. “I found myself in a place where, with everyone I met, I wanted to say ‘Have you seen Alexander? If you have, I am really sorry.'”

According to the actor, he started experiencing a serious case of imposter syndrome. “After that, I did question. I went ‘I’m just sh*te at it…I’m just a crap actor, I’ve been found out.'” He notes having to reconnect with the curiosity he used to have with his profession before he could move forward.

Thankfully, Farrell managed to find his footing again. His next role was in the Academy Award-nominated film The New World, and he went on to win a Golden Globe for the film In Bruges. Now, as the actor rakes in the accolades for his critically-acclaimed film Banshees of Inisherin, the 2004 historical drama seems like a distant memory.

Dog The Bounty Hunter Weighs In On Lawsuit By Late Wife’s Daughters Over Charity In Beth Chapman’s Name https://www.suggest.com/dog-the-bounty-hunter-beth-chapman-weighs-in-lawsuit-late-wife-daughters-over-charity/2714957/ Sun, 15 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714957 Dog the Bounty Hunter (L) in leather jacket posing with Beth Chapman, who is wearing a white top against purple backdrop

Dog The Bounty Hunter has made a career of hunting down wrong-doers in front of a national audience. So, fans of the TV personality, legally known as Duane Chapman, may be surprised to find out he’s embroiled in a legal controversy of his own over his late wife’s estate. Here’s what we know about Chapman’s involvement in the ongoing controversy.

Beth Chapman’s Daughters File A Lawsuit

When Beth Chapman died in 2019, her estate, led by her friend and co-star Rainy Robinson, established a memorial fund in her name. Now, TMZ reports, her daughters, Bonnie Chapman and Cecily Barmore have filed a lawsuit against Robinson.

According to Bonnie and Cecily, instead of using the charity to honor their late mother, Robinson has been pocketing the funds for herself.

RELATED: Sofia Vergara’s Ex-Fiancé Wants To Stop Her From Testifying In Lawsuit Over Frozen Embryos

They also alleged she’s made false promises to transfer ownership to them and never actually intended to hand over the reins. In fact, Chapman’s daughters allege Robinson has been quietly working to dissolve the charity.

The suit references several social media posts where Robinson declared her intentions to turn over operations to Bonnie and Cecily. However, according to the suit, Robinson unexpectedly backed out after the women’s attorneys asked for a record of how she used the money.

Rainy Robinson And Dog The Bounty Hunter Respond

Instead of laying low, Robinson disputed Bonnie and Cecily’s claims directly to TMZ. According to Robinson, she’s been managing the memorial fund properly, even creating a scholarship and victim fund for the families of murder victims. She even claims that, contrary to their public claims, Bonnie and Cecily are the ones that distanced themselves from her.

Now that Bonnie and Cecily have allegedly declined to work with her personally, Robinson says she now plans to shut down the charity. In a surprising turn of events, Dog the Bounty Hunter has actually come to Robinson’s defense.

Duane Chapman, who is actually Bonnie’s biological father and Cecily’s former stepfather, claims Robinson hasn’t mismanaged his late wife’s memorial fund.

“This is a bogus claim. The memorial fund was approved by Beth’s estate, which I administrate. The lawsuit against the fund’s founder is nothing more than harassment,” the TV personality told TMZ.

At the moment, no public details have been able to shed much light on the situation. This is far from the first time that the Chapman clan has made headlines for intrafamily conflict. Since no one involved has had many reservations about speaking to the press, we’ll likely learn more in the coming months.

Cher’s Most Amazing (And Weirdest) Performances From Her Short-Lived TV Show In 1975 https://www.suggest.com/cher-most-amazing-weirdest-performances-from-short-lived-tv-show-1975/2715010/ Sun, 15 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715010 black and white photo of Cher and Elton John hugging circa 1975

Before there was YouTube, before there was MTV, there were variety shows. In the 1970s, variety shows were quintessential viewing for music lovers and often featured performances from the top artists of the time. At the time, Cher and her then-husband Sonny Bono were the clear king and queen of variety programs. However, when the couple separated in 1975, Cher began starring in her own variety show, aptly titled Cher.

The program only ran for two seasons, but it wasn’t for lack of popularity. During its run, Cher was the most-watched variety show and ranked 22nd among all other programs on TV at the time. It featured countless performances from now-legendary musicians with Cher usually participating. Here are some of the most bizarre, dazzling, and quintessentially ’70s performances from the iconic syndication.

David Bowie

If you want to see two legends at work, look no further than David Bowie’s iconic performance with Cher. The two powerhouses performed Bowie’s song “Young Americans.” During the six-minute performance, Cher and Bowie danced around the stage in nearly matching ensembles. Cher wore a massive red wig, nearly the same color as Bowie’s own hair. It’s a joy to look back at two legendary artists so in their element. If you can handle the level of star power, you’ll want to revisit this iconic performance.

The Osmonds

In possibly the most ’70s performance in existence, Cher performed a Stevie Wonder medley with family pop group The Osmonds. For the performance, The Osmonds donned matching purple, red, and white jumpsuits. Cher coordinated in her own ab-baring ensemble as well. This was truly peak ’70s fashion, right down to their matching hairstyles and eerily white-toothed smiles. For a performance that’s sure to take you back in time, you’ll want to give this one a re-watch!

The Jackson Five

Before Michael Jackson became the King of Pop, he performed with his family in the band The Jackson Five. In 1975, the group appeared on Cher for an energetic and pitch-perfect performance. Even back then, it was clear that Michael Jackson would go far. With his stellar voice and silk-smooth dance moves, it’s a delight to see Cher perform with the young star.

Elton John

It truly never gets old watching Elton John absolutely shred a piano solo. On the variety show, Cher and John performed an iconic rendition of “Bennie and the Jets.” The effortless duet was one for the ages. John gave a flawless performance while Cher comfortably riffed off of the icon. Aside from flawless vocals, you’re sure to become entranced by Cher’s glittery eye makeup.

Elton John And Bette Midler

Of course, John and Cher were bound to perform together again. However, this time they were joined by actress and singer Bette Midler. The trio performed a medley of familiar tunes on a dream-like set covered in balloons. John wore an absolutely massive top hat covered in miniature disco balls while Midler wore a chest-baring dress to match Cher’s sleek, barely-there gown. While it would be impossible to truly capture the ethereal look of this 1975 set, we’re officially advocating for the trio to recreate this forgotten performance.

Selma Blair Talks About The Simplest Things That Help Her Deal With MS https://www.suggest.com/selma-blair-talks-about-simplest-things-that-help-her-deal-with-ms/2714393/ Sat, 14 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714393 Selma Blair posing in a black dress holding a cane with a sly smile

Who doesn’t love Selma Blair? The early-aughts icon has undergone a major shift in the public eye since she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Now, the actress has re-emerged as a powerful advocate for those living with disabilities. In a new interview, Blair explains at how her diagnosis has evolved the way she operates in the world.

Selma Blair Explains How ‘DWTS’ Changed Her Life

Last autumn, Selma Blair inspired thousands of people by competing on Dancing with the Stars. The physically demanding competition would be a huge undertaking for anyone. So, it was no small feat for Blair, who openly talks about her life with MS. The actress gracefully bowed out of the competition after her fifth week after an MRI revealed that the rigorous training was taking its toll on her body.

Despite not finishing the competition, she was a winner in everyone’s eyes. Just last month, Blair accepted a People’s Choice Award for her time on the show. Audiences seemed to understand just how important it was for the world to see someone with a disability break these boundaries. However, in an interview for the cover of Self, Blair explains how important it was for her personally.

Back in August, Blair was in relatively good health. Her MS was in remission meaning it was no longer progressing. Yet, Blair confesses that she was struggling to even leave the house. In fact, she remembers it was starting to affect her son.

TRENDING: Al Roker Is Back! The Legend Makes His First Appearance On ‘Today’ Since Health Crisis

“He would tell his friends, ‘Oh, you can come over to my house. My mom’s not going to want to drive me because she’s weak,’” Blair tells the magazine. “And I thought, Oh, my god; this is exactly why I wanted to get better, so I wouldn’t be like this anymore.”

That was when she ran into her neighbor, DWTS trainer Sasha Farber. The dancer ended up writing Blair a heartfelt note encouraging her to join the show. After agreeing to a trial rehearsal, Blair fell in love with it. She recalls telling her manager, “I think I actually need this.”

Selma Blair Considers Returning To Acting

As Blair wrote in her memoir, it can be hard for those struggling with MS to get out of the house. According to Blair, it’s about “self-preservation,” adding, “These small things add up. In my bedroom, on the floor that I’m used to, I can dance.”

However, Blair ended up finding that she could dance outside of her house too. Now, she’s even considering making a return to acting. “It takes a lot of energy,” she says.

“I want to say, ‘Oh, it’s easy to hire me. I’m not a problem! But here’s my rider of things I’ll need, and they’re not just green M&Ms.’ It’s like, how do we make sure there’s a railing on everything? If there’s a railing, I can find a way to lift that leg correctly. But without it, I’m just lost, balance-wise.”

While she’s made huge strides not just for herself but for disabled people everywhere, there’s always another step to climb. Thankfully, Blair says it’s the knowledge that her actions help others that keeps her energized. “I don’t find the advocacy trying,” she notes. “I know it’s for other people more than myself, and it makes me feel better. It really does.”

Thankfully, Blair has no intention to stop pushing boundaries. However, what’s so inspiring is that she doesn’t do so at the expense of her health. Blair is creating space for disabled people everywhere by pushing her own limits without ever surpassing them. Here’s hoping we’ll get to see Blair grace the screen once again in the near future.

Lisa Marie Presley’s Death Is A Stark Reminder Of The Leading Cause Of Female Mortality In U.S. https://www.suggest.com/lisa-marie-presley-death-stark-reminder-leading-cause-female-mortality-us/2715942/ Sat, 14 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2715942 Lisa Marie Presley smiles in off-shoulder navy blue dress

Reports have confirmed that Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died of a heart attack on Thursday at just 54 years old.

According to TMZ, paramedics rushed to Presley’s home on Thursday after a housekeeper found her unresponsive. Emergency responders were able to regain a pulse before transporting her to the hospital where she later went into cardiac arrest.

Presley was an accomplished singer-songwriter and mother of four. Just two days prior to her death, Presley attended the Golden Globe Awards to support her friend Austin Butler. So, to say that her passing has come as a surprise is an understatement.

The tragedy is a cruel reminder that heart disease can affect anyone, no matter age or sex. It is important to note that Presley had been open about her struggles with opioid abuse, an issue that causes an increased risk of heart disease or cardiac arrest.

Addiction notwithstanding, Presley was already at an increased risk for heart disease given her genetic background. Her grandmother, the Presley matriarch, died of a heart attack at just 46 years old. The rock and roll legend himself died of cardiac arrest at just 42 years old.

Heart Disease Is The #1 Killer Of Women In The U.S.

According to Go Red For Women, an organization that advocates for women’s heart disease awareness, there is a dangerous misconception that it’s a “men’s disease.” According to the foundation, in the United States, heart disease kills more women than men every year. It’s also “more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.”

Per its 2018 statistics, the CDC ranks heart disease as the number one killer of women in the U.S., no matter their age, race, or background.

Thankfully, there are plenty of avenues women have to reduce their risk. The first thing women should do is get educated. Know your family history and understand the warning signs!

While we’re often taught that the tell-tale sign of a heart attack is extreme chest pain, women are actually more likely to experience a myriad of other symptoms like nausea, back pain, and shortness of breath.

The next step is to monitor yourself. The American Heart Association recommends getting your cholesterol and other risk factors assessed every four to six years as long as you’re deemed low-risk. That frequency greatly increases in accordance with your risk level.

The final and arguably most important step is to just take care of yourself. Cut out harmful habits like smoking and frequent drinking. Diet and exercise are crucial to your heart health as well. A healthy diet and frequent moderate to intense exercise can do wonders for reducing your risk of contracting heart disease.

While it’s tragic that it often takes someone’s death to re-assess our own health, we’re lucky that organizations like Go Red For Women provide the resources for women to greatly reduce their risk of heart disease!

Prince Harry Breaks Silence About Prince Andrew’s ‘Shameful Scandal’ In Light Of Security Conflict With Palace https://www.suggest.com/prince-harry-prince-andrew-breaks-silence-shameful-scandal-security-conflict-palace/2714357/ Sat, 14 Jan 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714357 Side by side image of Prince Harry (L) and Prince Andrew, both looking somber

Over the past few years, both Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have become royal pariahs for very different reasons. Yet, despite the disgraceful circumstances surrounding Andrew’s fall from grace, Prince Harry has stayed in line with his royal relatives by not commenting on the scandal. However, it seems like Harry is done ignoring the blemish Andrew has left on the royal institution.

Prince Andrew Has Faced Enormous Controversy

It seems like there’s no limit to what Prince Harry is now willing to speak about publicly. Despite being raised by one of the most private families in the world, the duke is now practicing a level of transparency previously unheard of for a member of the royal family.

In his memoir Spare, Harry is giving his account of all of his family’s highest and lowest points.Given his willingness to speak unflatteringly about those closest to him, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he had no reservations about discussing Prince Andrew.

Most will recall that Prince Andrew became steeped in controversy after Jeffrey Epstein was arrested for sex trafficking. Despite Andrew’s best efforts to bury his previous friendship with the convicted sex offender, his connection to Epstein was undeniable.

RELATED: Prince Harry Answers The Question Of Whether Or Not He’ll Attend King Charles’ Coronation

Flash forward a couple of years, and one of Epstein’s victims publicly alleged that Andrew sexually abused her when she was just 17. She filed a lawsuit against the royal, which was subsequently settled in early 2022.

While Andrew has never faced any criminal charges, his reputation has been ripped to shreds. He’s been dismissed from all public royal duties and no longer represents The Firm in any official capacity.

Prince Harry Speaks Out About His Uncle

It turns out that Harry isn’t trying to stick his nose into Andrew’s scandal. His bone to pick actually had to do with an ongoing battle with his family concerning royal security.

As readers may remember, Harry publicly expressed his disappointment that he and his family would not receive the usual royal security protections while visiting the UK.

In his new book, Harry says he never believed he would lose those protections—especially, the duke points out, after his mother, Princess Diana, died the way she did. However, Harry also mentions he never would have dreamed that he’d lose his security privileges before Prince Andrew.

“Also, not in the wake of my Uncle Andrew. Despite being embroiled in a shameful scandal, accused of sexually assaulting a young girl, no one had even suggested removing his security,” Harry wrote. “People have had plenty of reasons to complain about us, sex crimes weren’t one of them.”

Harry brings up an interesting double standard for the family. Unfortunately, the royals are unlikely to ever address his many, many claims from Spare. The controversial memoir hit shelves on January 10.

What Has Happened To Queen Elizabeth’s Beloved Corgis After Her Death? https://www.suggest.com/queen-elizabeth-what-happened-beloved-corgis-after-death/2714324/ Fri, 13 Jan 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714324 Queen Elizabeth leaning over in an armchair to pet a corgi with a wagging tail

Since Queen Elizabeth’s passing back in September, people have wondered how the family will deal with the inheritance of some of the queen’s most prized possessions. A large concern for royalists was the matter of her majesty’s wardrobe and jewel collection.

It’s no secret that Queen Elizabeth’s closet was legendary, so it’s understandable that this was a matter of great intrigue. However, those who knew what the queen held nearest and dearest to her heart were immediately concerned about her beloved pet corgis. So, let’s find out what’s happened to the royal pups!

Queen Elizabeth Owned Two Corgis When She Passed

One fascinating fact about Queen Elizabeth is that, since her childhood, she almost always owned a pet corgi. It’s speculated that the monarch owned more than 30 pet corgis throughout her lifetime. So, when her majesty passed away on September 8, 2022, she left behind two corgis: Muick and Sandy.

The two pups were still quite young as Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had just gifted them to the queen for her 95th birthday. So, it should come as no surprise that the Duke and Duchess of York have welcomed the pups back into their own home now that the queen can no longer care for them.

RELATED: Does Prince Harry See Camilla Parker Bowles As An ‘Evil Stepmother’? Here’s What He Says

A “source close to Prince Andrew” has informed the BBC, “The corgis will return to live at Royal Lodge with the duke and duchess. It was the duchess who found the puppies which were gifted to Her Majesty by the duke.” According to that same source, it’s only fitting that Ferguson is now caring for the queen’s dogs.

“The duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses, and even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty, by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting,” the insider explained.

Sarah Ferguson Has Adopted Muick And Sandy

Thankfully, it seems like Muick and Sandy are well taken care of. Back in October, Sarah Ferguson posted the most adorable photo of herself playing with the two pups in a field. “The presents that keep giving,” she captioned the post, indicating that these were the two corgis that she gifted to the queen just one year prior.

It’s comforting to know that Muick and Sandy have landed in a loving home. For those still mourning the queen, it’s also a comfort to know that she is finally reunited with her dozens of departed corgis.

Ronzoni Pasta Is Discontinuing A Childhood Staple And People Aren’t Happy About It https://www.suggest.com/ronzoni-pasta-is-discontinuing-childhood-staple-people-arent-happy/2714282/ Fri, 13 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714282 stock photo of Ronzoni pasta boxes on a grocery store shelf

Bad news for pasta lovers everywhere. In a recent social media post, Ronzoni announced it will be discontinuing its beloved pastina pasta. It’s safe to say that people aren’t happy about this development, and they haven’t been afraid to voice their disappointment.

Ronzoni Discontinues One Of Its Most Popular Pastas

For people all across the country, Ronzoni’s pastina noodles are a pantry staple. So, when the company announced that it will cease selling the tiny star-shaped noodles for the foreseeable future, people were understandably outraged.

Last week, the official Ronzoni Instagram account released a statement detailing the devastating news. “We hear you and greatly appreciate your love for Ronzoni Pastina. After extensive efforts, we regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued. This wasn’t a decision that we wanted to make,” the first slide of the post read.

The company went on to explain how its pastina supplier stopped producing the pasta, forcing the company to seek a new supplier. “We searched extensively for an alternative solution but were unable to identify a viable option to make pastina in the same beloved small shape, size and standards you have come to expect from Ronzoni.”

The company assured customers that it hasn’t given up its search, but it is unable to produce pastina at the present moment.

Fans Mourn Ronzoni Pastina

Immediately, fans rushed to the comment section to voice their disappointment. “I’m putting my last box in a glass case and framing it in my living room,” one commenter wrote. “Who’s the long term supplier? I just wanna talk,” wrote another.

TRENDING: A Provocative Dole Banana Commercial Once Used Pink Floyd Music In The ’70s And That’s Not The Weirdest Part Of It

Given the pasta’s tiny size and fun shape, pastina is a go-to for parents of young children. According to Ronzoni’s product description, pastina, Italian for “tiny dough,” was its smallest shape to date. “Pastina works best in light soups. It is often made in single servings for one of toddler’s first foods,” the description reads.

While Ronzoni is widely credited with popularizing pastina in North America, fans shouldn’t say goodbye to the dish just yet. The tiny pasta is actually a staple in Italy as well, and Ronzoni certainly hasn’t cornered the market.

Plenty of other brands sell their own version of pastina, also called seline. Of course, loyal Ronzoni customers may be able to tell the difference. However, if in need of a quick Pastina fix while waiting for Ronzoni to bring its version back, there are plenty of options available!

New ‘Jeopardy!’ Category Was A Nod To Fan Favorite Former Champion https://www.suggest.com/new-jeopardy-category-was-nod-to-fan-favorite-former-champion/2713956/ Fri, 13 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2713956 screenshot of Ken Jennings hosting Jeopardy! during the final round

We aren’t far into 2023, but we’ve already witnessed many impressive contestants battle it out on the famed Jeopardy! stage. However, if you’re anything like us, you’re still recovering from last year’s Tournament of Champions. If that’s the case, then you’ll be delighted to know that Jeopardy! clue writers paid homage to one of the tournament finalists in a recent episode.

Clue Writers Urge Contestants To ‘Bring It!’

It’s safe to say that one of the best and most unexpected delights from last year’s Tournament of Champions was the one and only Sam Buttrey. The associate professor bore a striking resemblance to comedian Steve Martin and like his celebrity doppelganger, he never missed an opportunity to put a smile on everyone’s faces. In fact, when he won the Professors Tournament, he earned a shout-out from Martin himself.

All the while, the Professors Tournament champion proved himself as one of the most formidable players to stand behind the Jeopardy! podium. We shouldn’t be surprised that Jeopardy! writers decided to honor Buttrey in a recent episode. To kick off the show on January 5, the first board included a category called “Bring It!” In the category, each clue had something to do with “bringing.”

TRENDING: This ‘Jeopardy!’ Category Offers A Perfect Way To Start Reading More In 2023

For example, the $200 clue read, “You ‘bring home’ this meat idiomatically when you earn income, but pick some up for real for our breakfast tomorrow.” Of course, the answer would be “bacon.”

Sam Buttrey Would Often Tell Ken Jennings To ‘Bring It!’

While it’s a subtle tribute, it seems like clue writers named this category at least in part for Buttrey. While competing on the show, every time the academic would select the last clue on the board, he would tell host Ken Jennings to “bring it!” In fact, when Buttrey won the fourth finals game, the show tweeted “Consider it brought,” with a gif of Buttrey saying “Bring it on!”

So few Jeopardy! contestants really get to make an impression on fans. Yet, Buttrey was such a hit with viewers that we are still talking about him all these weeks later. He may not have taken home victory in the Tournament of Champions, but it looks like he did win a strong fan base. Even Jeopardy! clue writers can’t help but love the hilarious professor!

‘M3GAN’ Looks Like The Sleeper Hit Of The Winter Doldrums https://www.suggest.com/m3gan-looks-like-sleeper-hit-winter-doldrums/2713974/ Thu, 12 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2713974 screenshot of the Megan doll from M3GAN smiling and looking creepy

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the box office, then you’ve probably heard about M3GAN—one of the biggest box office surprises in the last few years. From the first trailers, M3GAN seemed just another killer doll movie. So, what made it shatter box-office expectations? Let’s take a closer look at this unexpected hit.

‘M3GAN’ Becomes A Stand-Out Hit

Since Child’s Play premiered in 1988, killer dolls have been a staple in the horror genre. Every few years, we’re introduced to a new homicidal toy, but only a few have managed to earn a place in pop culture. However, it looks like M3GAN is on track to become the latest killer doll franchise.

Per CinemaBlend, M3GAN nearly doubled box office predictions on its opening weekend. While experts predicted it could gross as little as $15 million during its opening weekend, it managed to break $30 million. For a film produced on a $12 million budget, that’s not too bad. In fact, if it hadn’t been up against cinematic goliath Avatar: The Way of Water, it would have easily dominated the box office that weekend.

TRENDING: Allison Williams Is Amazed At The ‘Amount Of Stuff [She] Can Get Done In 30 Minutes’ After Becoming A Mother

Expectations were undoubtedly low leading up to M3GAN’s premiere. January is often described as a “dump month” in the film industry. Due to a slowdown in movie-theater traffic, studios usually release films that they predict are not going to turn the biggest profit anyway. Horror films that weren’t promising enough for an autumn release usually hit theaters in January or February.

Then there’s the fact that critics usually underestimate horror films. In the horror genre, trope-heavy plots (like those involving killer dolls) are almost automatically dismissed.

How ‘M3GAN’ Is Different

Honestly, M3GAN can thank social media for its unexpected success. After the film’s first trailer dropped, social media platforms instantly latched on to a clip of M3gan dancing. The clip ended up becoming a viral meme weeks before the film’s actual premiere date.

It seemed like people were interested in the film because it looked so campy. It’s hard to say if the bulk of prospective viewers were going in with high hopes or if it was all in the name of keeping the joke going. Whatever it was that brought them to theaters, viewers quickly found that the movie was far more comedic and self-aware than they could have predicted. It turned out that the film’s makers were very much in on the joke.

Given the early numbers, it looks like M3GAN was the perfect recipe for a winter sleeper hit. Per Deadline, a sequel to the outrageous horror film is already in the works. It’s clear audiences haven’t seen the last of this murderous dancing doll.

If Prince Harry Is Removed From Official Role At King Charles’ Coronation, It Might Solve A Bigger Problem https://www.suggest.com/prince-harry-if-removed-from-official-role-king-charles-coronation-might-solve-bigger-problem/2713926/ Wed, 11 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2713926 Prince Harry looking stern in a black suit and tie

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for royal watchers around the world. While the British royal family quietly celebrated the holidays, the media has been hard at work broadcasting every leaked detail from Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. Given the circus, it’s no wonder new reports are saying Harry will not have a role in King Charles’ upcoming coronation. However, the historic move may be killing two birds with one stone.

Prince Harry ‘Written Out’ Of Coronation

Per the Sunday Times, Prince Harry no longer has a role in King Charles’ coronation. According to the publication’s inside source, the Duke of Sussex has been “written out” of the event. In past coronations, royal dukes have served as “liege men.” To pay homage to the monarch, the dukes were also required to kneel before them, touch the crown, and kiss them on the right cheek.

Given the increasingly palpable tension between Harry and The Firm, it was previously unclear if Harry would have a role in the historic event. Now, per this new report, it seems like Charles and his team have reached a verdict. Apparently, Prince William will be the only liege man to pay homage to Charles during the coronation.

RELATED: All About Princess Anne’s Husband, Who Has No Royal Title And Is Rarely Seen In Public

Of course, this means that Harry wasn’t the only exclusion. Queen Elizabeth’s cousins, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, and Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, have apparently been cut from the ceremony as well. Not to mention, this order excuses Prince Andrew from any role he would otherwise have in his brother’s coronation.

In fact, while many royalists are concluding that this decision was directed at Harry, we’re guessing it had just as much if not more to do with Andrew. Given his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and subsequent legal troubles, the Duke of York has become one of the most controversial royals in recent memory. We wouldn’t be surprised if the king didn’t want his brother’s presence to complicate the momentous occasion.

An Unsurprising Development

To those who’ve been paying attention, this development was honestly expected. Experts have long speculated that King Charles planned to slim down the monarchy. The king failed to issue multiple expected titles upon his ascension, instead only bestowing the Prince and Princess of Wales titles to Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Per the Daily Mail, the coronation ceremony is expected to last only one hour. For reference, Queen Elizabeth’s lasted about three. Then, Charles petitioned Parliament to appoint his siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, as Counsellors of State in lieu of Harry and Andrew.

If the Sunday Times‘ source is reliable and King Charles truly has dismissed the royal dukes from acting as his liege men, then he’ll be one step closer to achieving the minimalist monarchy royalists have been predicting for years. King Charles’ coronation is scheduled for May 6, 2023.

CNN Is Losing One Of Its Longest-Tenured Reporters To An Incredibly Important Cause https://www.suggest.com/suzanne-malveaux-cnn-losing-longest-tenured-reporters-incredibly-important-cause/2713535/ Wed, 11 Jan 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2713535 CNN logo on outside of tall office building

It’s no secret that CNN had a turbulent 2022. Now, one of the network’s most senior reporters is stepping down from their position. Is 2023 shaping up to be another disorderly year for CNN? Here’s what we know.

CNN Underwent Many Changes In 2022

Last year, CNN got off to a scandalous start after network chief Jeff Zucker resigned from his position. As it turned out, Zucker failed to disclose a years-long affair he was having with a colleague.

While it wasn’t a good look, plenty of professionals and businesses have recovered from this kind of dirty laundry. The network pushed forward, launching its streaming service CNN+.

For the endeavor, the network recruited some big names to helm even bigger projects. However, the network made the decision to shut down the service just one month after its launch. This meant that multiple series that were in the works were abruptly axed, leaving many people either out of a job or hunting for a new network to host their project.

In November, the network announced that it had begun layoffs. Of course, that’s never a good sign. By the end of 2022, people were reasonably questioning the future of CNN. Now, we’re possibly seeing another sign that the network isn’t through with this tumultuous period.

CNN Announces Departure Of Senior Reporter

Journalist Suzanne Malveaux joined CNN in 2003 as a correspondent. She rose through the ranks, going on to anchor one of the network’s dayside news hours and host the program Around the World.

For a full decade, Malveaux worked as a CNN White House Correspondent. Now, the established journalist has announced her plans to leave CNN. However, it’s clear she didn’t make the decision lightly.

Now, Malveaux is moving into a new chapter. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the journalist plans to take a step back from her work to spend more time with family. As for her professional life, she does intend to explore new projects. Apparently, she’s already in talks to collaborate with Nelson Mandela’s great-grandson on a new project.

Malveaux certainly isn’t leaving CNN on bad terms after her 20 years on the network. However, it’s just another sign that CNN is still going through a period of change.

As 2023 brings this huge development for the network, it certainly makes you wonder how the network will look going into 2024. Here’s hoping it adapts to the changing times and finds its footing!

Al Roker Made A Touching Joke To His Wife Between Emergency Surgeries That Nearly Made Her Burst Into Tears https://www.suggest.com/al-roker-made-touching-joke-wife-between-emergency-surgeries-nearly-made-her-burst-into-tears/2713526/ Tue, 10 Jan 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2713526 Deborah Roberts and Al Roker smiling together at a New York City ballet event

Over the past two months, Al Roker has been absent from his usual spot on Today. On Friday, Roker finally returned to NBC and opened up about his recent health struggles. According to Roker’s wife, ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts, a joke is how she knew he was going to be okay.

Roberts Recounts Roker’s ‘Medical Mystery’

After his two-month absence, Al Roker and Deborah Roberts sat down to talk to Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on a recent Today broadcast. “He is a living, breathing miracle,” Roberts said of her husband of 22 years. “I’m not overstating it I don’t think, Al was a very, very, very sick man…and I think most people did not know that.”

According to Roberts, she and Roker didn’t even know the full extent of his illness in the early days. “It was a team that had to figure out what was happening, he was a medical mystery for a couple of weeks. It was the most tumultuous, frightening journey we have ever been on,” she explained. “Al went through a lot of tests, a lot of scopes, and there was just so much that had to be done—and a surgery if you don’t mind me saying—a major, major surgery, and we were just on pins and needles every day.”

Roker’s Medical Journey Began With COVID

Roker revealed that the ordeal initially started when he contracted COVID in September. Complications arose, and he subsequently developed blood clots that spread to his lungs. However, doctors soon realized he was suffering from internal bleeding, although it was hard to identify the source. “I lost half my blood, and they were trying to figure out where it was,” Roker revealed.

When doctors began operating on Roker, they tracked the bleeding down to two ulcers in his digestive system. “Finally they went in, did the surgery, and it ended up that I had two bleeding ulcers. They had to resection the colon and take out my gallbladder … I went in for one operation, and I got four free,” the meteorologist joked.

Roberts Was By Roker’s Side The Entire Time

According to Roberts, her husband never lost his sense of humor. In fact, as he was recovering, Roker’s good spirits are what made her certain that he was going to pull through.

“I was sitting there one day in the hospital and through this very scratchy voice—he was so gaunt and exhausted—he said, ‘I’m going to make a spatchcocked turkey for Christmas.’ And I didn’t know whether to burst into tears or just to beam,” Roberts recalled to Kotb and Guthrie, both of whom were noticeably teary-eyed.

“That was the moment for me, and it will always be the moment for me, where I knew [he would be okay]. I’m sitting here hoping he’s got to make it to Christmas, and he just wants to make a turkey.” Thankfully, Roker made it through Christmas and into 2023!

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Explains Why He ‘Totally Lost Consciousness’ While Making His Final Jeopardy Wager https://www.suggest.com/jeopardy-champ-explains-why-totally-lost-consciousness-while-making-final-wager/2713507/ Tue, 10 Jan 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2713507 screenshot of Lloyd Sy during Final Jeopardy crossing his arms and covering his face with one hand

When competing on Jeopardy!, contestants are limited as to how much of their personality they’re able to show. However, plenty of competitors still manage to entertain the audience with the smallest of jokes, expressions, and acts of sincerity. During a recent game, one competitor’s nervous energy made for a delightful end to the episode.

Lloyd Sy Claims He ‘Totally Lost Consciousness’ On Air

Most competitors on Jeopardy! have to learn how to keep their composure even when they’re losing. However, we don’t often talk about how disorienting it is to win. On the January 3 episode of the popular game show, contestant Lloyd Sy reminded us that when he went up against 13-game champion Ray LaLonde and contestant Claire Theoret.

Each competitor played an impressive game, and all three scores were close going into Final Jeopardy. The final clue read, “Early in her career she translated romance novels into Spanish, often changing the dialogue to make the heroines smarter.”

Both Theoret answered correctly (who is Isabel Allende?) and chose to double their scores. When it came around to Sy, he was more than $11,000 behind LaLonde. Things didn’t look good as Sy was bowing his head in what seemed like disappointment. However, he surprised the audience by looking up with a confident smile as Jennings revealed his correct answer. Sy wagered $12,000, putting him in the lead with a final score of $24,490.

Fans Notice Sy’s ‘Fake-Out’

During his short time on the show, it’s clear that Sy made an impression on fans. In a response to the game summary on the Jeopardy! subreddit, one fan gently critiqued Sy’s behavior. “The fakeout crestfall from lloyd (if that’s what he was going for) was goofy. well played but you may as well smile and fist pump into the camera before ken reads the response, a poker face is more tense,” the user wrote.

However, Sy actually saw the comment and chose to clear things up. According to the contestant, he was so disoriented by the whole situation that he wasn’t actually trying to put on a bit. “Honestly I was trying to do a poker face from the beginning but completely lost consciousness when the camera panned to me and I guess that came out in this gloriously dramatic way?!” Sy wrote.

It just goes to show that no amount of preparation can make up for the real thing. It’s hard to know how you’ll react in the face of winning $24,000 on national television. Whether people enjoyed his reaction or not, there’s no disputing that he had a classy response to winning. Almost immediately, Sy turned his attention to 13-game champ LaLonde, making sure to show his respect for the formidable player.
