A hair mask is an intense conditioner that contains rich ingredients in much heavier concentrations than normal conditioners. To keep those locks as healthy as possible, the general advice is to use a hair mask once a week. However, those with dryer, color-treated, damaged, or aging hair might want to use a hair mask more often than that.

When choosing a hair mask, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the options. But the inclusion of a new ingredient, cupuaçu, makes this particular hair mask a cut above the rest—and it might just be the key to unlocking healthier hair.

The Low-Down On Cupuaçu

Cupuaçu is one of the most popular native fruits cultivated in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. The fruit’s pulp is used in a variety of food products, while the seeds are often utilized in cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. Cupuaçu butter comes from the pulp and is considered a modern plant-based alternative to lanolin, an ingredient used in some skincare products that can be irritating for sensitive skin.

According to a March 2014 study published by the Journal of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists, cupuaçu has the ability to quickly penetrate the skin and retain moisture. Researchers sang its praises, calling its water absorption properties far superior to that of lanolin and shea butter.

“Cupuaçu could support 440% of its weight in water … allowing it to function much more effectively as a skin hydrator and plumper [than shea butter or lanolin],” the study explained. “[It] is an excellent emollient that restores elasticity to the skin while providing antioxidants and hydration.”

The study also referred to cupuaçu butter as a “super moisturizer” because it has “water-loving properties.”

Although this research was focused on the skin, skincare and haircare are often closely linked—and certain ingredients can benefit both. After all, your scalp is skin, and healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.

Klorane Harnesses The Power Of Cupuaçu

If you’d like to see what this powerhouse ingredient can do for your scalp and hair, the Klorane 3-in-1 Hair Mask with Organic Cupuaçu Butter is definitely worth a try.

This product fills in the gaps between keratin on individual hair strands to repair and prevent damaged hair. And just as the study above indicated, the cupuaçu butter in this restorative hair mask has been proven to be 1.5 times more nourishing than shea butter.

It’s the best option for dry, damaged hair, and it can be used in three different ways:

  1. For a traditional in-shower treatment, apply the mask to the lengths and ends of your hair, leave on for five minutes, then rinse out.
  2. For an overnight hair mask when you need that deep conditioning treatment, apply to dry or towel-dried hair in the evening and leave on until morning.
  3. For a leave-in cream to be used on very dry hair, apply one or two pea-sized dollops on dry or towel-dried hair.

We’re not the only ones impressed with cupuaçu and just how well it can restore dry, damaged locks; the five-star reviews are rolling in for this product.

“I was very impressed with the way the Klorane mask affected my hair,” one reviewer shared. “The texture was better. It was easier to manage and it held body much better.”

Another wrote, “Been using it for a long time … keep trying other products but always return to the holy grail! With frizzy, curly hair, this is a must-try!”

I Have Thin, Fine Hair, And This One Volumizing Product Is Superior To Hairspray In Every Way https://www.suggest.com/what-is-texture-spray/2720960/ Thu, 02 Feb 2023 12:30:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2720960 Hairstylist using spray product to add volume to client's hair

Hairspray has been the go-to product for hold, volume, and finishing styles for what feels like forever. But according to one of our Suggest editors, there’s a better product on the market that’s superior to hairspray for all hair types: texture spray.

As someone with fine, thin hair, she swears by using texture spray over hairspray, claiming better hold and a boost in volume. So what makes texture spray the superior choice? There are actually a few reasons.

The Differences Between Texture Spray And Hairspray

Texture spray and hairspray have different purposes and thus are formulated differently. While hairspray is traditionally designed to “freeze” your style in place, texture spray’s goal is to well, add texture to your hair, which helps to create volume.

While hairspray can at times leave your hair feeling sticky or crunchy, texture spray is more lightweight and typically leaves hair softer but still with some grit.

It is precisely for this reason that texture spray is a great choice for rocking waves or curls as it gives hair a more natural appearance and a bit of movement. It can definitely work for straight styles as well, giving a much-needed lift at the root.

While not quite the same as dry shampoo, texture spray can also absorb excess oil, create definition, and provide support for updos and braids.

Another benefit of texture spray is its safe to use before heat styling. Depending on which stylist you talk to, hairspray shouldn’t be used before a curling iron or flat iron because:

  • It could cause damage to your hair if you don’t let the spray dry first.
  • It could dry out your hair.
  • It could leave a sticky residue on your curling rod or flat iron.

While hairspray can still be used as a finishing spray after texture spray, the latter can definitely smooth down flyaways and provide extra hold to help keep your style in place.

Some Of Our Favorite Texturizing Sprays

The Living Proof Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray is scientifically engineered to deliver instant, long-lasting volume and texture while providing a soft hold for styling. It has a light, fruity scent, and works well on all hair types for that “imperfectly perfect, lived-in look and feel.”

You can pump the volume on straight hair or give some piece-y definition to waves. This spray is all about “maximum impact, minimum effort, major results.”

Created with New York City stylists to achieve the “perfectly imperfect undone look”, SGX NYC’s The Do It All 3-In-1 Texturizing Spray is an innovative dry texture spray that gives your hair a refreshing pick-me-up and light hold while enhancing texture.

Formulated with sea botanical extracts for their texturizing properties, this lightweight formula also acts as a dry shampoo to absorb excess oil as well as a hairspray to help lock everything in place (without being frozen). The fruity-citrus-woods scent is just the cherry on top.

Instantly achieve sexy volume and texture without clouding your color by using the Color Wow Style on Steroids Texturizing Spray. Your hair will never feel weighed down, dull, or sticky; instead, you’ll get “beachy waves on demand.”

There are actually four different ways to use this spray. You can use it before heat styling for protection, as well as after styling for some “extra sexy oomph.” It can also be used for second-day styling to zhuzh up slept-on hair and absorb oil. Or, you can use it to volumize and glam up your ponytail.

No matter what texture spray you choose, the key to getting the best results is all about application. Like any hair product, oftentimes less is more. It is also advised to hold the can about 10 inches away from your hair, spraying from the root to the tip.

For extra volume, lift hair and add an extra spritz right at the root. You can also spray your fingers and work around your scalp for a more relaxed look.

Herringbone Highlights Are The Perfect (And Trending) Way To Embrace Your Gray Hair https://www.suggest.com/herringbone-highlights-gray-hair/2714809/ Sun, 15 Jan 2023 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2714809 Examples of herringbone highlights on graying hair

The days of scrambling to cover up gray hairs as soon as they appear (hopefully) seem to be coming to an end. We’re totally here for embracing our natural beauty—but that doesn’t mean the transition will come easily. If you’ve spent a lot of time and money covering up your grays, quitting the dye cold turkey can be tough.

But there are methods of making the transition that can make it less stark or awkward. Some women turn to hair extensions to help with the change, while others go for a big chop to start afresh.

Yet another technique can assist in the shift to gray hair by making your changing color appear more natural, gradual, and blended. They’re called herringbone highlights, and they’re quickly becoming one of the biggest hair trends of 2023.

Herringbone highlights help you embrace your natural silver streaks by incorporating them into your natural hair color. Having a lighter shade of brown or blonde hair can be helpful for making herringbone highlights look even more seamless, but it’s not necessary.

If you have lighter hair, incorporating both warm and cool highlights in addition to your natural gray will help blend it all together, so even when your color grows out a bit, it won’t look as noticeable.

If you have darker hair, you’ll probably want to stick with only cool highlights, aiming to achieve a final shade that is similar to your natural grays. Also, being more sporadic than heavy-handed with the highlights will achieve a more natural look.

Most hairstylists and colorists will recognize what you want if you ask for herringbone highlights. But if they don’t, request highlights that blend in with your natural gray. Specify that you want your highlights spread throughout the hair in an irregular pattern to mimic natural gray coloring patterns.

Keep in mind that the point of this technique isn’t to cover up your gray hair. Your silvers will be the star of the show because it’s high time we start to celebrate aging and all that it entails.

This Celeb-Loved Dry Shampoo Revives And Thickens Thin, Lifeless Locks  https://www.suggest.com/serge-normant-meta-revive-dry-shampoo-overview/2712662/ Sat, 07 Jan 2023 21:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2712662 A woman with a short but voluminous hair style

Serge Normant is one of the leading hairstylists of our time. His work has been featured on fashion magazine covers like Vogue and Vanity Fair, on numerous fashion runways, and in countless television shows (recently with an always fashional Carrie ‘do in And Just Like That…).

To create his picture-perfect styles, Serge Normant developed a line of hair care products that are designed to create shiny, voluminous locks that are the stuff of envy. His cult-classic Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray is beloved by both Julia Roberts and Brooke Shields, and those ladies know a thing or two about rocking a gorgeous mane.

Yet another product from his line has people talking (not surprisingly Roberts and Sarah Jessica Parker being two of them): his Meta Revive Dry Shampoo.

The Meta Revive Dry Shampoo isn’t your typical dry shampoo—it’s so much more. It also works as a root lifter, volumizer, texturizer, and hair thickener. Formulated with cedar bark extract and Zea Mays, this dry shampoo promises to quickly absorb excess oil while adding shine and softness, all without weighing down your hair.

This product can also work great on freshly washed hair, providing instant lift, body, and hold. Whether you are looking to extend your blowout, refresh your locks between washes, or simply add a little extra oomph to your look, the Meta Revive Dry Shampoo can handle it.

RELATED: This ’80s Hair Washing Trick Can Help Those With Thin Hair Score Extra Volume

Reviewers pointed out that this isn’t a drugstore brand dry shampoo, so a little goes a long way. Others note that this is just as much of a texturizing product as it is a dry shampoo, so if you’re looking to just skip another day of washing your hair, you might want to try something else. But if you want some serious volume and body, this product fits the bill.

“Love, love, love this dry shampoo,” one happy shopper wrote. “My hair tends to fall flat very quickly and gets oily fast … this gives me bounce, lift, and texture and reduces oil.”

“This is by far the best dry shampoo I’ve ever purchased. It does so much more than take care of oil or flatness, it adds remarkable body and volume, and even provides control,” another shopper noted. “I can use it sparingly for big results. This is a product I actually apply the day I shampoo because of the volumizing effects. I highly recommend to buy.”

With these glowing reviews, we’re definitely taking a second look. And if you’re in the market for more body and shine with your hair, Serge Normant’s Meta Revive Dry Shampoo may be worth a closer look for you as well.

Want Stronger, Healthier Hair This Year? This One Product Is A Must In Your Routine https://www.suggest.com/rene-furterer-complexe-5-overview/2712594/ Fri, 06 Jan 2023 11:05:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2712594

A thriving, luscious garden starts with healthy soil. And thriving, luscious hair starts with a healthy scalp. Even if you currently have a favorite shampoo, conditioner, and even post-wash routine, how much thought have you given to your pre-shampoo regimen?

René Furterer’s COMPLEXE 5 is a potent blend of plant-based, detoxifying ingredients that prep, energize, and support the health of the scalp. By deeply cleansing your scalp, Complexe 5 can help restore balance and unveil stronger, healthier hair from root to tip.

Why Your Scalp Health Matters

Poor scalp health leads to clogged pores, which can interfere with your follicle health. Consequently, this can cause hair to appear thinner and duller and even start to fall out. Inflammation and infections caused by poor scalp health can also cause severe itching, rough patches, and dandruff.

Complexe 5 restores scalp health by removing these impurities without stripping the hair. Featuring citrus, lavender, caster, marjoram, soybean, and argan oils, this “warming concentrate” is designed to cleanse and soothe the scalp for results you can see and feel.

A Cult Favorite For A Reason

In a usage test with 110 participants, Complexe 5 users saw an 88% increase in hair strength and an 89% increase in scalp balance over 28 days. René Furterer’s site also reports a study that found the product’s targeted applicator doubled microcirculation, thereby stimulating the scalp which is thought to help promote longer, stronger hair.

One user said they were “absolutely blown away” by how good Complexe 5 made their scalp feel: “This stuff is truly amazing. I figure that the products I’ve used in my hair have created pretty uncomfortable scalp issues for about 15 years, and this miracle elixir cleared it up in five days … This is totally worth the price, and I’d pay a lot more for it if I had to for my next bottle.”

RELATED: Want More Voluminous Hair? Our Top Finds This Year To Help Treat Hair Loss, Thinning, And Flat Strands

Another Complexe 5 user who has been growing out and donating her hair for the last 20 years echoed the same sentiment. “Yeah it’s a tad pricey, but you get a darn good amount!” she said. “I say SPEND THE MONEY on your hair if you want it to look as glorious as possible. Never mess around when it comes to your hair and face care. Buy the good stuff; you’ll be rewarded with healthy, shining, thick locks.”

An Easy Addition To Your Routine

Once or twice a week, apply the Complexe 5 oil using the targeted scalp massager all over a dry, unwashed scalp. (Note: You should apply this product to the scalp only, not the hair itself. Sectioning the hair can help increase application accuracy.) Next, massage the product into the scalp and let sit for five to 10 minutes. Then shampoo and condition as normal.

This pre-shampoo treatment is suitable for all hair types, but those with sensitive scalps may want to proceed with caution. Some reviewers have noted an intense tingling sensation, but also have said it does decrease in intensity with repeated use. Others have mixed the product with a carrier oil, such as jojoba or argan, to lessen its intensity.

René Furterer’s Complexe 5 can help a healthy, energized scalp for stronger, more robust hair—the high-quality topsoil for your luscious, thriving garden, so to speak. Considering the formula’s all-natural ingredients and glowing reviews, we’d say it’s well worth the price.

Want More Voluminous Hair? Our Top Finds This Year To Help Treat Hair Loss, Thinning, And Flat Strands https://www.suggest.com/hair-thinning-solution-roundup/2708369/ Sat, 31 Dec 2022 14:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2708369 Woman pulling back hair on scalp to reveal thinning

Hair thinning or loss can affect us at any point in our lives, but it becomes especially prevalent as we age. In fact, hair loss has been directly linked to hormonal changes before and during menopause. (As if the hot flashes, brain fog, and night sweats weren’t enough.)

Unfortunately, there is still a notable stigma around hair loss—particularly in women. We want to break down the negative connotations surrounding this common phenomenon while seeking out effective, accessible solutions to help you feel more like yourself.

Not every solution will work for everyone, so time and patience are vital in finding the right one for you. Here are some of the well-loved products, treatments, solutions, and techniques we have found this year to combat or camouflage thinning hair.

1. The One Product That Can Provide Instant Lift

Let’s start with one of the easiest solutions for fine or thinning hair: texturizing spray.

This dry finishing product gives your tresses softness and body without weighing them down while absorbing excess oil. It’s a lot like dry shampoo, except it will provide more volume to those with fine, thin hair.

We outline several high-quality options in our texturizing spray round-up, ranging from under $8 to $50.

2. Try This Celeb Favorite Volumizing Spray

Speaking of volumizing sprays, Brooke Shields attributes Serge Normant’s Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray for her shiny, touchable, and full-bodied hair.

This dry spray has the dual benefits of adding touchable volume and strengthening hair thanks to natural minerals and proteins that work to create mega lift and texture.

It’s no wonder Shields (as well as Sarah Jessica Parker, Meghan Markle, and Julia Roberts) love this product so much.

3. Wash Your Hair Upside Down

Leave it to TikTok to come up with the zaniest (but surprisingly effective) hair volumizing solutions. One trend that took the social media platform by storm earlier this year was upside-down washing.

The name speaks for itself: rather than lathering and conditioning your hair standing upright, you do your hair care routine with your locks hanging upside-down.

Trichologists (hair and scalp specialists) say that upside-down washing stimulates hair growth by improving circulation to the scalp and alleviating the constant pressure of water directly on the crown.

4. You Might Be Using The Wrong Hairbrush

You can try all the hair products you want, but if you’re not using the right hair brush, all your experimenting (and spending) could be for naught.

Did you know that different hair brushes are designed for different uses? We break down some of the most common types, including detangler wet brushes, thermal brushes, wide-tooth combs, bristle brushes, and teasing brushes, so you can find your best tool for the job.

5. A Replumping Hair Mask Is Great For Thin Strands

René Furtere was a hairstylist and salon owner in mid-20th-century France whose ideas about hair regrowth and rejuvenation were insightful far beyond his time. His philosophy was that “beautiful hair grows from a healthy scalp, like a plant in fertile soil,” and his products embody this idea.

The René Furtere Replumping Conditioning Mask is specifically designed for thinning, aging hair. According to a consumer test, 90% of women felt their hair was “re-densified” after four weeks of use.

6. Find Your Ideal Minoxidil Dose

Until 2014, high-dose minoxidil products (a.k.a. Rogaine) were only approved by the FDA for men’s use (seriously?!). Thankfully, women now have a science-backed hair loss solution that is available in 2% and 5% concentrations.

Nioxin Hair Regrowth Treatment For Women With Minoxidil 2% is one option we discovered this year, with some shoppers saying it is “liquid gold.”

Another great option is Keranique’s 5% minoxidil topical foam that can help stop hair loss on the top of the scalp and support hair regrowth.

7. Take A Cue From Rikki Lake And Jennifer Grey

Both Rikki Lake and Jennifer Grey shared their hair loss (and regrowth) journey on social media this year, and we were blown away by the results of their Harklinikken hair regimen.

Harklinikken, which translates to “hair clinic” in Danish, creates highly specialized, paraben- and fragrance-free hair products that focus on an individual’s specific hair and scalp needs. Lake and Grey both use their shampoo, conditioner, and custom extract, and the results speak for themselves.

8. Experiment With Alyssa Milano’s Regimen

When actress Alyssa Milano’s long-haul COVID-19 caused extreme hair loss, she turned to her stylist, Lihn Nguyen, who recommended Nioxin.

Nioxin offers a wide range of formulas for particular hair types and thinning progressions, all of which are designed to help stop hair loss from breakage, promote a healthy scalp for new healthy new growth, and strengthen existing strands.

Milano also swears by Nutrafol, a daily supplement designed to target root causes of hair loss like stress, hormonal shifts, lifestyle, nutrition, and metabolism.

9. Get A Quick Fix With Scalp Foundation

Good things take time, and unfortunately, that also pertains to hair regrowth. If you’re looking for a short-term solution to hair thinning or loss, scalp foundation might be a viable option for you.

Scalp foundation, also called hair or scalp concealer, is a temporary topical product that provides pigment to the scalp to give the appearance of fuller, thicker hair, evens out hairlines, and can even cover roots between color applications. How’s that for a win-win-win product?

2022: The Year That Gray Hair Went Mainstream For Women https://www.suggest.com/2022-year-gray-hair-went-mainstream-for-women/2696731/ Thu, 29 Dec 2022 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2696731 Two women laugh outdoors in fall clothing. Both women have gray hair

2022 may go down in history as the year that gray hair went mainstream for women. From brides and silver sisters to silver hair extensions and aging in Hollywood, more women are now accepting their gray hair and choosing to go au naturel. Let’s take a look at a few stories from the past year of how women are embracing their silver locks.

Silver Hair Care Misting

Keeping graying locks soft and smooth can be a struggle. If you have graying hair, you’ve probably noticed that the texture is different from your other hair. It’s more brittle, prone to breakage, dry, and coarse.

However, with more people embracing their gray hues, there are plenty of tips and tricks to taking care of your hair. One trick is to mist your silver hair before styling. You can then apply products specifically for your gray locks that will keep them hydrated. Read more about misting your gray hair here.

Fired For Gray Hair

Just as women began embracing their natural hues in 2022, at least one woman was presumed to be fired for her gray hair. After 35 years on the job, Lisa LaFlamme, a Canadian news anchor, was let go because she let her hair go au naturel.

Many major news outlets speculated that the respected news anchor was fired because of her locks. The story garnered the attention of many on social media, including large international brands. Read the full story here.

Five Hispanic Silver Sister Influencers

In 2022, several women from the Hispanic community decided to slay the world with their graying hair. In fact, at least five of these women became silver sister influencers thanks to their silver locks. Learn more about the five women here.

Aging In Hollywood

The fountain of youth is a myth that has continued to stay on trend in Hollywood for decades. However, this year the myth was busted by many celebrities, including Sarah Jessica Parker and Andy Cohen.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING: This All-Natural Supplement Restored Moisture And Strength To My Dry, Brittle Strands

When the two stars were spotted at a dinner together, only Parker received any flack for her graying hair. The actress immediately spoke up about the double-standard. Thankfully, she received the support for her dinner date and many other celebrities. Read the entire story here.

Bride Embraces Gray Hair

While many women are concerned about looking older with silver locks, especially on their wedding day, one bride decided to go against tradition. Instead of dying her graying hair, she celebrated her big day with her gorgeous silver locks.

She took the internet by storm and proved to the world that silver is stunning! Read more about the exuberant bride here.

Silver Hair Extensions In Demand

You know that gray hair has gone mainstream when retailers are jumping on the bandwagon! In 2022, gray locks were in such high demand that women began opting for silver hair extensions. It’s a trend we can all get behind. Learn more about the high demand for silver hair extensions here.

Shoppers Call This Hair Regrowth Treatment That Keeps Selling Out ‘Liquid Gold’ https://www.suggest.com/nioxin-hair-regrowth-treatment-overview/2708263/ Sat, 17 Dec 2022 14:25:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2708263 A woman touching her long, healthy hair while looking in the mirror

It can be challenging for women to cope with hair loss, believing they are alone in their experience. Many people believe hair loss and thinning primarily affect men, but it affects women quite significantly as well. According to the Cleveland Clinic, about 50% of women will suffer hair loss during their lifetime, with female-pattern hair loss (FPHL) being the most common cause.

In most cases, FPHL occurs with aging, as hormone fluctuations can lead to baldness. In addition, hair loss often gets worse during perimenopause and menopause as estrogen levels decline.

It is undoubtedly emotionally and physically challenging to experience hair loss and thinning. But there are several options for treatment, and we’re big fans of one specific hair regrowth solution that keeps selling out—and for good reason.

RELATED: Reviewers Are Raving Over This 3-Step System That Fights Thinning Hair

In the past, we’ve discussed Nioxin’s shampoo and conditioner, more specifically when Alyssa Milano recommended it for COVID hair loss, a troubling long hauler symptom. What sets this treatment apart from the rest are its extremely effective ingredients.

Nioxin’s hair regrowth treatment contains 2% minoxidil, which is also applied topically to treat certain types of baldness (like Rogaine). Plus, minoxidil is the only FDA-approved ingredient clinically proven to promote hair growth.

Best of all, applying it is easy. For optimal results apply the treatment to dry hair and scalp twice a day. Place one milliliter of Nioxin’s Regrowth Treatment drop by drop only in the areas affected by hair loss. Follow up by gently massaging the scalp and you’re finished.

While the Nioxin Hair Regrowth Treatment is a great place to start your hair regrowth journey, the three-step kit is an ideal way to make your hair irresistibly luscious. With Nioxin’s three-step system, you’ll receive a gentle cleansing shampoo and scalp nourishing conditioner along with the renowned hair regrowth treatment.

Nioxin offers its regrowth treatment in a one- or three-month supply, but keep in mind that because it’s so effective, it’s often sold out. Based on reviews (as one touted, it’s “liquid gold”), it’s easy to see why, so plan ahead!

“This specific brand was recommended to me by the folks at the Massachusetts General Hospital hair salon. I trust the people at a hospital to know what they’re talking about when it comes to a product like this,” one reviewer wrote. “I’ve been using this product for about a week now and I already feel like it’s doing me a lot of good,” they added.

Another fan of the product wrote, “I have tried everything on the market and this is the only thing that’s worked for me.”

Others agreed, saying Nioxin is superior compared to the rest, “I tried the other more famous (and more expensive) brand for a year with marginal results.”

If you are experiencing hair loss, know you are far from alone. And Nioxin’s Hair Regrowth Treatment could be just the treatment you’ve been searching for.

Other Hair Growth Treatments Not Working For You? Meet The Revolutionary Solution Actually Designed To Treat Hair Loss https://www.suggest.com/revela-hair-revival-series-overview/2708298/ Thu, 15 Dec 2022 12:25:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2708298 A woman with healthy hair holding a bottle of Revela hair serum

When Revela founders Dr. Evan Zhao, Dr. David Zhang, and Avi Boppana noticed their friends and family growing frustrated navigating the current world of hair loss solutions, they decided to start looking for their own.

Commonly used ingredients for hair regrowth, like minoxidil and finasteride, were not initially intended for hair growth. Rather, this was an observed side effect of using these molecules for other purposes. And while they work for some, they aren’t as effective for others.

Before starting Revela, the three founders worked at Harvard researching cancer therapies. Using the same technology they used in the lab, they began searching for the perfect molecule that promotes follicle health.

In their search, they found ProCelinyl™—an entirely new molecule unlike anything on the market, which they say is precisely what makes it so effective.

Revela’s Revolutionary Hair Revival Series

One of the things we love most about Revela is that this isn’t a large or elaborate hair care system you need to adopt—just one product is all you need. Their Hair Revival Series features two easy-to-use products, either of which is a cinch to add to your routine.

First is their Hair Revival Serum, which is a light, water-based product that can be used daily on all hair types.

Second is their Hair Growth Concentrate, which is a nourishing, oil-based product. This versatile product can fit into any routine—from normal to dry scalp types. It can be applied daily or used 2-3 times a week as a more intensive scalp mask to strengthen your routine.

To figure out which product is best for you, Revela offers a short online quiz to point you in the right direction.

Both products feature ProCelinyl™, Revela’s revolutionary, man-made molecule. But first: how did the Revela team find ProCelinyl™, and why do they claim it’s so effective?

Finding The Best Molecule For The Job

The team at Revela used proprietary AI and machine learning methods to narrow down a pool of 7 million molecules by how well they stimulated hair follicle health. What they found was ProCelinyl™.

The next step was rigorous testing for safety and efficacy. First, they observed ProCelinyl™’s effects on human scalp cells. They reported that ProCelinyl™ was found to increase proliferation, or cell growth. The Revela team also observed these cells for signs of damage, of which there were none.

In a clinical trial reported by Revela, a total of 32 women between the ages of 27 and 65 tested Revela for six weeks. Revela reported that 97% saw improvements in their hair, and 87% saw a decrease in hair shedding.

You can read more about the team’s research process in their extensive and highly fascinating white paper.

What Reviewers Are Saying

While Revela’s research and reported findings are exciting, the website’s customer testimonials seem pretty amazing.

Take it from Isabella T., a 54-year-old woman experiencing age- and hormone-related hair thinning, who uses Revela daily.

“I am so impressed by my results, so much so that I’ve tapered to using Revela once a week because I have too much baby hair—which I’m not complaining about! Application is easy, and the products don’t leave a greasy feeling. Very lightweight—I can’t recommend this enough to anyone experiencing thinning hair.”

Or from Bethany M., a 55-year-old woman who has suffered from stress-related hair loss for close to 30 years. “Viviscal was no longer effective for me, and minoxidil was out of the question due to my beloved cat that sleeps on my head (it’s toxic for cats).”

Bethany took a chance on Revela’s hypoallergenic, non-toxic formula (that’s also safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding). She says she is, “definitely glad I gave Revela a shot. Based on these amazing early results, I am already planning to give Revela at least a full year to work its magic. If this trend continues, I will be a customer for life.”

What Sets Revela Apart

The Revela team created ProCelinyl™ in response to what Zhao calls a “toxic wellness industry” that “makes you feel like if these products don’t work, it’s your fault. These are 100-year-old ingredients; it’s not your fault they don’t work on you. It’s extremely predatory.”

“A lot of different brands will not even do their own experiments,” Zhao continues. “They’ll say it’s proven and backed, but they’re using the claims that the ingredients themselves have. Nobody knows if it’s going to work or not.”

Thus, Zhao says, “it’s not your fault if it doesn’t work. I can guarantee we put in the most effort out of everybody [to determine] a high possibility that it will work. We do a lot of public testing to make sure we’re very confident it works. We think it’s something really worthwhile and something everybody should have access to.”

Consistency is key with these products. That’s why Revela offers a 20% subscription discount when you sign up for regular Revela deliveries. The team believes in its products so much that they offer a money-back guarantee if you don’t see visible results after 60 days.

If you’ve been disappointed by the same old ingredients packaged into different products, then maybe it’s time to consider something different. Revela’s proprietary formula was created by biochemists to fill a clear need in a hair regrowth industry surrounded by buzzwords and 100-year-old ingredients. Zhao says his own mother is a regular user of Revela and loves it—and you just might, too.

This ’80s Hair Washing Trick Can Help Those With Thin Hair Score Extra Volume   https://www.suggest.com/reverse-washing-hair-how-to/2694975/ Sat, 03 Dec 2022 21:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2694975 Woman washing the ends of her hair

Washing your hair is a straightforward task, right? A little shampoo, a little conditioner, a little scrub, and voilà—you’re good to go. It turns out, there are methods and techniques that will result in cleaner, healthier hair. For starters, focusing on the scalp where oil production actually happens is important. And according to Jennifer Aniston’s hairstylist, you really should wash, rinse, and repeat when cleansing your hair.

Another hairwashing method has been on the rise lately, but it’s far from new. This process became popular in the ’80s when perming was all the rage and hair needed as much protection as it could get. It is now getting renewed interest, especially for those looking for an instant volume boost.

Referred to as reverse washing, this aptly named technique is simple—you literally reverse the order in which you wash your hair.

How To Reverse Wash Your Hair

After wetting the hair, apply conditioner starting at the ends and work your way up. For maximum moisture benefits, massage the conditioner into your strands and let sit for about five minutes.

Next, add shampoo to your scalp, and be sure to gently massage with your fingertips to remove product buildup at the roots. Using a scalp massager is also a great tool for a thorough clean. Finally, rinse with warm water.

RELATED: This One Simple Change Can Reduce Scalp Build-Up And Increase Hair Volume

The Benefits Of Reverse Washing

The thought behind reverse-washing is two-fold. Shampoo is notoriously drying, so applying conditioner first to dry ends can help protect them from drying out even more.

Additionally, conditioner is often thought to weigh down strands, so by shampooing second, you’ll be removing any leftover conditioner that can result in limp hair post-shower.

As an added bonus, you may even be able to extend the time between washes thanks to the conditioner being shampooed off instead of simply rinsed, the latter of which may cause hair to look greasy quicker.

Who Reverse Washing Is Good For

Reverse hair washing is best for those with thin or fine hair as it can protect delicate strands while giving the appearance of thicker hair. It is also a great choice to try for those that struggle with dry, damaged hair, especially if you color or chemically treat your tresses.

Those with very thick or tightly coiled hair though will probably want to skip this trend. Because reverse-washing essentially is shampooing the conditioner off the hair, this might take away too much moisture this hair type needs.

That said, it’s all about experimenting with what your hair and scalp need on any given day. Who knows, maybe reverse washing may just be your new go-to hair cleansing technique.

Meet The Butterfly Cut, ‘The Rachel’ Haircut’s More Wearable Cousin https://www.suggest.com/butterfly-haircut-long-layers/2694231/ Wed, 30 Nov 2022 12:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2694231 Two different women with butterfly haircuts

When the iconic ‘Rachel’ haircut worn by Jennifer Aniston first debuted on Friends in 1994, no one knew what to do with themselves. The choppy, layered ‘do effectively took over the world—at least, the haircare world. Celebs and TV fans all flocked to their hairdressers, looking to achieve the same bouncy, girl-next-door-chic hairstyle.

But Jennifer Aniston? Well, she was far less of a fan. The actress has told numerous news outlets that she found the iconic cut “cringey,” “horrible,” and “high maintenance.” When asked on the Kyle and Jackie O Show if she would rather wear the Rachel for the rest of her life or shave her head once, the star quickly opted for the latter.

And unless you have a hairstylist like Chris McMillan (who Aniston said she needed “attached to the hip” just to achieve the look herself), a high-maintenance cut like the Rachel probably isn’t a feasible option.

Luckily, we can keep the Rachel back in 1994 because its cousin, the” butterfly cut,” is here to stay—and she’s more versatile, wearable, and chic.

Meet The Butterfly Cut

According to L’Oreal’s Hair.com, the butterfly cut was first coined by celebrity stylist Sunnie Brook. The butterfly cut features lots of feathery layers, with the shortest falling about two to three inches below the chin. The longer layers, on the other hand, typically fall just below the shoulder.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING: This All-Natural Supplement Restored Moisture And Strength To My Dry, Brittle Strands

Brook told Hair.com that the varied layers allow its wearer to switch between long and short hairstyles. That way, Brook says, you can experiment with shorter styles like bobs and shags without fully committing to chopping all your hair off. These layers typically look best on wavy or curly hair because the hair’s pattern naturally disguises the edges of the layers.

That’s part of what made the Rachel such a headache, explained McMillan to The Telegraph in 2016. “It was an easy cut, but it needed regular trims to keep the layers looking sharp.” With the butterfly cut, the layers have room to grow out without changing the overall look.

Is The Butterfly Cut Right For You?

It’s important to remember that the butterfly cut is low maintenance, not no maintenance. Ideally, the 1970s-esque feathered look would add movement, shape, and body to most hair types. But the look might not translate well with tightly coiled or very fine hair. Cowlicks could also pose a problem with the way the layers settle.

So it’s important to talk to your hairdresser before committing to a chop. If they respond to your request for a butterfly cut with a quizzical expression (not everyone’s on TikTok, okay?), you can also tell them you’d like short, wispy layers at the crown and around your face. A good hairdresser should be able to layer the rest of your locks from there.

And luckily, if your hair turns out to be a good candidate for this type of cut, styling can be as simple as adding texturizing spray (Julia Roberts and lots of Suggest readers love this volumizing spray from Serge Norman), tousling your locks, and voila. You’ll have bouncy, voluminous hair with feathery wisps that almost look like butterfly wings. It’s no Rachel, but after hearing Jen’s take on that, maybe that’s a good thing.

This Haircut Could Be The Key To Instantly Making Your Hair Look Thicker https://www.suggest.com/u-shaped-haircut-thicker-hair/2691449/ Mon, 21 Nov 2022 12:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2691449

If you have fine hair, you’re likely well-acquainted with the struggle of trying anything to achieve the illusion of thicker strands. From serums to shampoos to texture sprays, there are countless products that tout their ability to give the appearance of full, voluminous hair.

But what if a specific haircut could do much of the heavy lifting for you? Stylists now say that the secret to faking the appearance of maximum volume is asking for a U-shaped haircut.

As the name suggests, a U-shaped haircut is when the back and sides of the hair are cut in a softer, more rounded fashion such that the back of your hair looks like a “U.” This is quite the departure from other popular trends that feature extreme angles and sharper points like modern mullets and V-cuts.

But it seems as though soft silhouettes and natural textures are starting to trend again, which is great news for those with fine hair. This subtle difference in hairstyle can have a big impact on making hair appear fuller.

When you go to the salon, you should ask your stylist for a U-shaped haircut in the back (lightly cut layers with a slight curve) and shorter sides to frame your face. The layers should be subtle, not chunky, and they should blend seamlessly into your hair. This textured cut with its soft layers will add movement, which creates the appearance of thicker hair while reducing weight.

RELATED: 5 Volumizing Hair Cuts Perfect For Those With Thin, Fine Hair

If you think this haircut is only for long hair, you’re mistaken! It’s actually fantastic for shorter hair too, because it will bring more attention to your jawline. So if you’re going for a short bob, you can still get the U-shape. For additional face framing, you can opt for some bottleneck or curtain bangs.

We should warn you not to try this at home. Though it might look easy enough, this is a very technical cut that requires a professional. This is also a cut that will need to be maintained with more frequent salon visits to keep the shape intact.

When styling at home, use a blow-dryer and round brush to create extra volume. For even more oomph, add some density serum or use a texture spray.

Root Clipping Is The Easy, Heatless Way To Add Extra Volume To Your Mane https://www.suggest.com/how-to-root-clipping-hair-volume/2686699/ Sat, 05 Nov 2022 20:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2686699 a woman looks in the mirror and brushes her long straight gray hair

If you want to add volume to your hair (I mean, who doesn’t!?) there’s a simple and unexpected technique that’s making the viral rounds. It doesn’t involve hairspray (like the one vetted by Julia Roberts), and it’s not a shampooing technique, nor a no-poo product.

It’s called root clipping, and it’s a heatless hair trend that thankfully also does not involve cutting your hair. It’s probably already taking over your scroll, and it might be what you need to get that extra boost, especially if you have curly or wavy hair.

What Is Root Clipping?

Root clipping involves placing hair clips, either metal or plastic, at the base of your scalp just after washing on. Simply add the clips to damp strands and let the hair dry.

RELATED: Brooke Shields Loves This Instant Volumizing Spray That Has Been A Celeb Hairstyling Secret For Years

For best results, social media devotees advise using metal clips on fine hair, and plastic ones on thicker hair. Metal clips have a gentler grip, whereas the plastic versions are stronger and can hold thicker and more textured hair. Use a volumizing spray on the roots before attaching each clip close to the scalp.

To achieve max volume, avoid heavy creams or other hair products near the roots—they can weigh the hair down. Let the hair air dry in the clips, or if you’re pressed for time, use a hair dryer on the “cool” setting to speed the process along.

Should You Try Root Clipping?

This technique is best for curly and wavy hair, but it’s worth a shot for those with straight hair. It may not give mega-volume for those with straight hair—you might need a blowout for that. But it will likely have some effect, plus it’s basically free minus the cost of clips.

When removing the clips, be super gentle. Yanking on them could cause breakage or frizz. Also note that the more clips you use, the more volume you will likely achieve.

Avoid root clipping if you have an irritated or inflamed scalp. The clips could pull on and irritate the scalp. Otherwise, root clipping is fair game for most. We’re up for any hair trend that gives our hair a break from heat damage and adds volume.

This All-Natural Supplement Restored Moisture And Strength To My Dry, Brittle Strands https://www.suggest.com/hairtamin-advanced-formula-supplement-review/2687456/ Sat, 05 Nov 2022 18:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2687456 HAIRtamin bottle with supplement ingredients around it

My hair and I have a long, complicated, chemical-filled history. In my younger years, I cycled through various methods of damaging my hair: heat, high and tight hairstyles, lack of moisture, chemicals, bleach—you name it, I probably did it.

It’s been years since I’ve put a drop of box dye on my head, but my hair hasn’t completely forgiven me yet. Despite this (and only using heat tools every few months), my locks have been getting thinner, unrulier, and harder to manage.

So, when I first heard about HAIRtamin, I was willing to try it out. I had tried other formulas, drugstore finds mainly, with little results. HAIRtamin’s all-natural formula was enough to convince me to give it a go.

An All-Natural, Cruelty-Free Formula

First, let’s discuss the most important thing: what, exactly, HAIRtamin is. Sure, it’s a supplement in pill form—but what’s in it? As ironic as it sounds coming from a woman who tried to bleach her own hair multiple times (look, I learned, okay?), it’s important for me to know what ingredients I’m putting in my body.

RELATED: This $10 Hair Growth Trick Isn’t Just A Viral Trend, But Science Backed

So, I was pleasantly surprised to find that HAIRtamin’s formula is all-natural and vegan. Every ingredient listed on the bottle is one I can actually identify: aloe vera, turmeric, black pepper, rosemary, lutein, and more. Its powerhouse ingredients include biotin, vitamins C and D3, and zinc.

Moreover, HAIRtamin’s supplements are non-GMO and contain no allergens, binders, parabens, or preservatives. All things considered, HAIRtamin was already looking better than the foreign substance-filled supplements I’ve tried in the past.

My Experience With HAIRtamin

HAIRtamin’s Advanced Formula claims to help support stronger, longer, thicker-looking hair from the inside out. It not only aims to promote existing hair growth, but it also helps increase follicle strength for healthier-looking, more beautiful hair.

Full disclosure: I’ve never struggled in the length department. As of right now, my hair stretches down to just above my hips. However, it’s gotten thin, weak, and falls out easily while showering or brushing my hair. While I can’t speak to HAIRtamin’s ability to produce dramatically visible length, I’ve been happy with my results thus far.

I’ve been taking HAIRtamin for just under a month, which is a relatively short duration. HAIRtamin’s website and testimonials state that results are most visible after 60 days of regular use. Still, I’ve noticed tangible differences in my hair even after a few weeks.

Strength, Shine, And Silky Smoothness

HAIRtamin ingredient list and description
(HAIRtamin)

Most noticeably, I’ve seen an increase in my hair’s strength and shine. I normally pull an alarming number of loose strands out of my hair when I’m rinsing out my shampoo and conditioner. But that number seems to be decreasing. Just last night, I went to do my usual pull-through before stepping out of the shower and was surprised to find only one or two strands came out.

I also work from home, which means I spend an excessive amount of time on video chats trying not to peer at myself in the bottom corner of my screen. Of course, I inevitably fail, but in my subtle peeks at myself, I noticed my hair catching the light of the window in front of me more than ever. My normally brunette hair almost looks blonde from the sheen when my hair catches the light at the right angle.

Additionally, I’ve found my hair to be more manageable than it was before I started taking HAIRtamin. Could this also be partially due to my increased water intake and new hair-in-sock overnight method? Maybe—but I feel like the HAIRtamin supplements are helping move the process along faster.

Is HAIRtamin Right For You?

Overall, I’m pleased with what HAIRtamin has delivered thus far and look forward to the results getting even better with time. The pill is moderately sized with a slightly minty scent and flavor that hides the less-appealing odor of some multivitamins. I take it with my lunch at midday and haven’t noticed any stomach sensitivities or other GI issues.

HAIRtamin’s Advanced Formula can be used on all hair types and textures and all genders. However, its website does warn of a potential link between biotin and inaccurate blood lab results published by the FDA. This connection seems avoidable by stopping your biotin treatment at least eight hours before your lab work.

This herbal supplement is also safe for breastfeeding or pregnant individuals, though HAIRtamin recommends consulting your doctor first. Because HAIRtamin contains no drugs or hormones, there are no adverse reactions if you stop taking supplements.

HAIRtamin is an all-natural formula that has helped restore my hair’s shine and strength. I can actually run my fingers through my hair without fear of taking a chunk of tresses along with it, and I’m looking forward to seeing what gains I make in the growth department with continued use.

Julia Roberts Credits This Instant Volumizing Spray For Giving Her Camera-Ready Confidence https://www.suggest.com/julia-roberts-serge-normant-hair-spray/2685845/ Sat, 29 Oct 2022 16:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2685845 Close-up of Julia Roberts smiling with wavy hair

Those of us with thin, limp, listless hair have been jealous of Julia Roberts’ voluptuous, bouncy hair for decades.

From her major hair reveal in Pretty Woman to her cascading wedding up-do in Steel Magnolias we’ve watched on in envy. And those curls in Mystic Pizza, forget about it!

She’s tried out tons of different hairstyles, but her hair looks the best (in my humble opinion) when it’s got some oomph. The hair, coupled with that smile, and that enormous amount of talent just seems unfair.

RELATED: Recreate Julia Roberts’ Voluminous Waves With This One Simple Tool

However, she recently let us in on a secret. She shared her favorite texturizing spray in a post on Instagram. According to her caption, the spray was giving her some major confidence (and volume) before an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

This texturizing spray is loved by other celebs too, likely because it was created by celebrated celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant. Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele Bundchen, and Cindy Crawford are a few of his other A-list clients.

The texturizing spray is part of Serge Normant’s Dream Big Collection which also includes a shampoo, conditioner, and volumizing mousse.

The award-winning volumizing spray is formulated with white lupine protein and zeolite minerals giving it a lightweight feel. Best for a touseled, undone look, the volumizing spray is made especially for those with thinning and dry hair.

In Robert’s Instagram post, eagle-eyed fans spotted a smaller red bottle next to the blue volumizing spray. The Serge Normant Finishing Hair Oil nourishes and smooths the hair, especially hair that’s on the drier side. Spray onto the hair after using the volumizing spray.

Normant is a big fan of the undone style, so much so that he did Megan Markle’s wedding hair in a sophisticated, and somewhat controlled “messy” bun.

To get a tousled but controlled look like Roberts or Markle, Normant’s volumizing spray will give a touchable hold and immediate volume and texture. Lightly scented with ylang-ylang, jasmine, and amber, Serge Normant’s Volumizing Spray is paraben-free, cruelty-free, and majorly hydrating.

One Amazon customer said, “I love that this spray is lightweight and holds my waves without frizz in the humidity. So many others leave my hair feeling stiff, but Dream Big enhanced the texture of my natural waves and felt smooth, with a scent, too.”

Dark hair can be an important marker of Latina identity, so it’s not surprising that Hispanic silver-hair influencers can be difficult to find.

But back in the mid 2010s, celebrity stylist Cynthia Alvarez underwent her own gray-hair transformation, and similarly transformed Orange Is The New Black star and fellow Latina Dascha Polanco.

Thus launched a trend that we’re still feeling the effects of today. While these young women were playing with the idea of gray hair and spending hours in the chair to achieve it, others pondered liberation from the chair and embracing their true selves by ditching the dye and rocking their whites.

We’re celebrating five beautiful Hispanic silver sisters who chose that path. They’re a group of pro-age women embracing their silver locks, going against cultural norms, and finding more joy with every inch of gray hair that grows in.

1. Heren Mercedes

It can be challenging to embrace silver, but Heren Mercedes aims to inspire, encourage, support, and help women cherish their curly natural silver tresses. She’s doing that and then some—one of her most recent gigs was as a hair model for Stacy London’s State Of Menopause recently-released hair products.

2. Sonia Valencia

Sonia Valencia is an over-40 beauty influencer who went viral on TikTok with her concealer hack video. She values setting her own beauty standards and loves the feeling of freedom she experiences after transitioning to her naturally beautiful silver hair.

3. Shannon

Insta-famous Shannon is a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer with Caribbean roots. She’s a wife and mother who chronicles her journey to silver, helping other women embrace their true selves and celebrate life to its fullest.

4. Mireya Olmos

Mireya Olmos is a plus-size, silver-haired Latina model who believes beauty transcends age.

5. Carla Martin

Carla Martin is a Mexican silver-hair influencer who has perfect long layers and shares easy hairstyle and haircare tips and tricks.

These women are inspiring examples of how liberating it can be to embrace the beauty that comes with growing older. Next time you ponder covering your grays, remember them—it could save you thousands of dollars and countless hours spent at the salon.

This $10 Hair Growth Trick Isn’t Just A Viral Trend, But Science Backed https://www.suggest.com/rosemary-oil-hair-growth-research-how-to-use/2683152/ Fri, 21 Oct 2022 20:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2683152 A woman playing with her hair smiling in the mirror

During midlife, fluctuating hormones can cause numerous symptoms, hair loss being one of them. Hair loss can lead to lower self-esteem triggering anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Luckily there is an overabundance of products and tricks that address hair loss for women.

But there’s also a significant question that concerns many women: Are these treatments effective and safe? While minoxidil is the only FDA-approved hair loss treatment for female pattern hair loss, there are other products that preliminary studies look promising for.

In particular, rosemary oil has become popular on social media as many claim it can help stop hair loss and even help with regrowth. It might also be safer than other options, and it has the science to back it.

Rosemary Oil And Hair: A Look At The Science

The interest in using rosemary oil for hair loss is due to some of its main properties, namely that it’s an anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant. This is thought to promote favorable conditions for hair growth, and the initial research here looks promising.

RELATED: Ricki Lake Shares The Products That Made The Amazing Difference In Her 30-Year Hair Loss Struggle

A study from 2015 found that rosemary oil performed comparatively to minoxidil in increasing hair count after six months of use for those suffering from androgenetic alopecia. And while both treatments caused some scalp itching, rosemary oil was found to be less irritating to the scalp than minoxidil.

Another study from 2013 saw promising results of using rosemary oil to promote hair growth, albeit that study was in mice.

Moreover, research has shown rosemary oil can also be used to boost your mood and reduce anxiety. And given that stress can be a factor in hair loss, this is just another promising checkmark in rosemary oil’s box.

How To Incorporate Rosemary Oil Into Your Hair Care Routine

There are several ways to add rosemary oil to your everyday beauty regimen. How you use it, as well as how often, depends on your preference and daily routine. Generally, it is safe to use rosemary oil topically daily.

1. Mix With Your Shampoo Or Conditioner

If you have oily hair, this might be the best option for you. While showering, mix a few drops in with either your shampoo or conditioner and apply as normal, focusing application on the scalp. We recommend adding it to your daily conditioner or weekly hair mask and letting it sit for the remainder of your shower for the best results.

2. Apply Directly To Your Scalp

If using pure rosemary oil, it’s generally recommended to mix a few drops into a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil. Gently massage into your scalp, and for extra hair benefits, comb through to the ends. You can leave it and style as normal, or rinse after. If rinsing, try to leave the mixture on for at least 10 minutes.

Some products on the market incorporate rosemary oil with other ingredients that are thought to promote scalp and hair health. If you’re in the market, here are some highly-rated options on Amazon.

Mielle Organics’ Rosemary Mint Hair Oil is infused with biotin along with over 30 essential oils and nutrients. The blend promises to smooth split ends, soothe the scalp, and encourage hair growth. As a Suggest editor can attest to, the oil has a light mint scent and invigorating feel on the scalp. Safe for all hair types, we also love that Mielle Organics is a woman-founded brand that is focused on natural, affordable products.

This dermatologist-tested oil uses a blend of rosemary, nettle, and peppermint oil to encourage hair growth and help prevent hair thinning. Free of mineral oil, sulfate, and parabens, this all-natural blend is designed to be an overnight treatment that can be used daily. The brand promises that within three to six months, reduced shedding and hair growth will be noticeable.

If you’re looking for pure rosemary oil, this highly-rated option from Maple Holistics is worthy of consideration. Create your own custom blend with a carrier oil and other essential oils, or simply mix it into your shampoo or conditioner. As another bonus, you can use this essential oil in a diffuser to aid in relaxation and hopefully stress reduction.

Your Go-To Hairstyle May Be Damaging Your Hair, Even If It’s Heatless https://www.suggest.com/damaging-hairstyles/2680165/ Thu, 20 Oct 2022 21:25:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2680165

Haircare is a tricky thing. It feels like there are a million rules to follow to keep your tresses in tip-top shape—using the right products, washing often but not too often, refraining from using too much heat, etc. It’s a lot to keep track of. But you may be overlooking one insidious thing that could be causing serious hair damage: your everyday hairstyle.

As we age, the bonds between our hair strands decrease, weakening our hair overall. As the hair grows weaker and loses its elasticity, it’s much more susceptible to breakage. So it’s crucial to be mindful of the tension and pressure we’re putting on our hair every day to keep it looking its best.

RELATED: Here’s How Your Hair’s DNA Affects Your Strands As You Age And How To Slow Down The Process

We’re not saying you have to cut any of these hairstyles completely out of your routine, but moderation is key. Remember to give your hair time to relax. With that said, here are five styles that may be secretly harming your hair.

1. Ponytails And Top Knots

Your standby quick hairstyles are some of the worst culprits for causing long-term hair damage. Wearing these styles day after day will add stress at the base of your ponytail or bun, which will eventually cause hair to break. Tight elastic hair ties can also lead to fraying. High, tight ponytails are the worst offenders, as they pull extra hard on the fine strands of your hairline.

Try This Instead: Try using knotted fabric hair ties or silk scrunchies to pull your hair back, and be sure not to pull on your hair too tightly when putting it up. You could also opt for a headband or simply a lower ponytail.

RELATED: Jennifer Garner Reveals How She Repairs Hair Damage Caused By Go-To Ponytail

2. Teasing

Anyone who lived through the ’80s is probably guilty of this one. Teasing is a great trick for creating lift, but it can do a real number on your hair. Backcombing essentially consists of creating tangles and knots to add volume, so it’s not hard to understand why it can be harsh on your hair.

Try This Instead: Use a volumizing mousse or other thickening product instead (we like this thickening and texturizing mousse from Keranique). For extra volume, you can blow dry your hair upside down or with a round brush after applying the product. Just be sure to use a low heat setting and apply some heat protectant beforehand (like this blow-dry spray from L’Oréal).

3. Styling While Wet

It’s so easy to mindlessly throw your hair into a ponytail or bun after a shower, but doing so can cause hair thinning or even loss. As you now know, buns and ponytails already put stress on your strands. Hair is at its most vulnerable and prone to breakage when wet, which further amps up that stress. If you’ve ever taken your hair down from a wet updo and noticed a clump of hair still attached to your hair tie, you’ll see what we mean.

Try This Instead: Let your hair air dry, dry with a microfiber towel, or blow dry on low heat (remember: heat protectant!) before putting your hair up.

4. Braids

Unfortunately, one of our favorite hairstyles is also one that can cause serious hair damage when not done properly. When braids are too tight, especially near the hairline, it can put so much strain on your roots that it starts to break away. This can cause splitting, follicle damage, and tensile stress, which can eventually even lead to hair loss conditions like traction alopecia.

Try This Instead: Simply braid your hair more loosely, especially at the scalp. It’s also important to take breaks from wearing braids and to keep your scalp moisturized. Remember, if wearing braids makes your scalp sore, your braids are too tight.

5. High-Tension Overnight Styles

Sleeping with your hair in a tight bun or braid while you sleep is a common way of extending time between wash days, but you should reconsider the type of protective style you’re putting your hair in before bedtime. When hair is rubbing against a pillow while pulled taut, it can cause friction, tugging, and tangling.

Try This Instead: Wear your hair in a tension-free protective hairstyle, like a loose braid or bun. You could also cover your hair in a silk bonnet. Even better, you can avoid causing friction by sleeping on a silk pillowcase.

Next to a new hairstyle, a salon blowout can feel like the best beauty transformation. There’s nothing like it for achieving voluminous and glossy locks. It’s a luxury when a professional does it, but it’s tough, and sometimes exhausting (or impossible), to get the same results at home.

Luckily, we recently discovered a tool that can help out when you don’t have the time or funds for a salon blowout. It dries and styles your hair simultaneously, so in addition to achieving that fresh-from-the-salon look, you’ll save time and expose your hair to less heat.

Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0 Hot Air BrushThe Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus hair dryer is pro-stylist approved as an economical way to get an at-home blowout. And today it’s even more economical thanks to the Amazon Prime Early Access Sale.

The head of the brush on the “plus” version is more compact than the original design, and it’s removable for easy storage. The barrel is made of ceramic, titanium, and tourmaline, which are great for making hair sleek. And the charcoal-activated bristles help maintain hair freshness.

Several reviewers praised the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0 Hot Air BrushThe Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus calling it a bargain and a game changer. Best of all, you can score this must-have tool for a great price during Amazon’s Early Access Prime Sale through October 12.

“For less than the price of ONE salon blowout, this hair styler/dryer allows me to blow dry my own hair in less than 10 minutes,” writes one reviewer.

In another review, a customer shares that the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0 Hot Air BrushThe Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus has cut their styling time in half. “After using this, I do not need to use a flat iron or curling iron. My hair looks fantastic and my styling time has been cut down. Using one tool is fabulous! I absolutely love this product!”

And if you don’t have to follow up your blow dry with another hot tool, your hair will thank you.

“This thing is magic. I was extremely skeptical about it as I have very thick, curly hair. I normally have to blow dry my hair then flat iron it. Not with this! It takes less time to dry my hair and no flat iron needed,” one customer writes. “I swear it’s like a salon blowout. I’m so excited to use this from now on. For the price and results, totally worth it! BUY IT NOW!”

To top it all off, it’s pretty cute in black, teal, or mint.

This Cult-Favorite Hair Care Brand And Gold Standard For Repairing Serious Damage Is Now On Mega Sale https://www.suggest.com/olaplex-amazon-prime-access-deals-roundup/2715216/ Wed, 12 Oct 2022 11:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/olaplex-amazon-prime-access-deals-roundup/2715216/ Line-up of Olaplex products

Avoiding hair damage is like eating more veggies or spending less time scrolling. In a perfect world, we’d commit to these beneficial goals wholeheartedly. But a perfect world this is not, and life has a funny way of getting in the way of our best intentions.

So many factors cause hair damage—from pool (or bad shampoo) chemicals to heat styling to nutrient deficiencies to water hardness, our hair is up against a lot. Thank goodness cult-favorite haircare brand Olaplex can help fortify our strands.

There’s a reason this hair care line has become the gold standard for seriously damaged strands. And whether you’re an Olaplex convert or a skeptical first-time user, Amazon’s Prime Access Day deals on this well-loved brand are hard to beat.

First-time skeptics, let’s start with you. If you’re new to the Olaplex bandwagon (no judgment), the No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask is a great place to start. The No. 8 Intense Moisture Mask won the 2022 Glamour Beauty Award Winner, and here’s why.

Olaplex works to repair disulfide bonds, which give hair its structure, strength, and stability. Hair damage occurs when those bonds are broken. Olaplex’s patented single ingredient, bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, restores disulfide bonds.

Hair Mask No. 8 is not a conditioner, it’s a weekly at-home treatment that reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving both look and feel. According to an independent clinical study, Olaplex’s Hair Mask users saw 2x more shine, 4x more moisture, 6x more smoothness, and 94% more overall body after regular use.

If the results from No. 8 are enough to sway you, consider incorporating Olaplex into your regular hair routine in more ways than one. Many drugstore shampoos (even the ‘natural’ ones) can do more damage than good to your locks.

Olaplex’sBond Maintenance shampoo, on the other hand, offers intense moisture and bond repair to dry, damaged tresses. This shampoo is suitable for all hair types, eliminating frizz and flyaways while reducing and preventing future breakage.

The shampoo is non-toxic and sulfate-, paraben-, gluten-, and nut-free. It’s also vegan and color-safe. You can use the No. 4 shampoo as often or as little as your regular washing routine requires. A pea-sized amount goes a long way, stretching your buck even further.

When the No. 4 shampoo is used in tandem with the No. 5 conditioner, the results are even better. Like the No. 4, Olaplex’s No. 5 conditioner contains the brand’s patented ingredient and no sulfates or parabens. It’s safe for all hair types, including color-treated.

Split ends and breakage make it nearly impossible to grow (or regrow) hair. This type of damage can literally reverse your progress, breaking off hair completely and reducing length. If you’re struggling to grow your hair, using a bond-repairing product like Olaplex No. 5 can significantly help.

Bond Maintenance No. 5 won Allure’s 2022 Reader’s Choice Award, thanks to its revolutionary, long-lasting results. As one happy customer reports, “My hair [felt] like straw. I’ve never spent $30 for a bottle of conditioner, but I will continue to buy this. Legit made my hair feel like pure silk the second it made contact with my rough hair.”

Life doesn’t slow down just because your hair has suffered a little (or a lot of) damage. Sometimes, hair styling is an unavoidable part of your daily routine, particularly if it’s for work. Olaplex has got you covered then, too.

The Olaplex formula’s magic doesn’t happen overnight, which means that you could still be dealing with frizz and flyaways (a.k.a. visible breakage) while you treat your hair. The No. 6 Bond Smoother is a leave-in styling treatment that visibly reduces frizz and flyaways for up to 72 hours.

RELATED: Amazon Secret High-End Fashion Brand Is Featuring Major Sales During Amazon Prime Access Days

So, whether you’re in between wash days or are looking for a lightweight product to tame frizz while still going easy on your hair, the No. 6 Bond Smoother can help. For best results, Olaplex recommends using the No. 6 in tandem with the No. 3 treatment.

Olaplex might be a little more expensive than your drugstore go-to, but sometimes that old adage “you get what you pay for” is true. And thanks to Amazon’s Prime Access deals, you can try out (or stock up on) this cult favorite for less. Hair that looks like a million bucks without spending as much? We’ll take it.

“Wow is right. I’ve tried several root touch-up products and this one is definitely my favorite. It goes on easily, it stays well, and it looks natural. It doesn’t leave a stiff or sticky residue…very pleased with this root concealer,” one reviewer wrote.

“Applying it is super easy. It covers the gray beautifully…It doesn’t smudge all over everything else. It’s a great, quick cheat for covering up gray in a hurry (and temporarily),” another shared.

“Wonderful product. Does not irritate my sensitive scalp. Is great to camouflage thinning hairline where you see [the] scalp,” noted another.

Color Wow Root Cover-Up is already at a good price point. But, it’s on sale for a limited time and would be a fantastic buy during Amazon’s Early Access Prime Sale on October 11 and 12.

Ricki Lake Shares The Products That Made The Amazing Difference In Her 30-Year Hair Loss Struggle https://www.suggest.com/ricki-lake-hair-journey-harklinikken/2679148/ Mon, 03 Oct 2022 20:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2679148 Before and after photos Ricki Lake posted to Instagram showing her hair growth

More than half of all women experience hair loss at some point in their lives. That said, female pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in women. It is generally caused by hormones, aging, or genetics.

A loss of hair can cause a cascade of negative emotions, such as stress, anxiety, and even depression. In Google search results, ’causes of women’s hair loss’ has hit the top fourth spot among women over 40.

Despite being a silent pandemic for most, many celebrities, such as Alyssa Milano and Jada Pinkett Smith, have spoken out on the matter, building awareness and support for the various conditions that can cause hair loss.

Ricki Lake, an Emmy award-winning talk show host, recently shared powerful before and after photos of her hair loss on Instagram. Furthermore, she discusses how she has fought back with what she calls a simple and easy protocol.

Lake had been struggling with thinning hair for 30 years. The TV host claimed a number of factors left her strands weak and shedding, including hormonal changes from pregnancies and birth control, unhealthy dieting practices, and plain ol’ stress.

As is the struggle for many, Lake spent years experimenting with various products and treatments to reverse her thinning locks. From steriod shots to hiding her condition with extensions, she left no stone unturned. The constant testing and dissapointment took its toll, though, and Lake had resided herself not having the luscious, healthy hair of her dreams.

That all changed one New Year’s Day. With a renewed vigor of taking control of her own confidence, Lake shaved her head and posted an empowering message of self acceptance on Instagram. As luck would have it, it was not much longer that she discovered Harklinikken and embraked on a hair growth journey that actually worked for her.

Lake’s Holy Grail For Hair Growth

Beyond Ricki Lake, Harklinikken has been hailed by many as a game changer when it comes to hair growth. So, what sets it apart from the rest?

Harklinikken simply means “hair clinic” in Danish, and like its name, it specializes in customized hair restoration treatments. It was first founded in 1992 by Lars Skjoth in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Harklinikken differs in that it embraces diversity. Harklinikken notes that ethnic and environment-based differences in hair and scalps exist, including climate, water, nutrition, and many other factors. Thus, their extract is completely customized to the hair needs of each client. Clean products are also a must, so several toxins are avoided, such as colorants, perfumes, essential oils, and parabens.

By focusing on specific hair and scalp needs, the Harklinikken systems may help you on your journey to vibrant, healthy, and beautiful hair. In order to achieve optimal results, they recommend getting a personal hair assessment before you begin.

In a recent Instagram post, Lake wrote, “I am confident that my Harklinikken treatment regimen works so effectively because it’s customized to my specific hair and scalp needs.”

For now, check out some of the Harklinkken products Lake attributes to her amazing success!

Lake credits Harklinikken’s uniquely customized extract for making the biggest difference in her hair growth journey. As the cornerstone to Harklinikken’s treatment plan, each formulation is designed for the clients’ unqiue needs and is even optimized over the course of treatment. To find the right extract for you, Harklinkken makes its easy to take a hair assessment online or book an inperson or online consultation.

Along with the extract, Lake uses Harklinikken’s Balancing Shampoo. The mild, unscented shampoo is designed to provide a deep clean without irritating the scalp. Mustard seed oil and organic oats are key ingredients in helping to reduce breakage and split ends.

Lake follows up her shampooing with Harklinikken’s Daily Conditioner. Avocado oil and aloe vera help to leave strands hydrated without weighing them down. Designed for daily use, the lightweight formula focuses on improving hair’s elasticity and smoothness, making it much more manageable post-shower.

The last step in Lake’s routine is Harklinikken’s Leave-In Hair Hydrating Crème. Similar to the conditioner, the lightweight cream is designed to aid against breakage by improving hair’s elasticity. Adding touchable shine, the multi-tasking cream also acts as a heat protectant and can be used in both damp and dry hair.

If you’re interested in trying Ricki Lake’s go-to products, Amazon offers a bundle of the Balacing Shampoo, Daily Conditioner, and Hyrdating Crème. Dubbed the Essentials Kit, you’ll receive full size versions of all three products at a 15% savings.

‘Jellyfish Hair’ Is Trending And It’s Like A Mullet On Steroids https://www.suggest.com/jellyfish-hair-trend/2678162/ Tue, 27 Sep 2022 20:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2678162 Two examples of the jellyfish haircut

Shags and mullet-inspired hair have been having a moment lately. Billie Eilish and Miley Cyrus popularized the wolf haircut—a combination of a shag, bob, and mullet. Then there’s the shullet, which as the name suggests is a mash-up of the classic ’70s shag and the ’80s mullet.

Now, there’s a new mullet-esque style that’s been trending all over social media, and it’s absolutely out of this world. It has elements of the hime haircut—aka the anime cut—that took over the internet last year. That popular style originated in Japan and consists of straight, cheek-length side-locks and frontal fringe while the rest of the hair is worn straight and long.

RELATED: Cardi B Praises Onion Water For Healthy, Shiny Hair And It Turns Out, The Sciene Is There

This latest trend is called jellyfish hair, and it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

Most hairstyle trend comes from social media these days, and that is definitely the case with jellyfish hair. Described as a little bit mullet and a little bit hime, this new style is making its mark in the beauty world after becoming a popular countercultural style in places like Tokyo, London, and Taiwan.

So, what exactly is jellyfish hair? It’s exactly as it sounds—a multi-layered, blunt hairstyle that looks like the sea creature it’s named after. The top layers are cut into a 360-degree bob, and you achieve the jellyfish silhouette by leaving the under layer at the nape of the neck extremely long.

The under layer can be worn stick straight, but some people do add some curls. Oftentimes, the jellyfish hairstyle is worn with the under layer dyed a completely different color than the bob for a striking color contrast.

This social media trend made its way into the celebrity world when Nicole Kidman rocked the look on the August 2022 cover of Perfect Magazine. However, her under layer was left much thicker than the images we’ve seen on Instagram and seems more reminiscient of traditional hime cuts.

This trend is obviously not for everyone, but we love the bold colors and edgy style of the women who choose to rock it. Plus, unlike other trendy hairstyles that can be insanely difficult to grow out and can create those extremely awkward hair stages, the jellyfish hairstyle allows you to just cut off the bottom layer when you are tired of the look for an easy transition into a classic bob.

Hair is a creative outlet, and we can’t wait to see what edgy style makes waves next.

Should You Rock Long Or Short Hair? Use Two Pencils To Find Out https://www.suggest.com/2-25-inch-rule-long-short-hair-measurement/2675048/ Mon, 26 Sep 2022 11:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2675048 middle aged woman with gray pixie haircut giving thumbs up

Your haircut and style are matters of personal preference. However, it’s hard to dispute that some people look adorable with short hair and others seem to look better with longer locks.

It can be difficult to know whether or not to take the plunge, as it can so tempting to do a big chop when you’ve had long hair for most of your life. Luckily, a Suggest editor stumbled upon a video that claims all you need are two pencils and a ruler to find out what hair length suits you.

Posted by Act+Acre on Saturday, August 27, 2022

Helen Reavey, hairstylist and trichologist who we recently covered for her genius hair washing hack for extra volume, shared a video showcasing how to measure the bottom half of your face to see what hair length to go with. She used two metal straws, but you could use pencils, pens, or in my case paintbrushes to measure.

Place one pencil pointing down under your ear. Then place the other pencil pointing horizontally underneath your chin. Mark the spot where the horizontal pencil meets the vertical one, then measure from that point to the end of the vertical pencil. If it is under 2.25 inches the rule says that you can rock short hair, but if it’s longer than 2.25 inches, long hair suits your face.

This is the “2.25 rule” coined by the world-renowned hairstylist John Freida. He invented the rule as a fool-proof guide for hairstylists to ensure as flattering of a cut as possible based on the client’s face shape.

RELATED: This Is The Worst Thing You Could Do To Fine, Thin Hair

When I measured my length, to my dismay, mine measured at exactly 3 inches, just like Reavey. In the past, I have had pixie cuts, bobs, and shags but as of now, I’ve settled into a longer style with curtain bangs. And it’s probably my favorite style to date. So the “rule” does kind of make sense.

Celebrities that epitomize this rule include Halle Berry, Michelle Williams, and Katie Holmes with under 2.25-inch measurements. They all look great with shorter hair. While Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Kardashian, and Liv Tyler look the best with long locks.

The Long And Short Of It

However, there is so much to consider when deciding what haircut and style suit you and your lifestyle. Even if you don’t fit the “right measurements” you could love the ease and look of short hair. Hair texture, density, personal style, and face shape are also considerations when thinking about cutting your hair.

Regardless, hair grows back, and if you feel the need to go for a cute bob, lob, or pixie, go for it! Likely no one will be lurking around trying to measure your face.

Cardi B Praises Onion Water For Healthy, Shiny Hair, And It Turns Out The Science Is There https://www.suggest.com/onion-water-juice-healthy-hair-research/2675043/ Fri, 23 Sep 2022 21:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2675043 Cardi B with a shiny updo at a 2019 red carpet event.

Many of us are on the hunt for long, healthy, shiny hair. Beyond the countless products on the shelf, there are many home remedies touted by social media influencers and celebrities. Maybe you’ve heard of the egg hair mask with yogurt or honey to tackle damaged hair. Or, the coffee hair mask to stop hair loss and promote regrowth.

Some of these DIY treatments come with anecdotal evidence of success, but most aren’t backed by science. But Cardi B’s strategy for growing healthy, shiny hair is an exception. The rapper made waves last month by saying she washed her hair with onion water. But does it really work? The science says yes.

Onions might make you cry when slicing them in the kitchen, but when it comes to growing healthy locks, the results could end up putting a big smile on your face. Researchers have found that the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of onions could actually be the secret to healthy, shiny hair.

In a 2018 study published in the Journal of Drug Delivery and Therapeutics, researchers created an onion shampoo that seemingly improved hair growth, moisturized dry hair and the scalp, and provided better nourishment to hair follicles. Another study published in The Journal of Dermatology found that onion juice was a great topical treatment for alopecia.

RELATED: Female Pattern Hair Loss Is Real: A Powerful Solution To This Common Problem In Women

There’s even a possibility that onion water or juice could reverse the process of graying hair. It’s not official peer-reviewed evidence from the scientific community, but many home remedies promise that onions can reduce gray hairs because they contain an antioxidant compound that can reduce hydrogen peroxide at the hair roots.

How To Wash Your Hair With Onion Water

If you want to try this at home, there are several ways to make an onion mixture for your hair. Cardi B says she simply boils onions and uses the water. However, you can go further by making an onion extract with fresh onion bulbs cut into small pieces, a food processor, and muslin cloth.

Then, combine the onion extract (about one to three milliliters) with a small amount of lemon juice and apply it to your hair and scalp three or four times per week. Leave the mixture in for 30 minutes, then rinse and use a mild shampoo to get rid of the onion smell.

Another option is to soak a cotton pad in plain onion juice, then apply it directly by massaging the soaked cotton pad all over your scalp. After 15 minutes, rinse with a mild shampoo.

If you’re not the DIY type, there are a few products on the market that incorporate the power of onion to help promote healthy hair. Some highly rated options on Amazon include WOW Skin Science Red Onion Shampoo & Conditioner set, Mama Earth’s Onion Hair Mask, and Tara Nature’s Onion Remedy Follicle-Stimulating Concentrate. Each of these products advertises strengthening properties, with the mask and concentrate specifically targeting reduced hair shedding.

‘Hair Botox’ Could Be The Fix For Your Dry, Lifeless Locks https://www.suggest.com/hair-botox-to-restore-some-life-in-your-hair/2673472/ Wed, 21 Sep 2022 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2673472 see from back woman with long gray hair and bare shoulder

Hair botox has been around for more than a decade, but it recently became a popular topic on social media and beyond. It’s a technique designed to repair damaged and broken hair fibers using fortifying ingredients including caviar oil, antioxidants, vitamin B5, vitamin E, and collagen complex.

Whether you’ve used the curling iron on high one too many times, your hair is genetically inclined to be dry and prone to split ends, or shifting hormones are taking their toll, stylists swear by these chemical-free (despite the name) conditioning treatments for all hair types.

Other approaches like steaming or switching up your hair brush can also improve hair’s texture and volume. But if you’re looking for a long-lasting method for making your hair seriously fuller, shinier, and smoother, you might want to give “hair botox” a try. And it’s not as scary as it sounds.

Wait, Hair Injections?

Hair botox does not actually involve needles nor does it contain botulinum toxin, which is the chemical that freezes foreheads and smooths crows feet. It’s a bit of a misnomer because hair botox is more of a filler (like, say, Radiesse or Juvederm) than a neurotoxin. Similar to Botox, it smooths, but it does so by filling and plumping rough, damaged hair shafts rather than immobilizing them. Still, hair botox is fun to say, and the name has stuck, so who are we to argue?

RELATED: This Is The Worst Thing You Could Do To Fine, Thin Hair

Several brands make versions of hair botox products, all of which promise to leave your locks more manageable, strong, and soft. The formulations vary, but most are non-toxic and won’t damage your hair.

Is Hair Botox For You?

Unlike keratin treatments, another in-salon smoothing technique, hair botox does not contain formaldehyde or other harsh chemicals, so stylists say it’s safe for virtually all hair types.

At-home kits range from $30-$150; salon treatments start at $150 and can be upwards of $300, depending on your location. The process involves several steps, all of which are crucial for optimal results. But you can buy the products piecemeal, so be sure to closely follow the package instructions. Each treatment will take 2-3 hours to complete.

One popular home kit is the Majestic Hair Botox Treatment, which is available on Amazon.

The Majestic kit includes four bottles: cleanser, treatment, protectant, and sealer. Start the process by washing your hair with the Majestic Clarifying Shampoo. Then blow-dry to about 90% dryness.

Next, apply the Majestic Hair Botox Treatment in sections with a color brush. Let the treatment sit for 50-75 minutes, then lightly rinse. Blow dry the hair completely and flat iron the hair at 450 degrees to seal in the treatment. The real magic happens after the heat application.

The clarifying shampoo gets rid of hard water impurities and deep cleans the scalp, and is an important prep step. The treatment employs collagen, amino acids, and vitamins to fill in and resurface the hair. The sulfate-free shampoo plus the hydrating conditioner will help maintain the results, which should last between two and four months.

This at-home treatment has some serious science behind it. The patented K18 mask renews hair to “nearly virgin” levels of smooth and shiny, whether it’s damaged by bleach, color, chemical services, heat, or all of the above.

Scientists at K18 spent a decade studying the entire hair genome to come up with a unique molecule that’s just the right size and structure to reconnect broken polypeptide chains, which are responsible for hair strength and elasticity.

It works in just 4 minutes and won’t wash away, mimicking the natural building blocks of hair. And this smaller, 15 ml bottle is a nice way to make sure you like the product before going for the larger 50 ml version.

Another popular in-home hair botox treatment is L’Oreal Professional’s Fiberceutic. It contains intra-cylane, a molecule small enough to enter the hair shaft to plump, soften, and reduce frizz. It also helps prevent breakage and split ends.

Hair.com recommends this weekly as a stand-in for the full hair botox regimen if you don’t have 2-3 hours to spare. Infused with argan and camellia oils, it can restore smoothness and sheen in just five to 10 minutes.

This One Simple Change Can Reduce Scalp Build-Up And Increase Hair Volume https://www.suggest.com/upside-down-washing-benefits-review/2674144/ Mon, 19 Sep 2022 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2674144 Woman with long hair upside down

There is no shortage of hair hacks on the internet that promise luscious, voluminous locks. From homemade masks to the infamous no-poo debate, there are hundreds of quick fixes “guaranteeing” the hair of your dreams.

One such trend has recently circulated TikTok, and it made me shift perspective on my current hair routine. Specifically, it flipped it upside down. This technique requires no extra products or tools—just a (literal) position change.

The “upside down hair wash” is exactly what it sounds like: you wash, condition, and style your hair while it’s upside down. Curious but skeptical, I tried it out myself.

The Rationale Behind Going Upside Down

According to the internet, washing your hair upside down has several benefits. It allows you to access parts of your scalp you might miss when shampooing upright, like the base of your neck and behind your ears. This reduces the likelihood of damaging product build-up, resulting in a cleaner, lighter-feeling scalp.

Upside-down washing is also said to improve circulation and blood flow to the scalp, which research shows stimulates hair growth. While I haven’t found any studies specific to upside-down washing, I can get behind it logically: the head goes upside down, blood rushes to the head, ergo, the scalp.

Finally, upside-down washing also promises increased volume. Helen Reavey, a certified trichologist, explains in a reaction video on TikTok: “Do you ever notice when you get this flat patch [at the crown], and you cannot get any volume? That is the water from the shower just beating on your scalp and flattening it.”

So, this one simple fix makes hair cleaner, more voluminous, and even helps it grow faster? That’s a tall order for an upside-down wash, so I tried it out myself.

RELATED: This Is The Worst Thing You Could Do To Fine, Thin Hair

My Upside-Down Experience

First thing’s first: it’s a little unpleasant. I have long, long hair that stops just above my hip bones. Unsurprisingly, upside-down washing means a waterfall in your face. It’s also awkward reaching for products while hunched over and blind, but I proved it’s not impossible.

Despite the water-in-eyes dilemma, I noticed an improvement in how easy it was to reach my whole scalp. Because my hair was dangling freely instead of sticking to me, I could maneuver my strands to get a better scrub.

After I was done shampooing and conditioning, I wrung out my locks and wrapped them in a towel for a few minutes to sop up extra moisture. Then, I unwrapped my hair and resumed my hunched-over position. I added my go-to leave-in conditioner (I love the moisturizing power and delicious scent of this leave-in cream by Carol’s Daughter), gave my tresses a good scrunch, and flipped my head right-side up.

A Surprisingly Effective Hack

I immediately noticed extra volume, even while my hair was still completely wet. My roots had lift that they don’t typically have straight out of the shower. And as my hair air-dried, the volume was more noticeable. Was it bouffant-worthy? Well, no—but considering I had used no volume-specific products, it was pretty impressive.

Additionally, I found my hair stayed cleaner longer. I usually wash my hair two to three times a week, depending on how oily my roots get. After my upside-down wash, I went a full week before my scalp started to get greasy. I’ve been trying to pare down my twice-weekly routine to once a week, and upside-down washing looks like one way to do it.

While I can’t yet speak to the growth aspect of this internet hair hack, the rest of the claims bore out. Note: I’m not sure it’d be a viable option for those without a handheld shower head. But if you have one and don’t mind a little water in your face in exchange for a week of clean, voluminous hair, I’d say this viral hack is worth its weight in likes and shares.

Hair Thinning Or Falling Out? It Could Be A Side Effect Of Menopause https://www.suggest.com/hair-thinning-loss-menopause-side-effect/2673972/ Sat, 17 Sep 2022 13:35:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2673972 Woman holding clump of hair from brush

Hair thinning or loss is a lot like a slow leak—you don’t notice it until it’s already caused significant damage. At that point, it can be difficult to address the root causes and, more importantly, solutions.

And there are so many potential factors that contribute to less-than-lustrous locks. Stress, diet, lifestyle, genetics, hormones—not only can they all contribute to hair loss, but they each require different solutions.

This can make combatting thinning hair feel like an uphill battle. But according to the Cleveland Clinic, more than 50% of women can place most of the blame on one factor: menopause.

How Do Hormones Affect Hair?

Graphic diagram of hair follicle growth stages
(Annakek/Shutterstock.com)

While pregnancy hormones cause hair to grow and thicken, menopause can make it do the opposite: thin or fall out. Both phenomenons are associated with our hormones—specifically estrogen, progesterone, and androgen levels.

Estrogen and progesterone are both linked to hair growth. As these hormone levels decrease during menopause, hair diameter and density shrink. While hair follicles naturally cycle from anagen (growth) to telogen (rest) phases, low estrogen levels cause the follicles to stay in either resting or shedding (exogen) mode.

Meanwhile, estrogen depletion can spur increased production of androgens, which shrink hair follicles on the head and cause more hair to grow on the face. This combination of rising and falling hormone levels causes hair loss on the scalp and hair growth on the jaw, chin, and cheeks.

Menopause is an inevitable part of aging, but hair loss doesn’t have to be. There are solutions to hormone-related hair thinning and loss if you’re willing to commit to a treatment.

Growing Back Hormonal Hair Loss

Not every hair loss treatment is the same, so it’s essential to determine whether your hair loss is hormonal (read: menopause) or caused by an autoimmune disorder like alopecia. Your doctor should be able to help figure this out.

For hormone-specific solutions, Harvard Health Publishing recommends minoxidil, the generic name of Rogaine. It’s a topical solution that stimulates hair growth in roughly six to 12 months. Keranique’s Minoxidil Foam, an unscented, clinically proven 5% minoxidil solution, has great customer feedback on Amazon.

Keranique Minoxidil Foam Hair Regrowth Treatment For Women

  • 5% Minoxidil Topical Aerosal.
  • Targets hair loss at the top of the scalp.
  • Visible results in as little as 12 weeks.
  • Safe to use with other hair growth products.

While minoxidil works, it’s not a quick fix. If you stop using it, you can lose any hair regrowth you’ve gained. For the best, most long-lasting results, make minoxidil part of your daily routine. If you can’t commit to daily treatments, a different solution might be better.

For example, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be a powerful remedy for hormonal hair loss. Anti-androgens block the production of male hormones, which can decrease testosterone-related hair loss.

Some doctors prescribe spironolactone (Aldactone) to restore hair density. Possible side effects include changes in libido or mood, fatigue, and weight gain.

Hair transplantation is another option. This surgical procedure is often not covered by insurance and can range anywhere from $2,000 to $20,000, depending on where you live. But if you have the means and accessibility, it’s an effective way to restore hair density and growth.

Loving Your Hair In All Its Forms

Like wrinkles or sagging skin, hair thinning is a normal part of growing older. Our 50-year-old bodies will never exactly resemble our 20-year-old bodies, and frankly, that’s okay. If you want to use products or medications to combat the changes, go for it.

But you could also try rocking a shorter cut, experimenting with wigs or extensions, or embracing the thin (or bald) hair life. Because at the end of the day, what’s happening on top of your head is far less important than what’s happening inside of it.

If you do choose to combat menopausal hair loss, make sure your solutions address the root cause for noticeable, long-lasting improvements.

Jennifer Aniston’s Stylist Swears This Brush ‘Always Delivers’ For Her Signature Blowout https://www.suggest.com/chris-mcmillan-jennifer-aniston-stylist-blowout-secrets/2672075/ Fri, 09 Sep 2022 15:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2672075 Jennifer Aniston at a red carpet event sporting her signature blowout.

There are probably many thoughts that come to mind when thinking about the ever-talented and graceful Jennifer Aniston. Undoubtedly, her gorgeous head of hair is near the top of the list.

Starting with her signature style “The Rachel” on Friends, Aniston has endured as a hair icon, whether she’s rocking her natural waves or touting her new hair care line Lolavie.

Probably most iconic of all of Aniston’s looks is her signature blowout—shiny, voluminous, and just the right amount of curl. And thanks to social media, we now know the secret behind the look.

Recently, her longtime friend and hairstylist Chris McMillian shared a post where he graciously gives us a step-by-step guide to creating the perfect blowout, and it’s largely thanks to this one highly-rated brush.

McMillian shared a few surprising tips to creating Aniston’s signature ‘do, one of which being that he typically doesn’t use product so that blowout lasts longer. Rather, the style is created mainly by drying freshly washed, towel-dried hair in small sections. He also noted the importance of over-directing the hair, giving extra attention to the roots, and using this specific brush he claims “always delivers.”

RELATED: Jennifer Aniston Breaks These Common Shampooing And Conditioning Hair Myths

The hairbrush in question is the Ibiza Boar Hairbrush B5. The ergonomic round brush is gentle on hair and particularly good for color-treated or fine hair.

The boar bristle hairbrush helps create the loose waves and volume that blowouts are known for. The flexible bristles are reinforced with nylon that won’t pull or rip hair, and the cork handle is slip-resistant. It’s worth the investment if you’re trying to achieve bombshell blowouts like Aniston.

Shoppers agree—this brush is game changing.

One Amazon customer said, “My hairdresser uses this brush on my hair. It looks silky smooth, so I spent the money and I am happy I did. I have frizzy hair and this brush is a game changer.”

Other hairdressers support McMillian’s claims. One said, “I am a hairdresser and this brush is simply amazing for all hair types and this size is perfect for almost all lengths of hair! It gives good hold and enough pull while drying! I’ve already told multiple clients about this brush and where to purchase it. Definitely worth the money!”

So put down the hairspray, save your scalp the product buildup, and consider investing in the right tools, like the Ibiza Boar Hairbrush, to create a fabulous blowout (or whatever style you prefer to rock)!

Silver Hair Extensions Are In High Demand, And They Serve Multiple Genius Purposes https://www.suggest.com/silver-hair-extensions-high-demand/2671643/ Tue, 06 Sep 2022 11:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2671643 Back of a woman's head showcasing, long, curled silver hair.

Some women are deciding to ditch the dye for a variety of reasons. While historically there has been pressure on women to look the same or somehow better as they age, the tide has started to turn. Silver hair is officially trending and honestly, it’s been slowly happening for years.

Lady Gaga has been leading the gray hair charge since 2010. However, the pandemic lockdowns also affected women’s hairstyles. While salons were shut down for months, some women decided to embrace their natural hair color and forgo the coloring process altogether, even after salons opened back up.

The transition to gray hair can take some time, but extensions can help the process along. Celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker and Tracee Ellis Ross have all tried out some shades of gray. Many others have decided to accept and embrace their grays, and we love them for it!

Gray Hair For All

Younger and older women are all getting in on the silver hair trend. Instagram has several popular hashtags devoted to the movement including #silversisters and #goinggrey. With a younger crowd of women going gray, hair extensions in a variety of silvery hues are suddenly in demand.

Lisa Richards, CEO of RPZL Hair and Extension & Blowout Bar said in an interview with Glamour, “Currently, gray extensions are one of our biggest demands—clip-ins, pony, volumizers, tape, keratin, hand-tied, and even braided headbands in different shades of gray.”

RELATED: Growing Your Hair Out Gray: 9 Stunning Photo Examples Of How To Do It Well

Hair extensions for all ages are becoming normalized, however, and even older women are seeing the benefit of extensions. Aging has always been a contributing factor to hair loss. Other factors, such as genetics, your diet, and even using the wrong hairbrush can all impact hair loss. And there has been an increase in hair loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, extensions are doing double duty in helping along the transition to grey and helping solve the hair loss problem. While extensions won’t get to the root hair loss, they could help while you investigate the source.

Silver hair comes in a variety of shades, so picking the right color extension is key for a natural look. The quality of hair will also make a big difference in the final product (read: those $9 clip-ins probably won’t cut it). Picking the right piece for your hair styling needs, whether it’s traditional clip-ins, weft extensions, or halo-style headpieces is another consideration to make. If you’re in the market, ask your stylist at your next salon appointment, they can discuss the type of extensions best for you!

Bottleneck Bangs Are The Perfect Low Maintenance Style That Is Taking Over Curtain Bangs https://www.suggest.com/bottleneck-bangs-low-maintenance-style/2671464/ Sun, 04 Sep 2022 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2671464 Margot Robbie, Halle Berry, and Selena Gomez rocking bottleneck bangs.

If you’re like me, you probably contemplate cutting bangs every few months. Or rather, you contemplate calling your stylist and having them do it instead. It’s always better that way.

And there are a ton of bang styles from which to choose! Baby bangs (or “micro bangs”) have made a comeback with the resurgence of ‘90s style. Luckily, at least for now, we’ve kept the ultra curled ’90s bangs in the past.

RELATED: Move Over Wolf Cut, The Shullet Is The Latest Mullet-Inspired Hair Trend

Curtain bangs have been dominating the scene for the past few years. They’re easy to maintain and that makes them popular. However, there’s a new kind of fringe in town, and it’s becoming more in demand. We’re predicting that bottleneck bangs will be all the rage this fall, and we’re here for it.

What Are Bottleneck Bangs?

Bottleneck bangs have shorter pieces in the middle and then get longer on the sides. It’s like a mixture of regular fringe and curtain bangs, and it’s adorable. Halle Berry, Dakota Johnson, and Margot Robbie have all been spotted wearing the new style. They’re still low maintenance like curtain bangs, but the middle pieces give the hairstyle a level of sophistication.

Plus, it looks great on just about every hair type and length.

There are a few options for styling the bangs. If you have wavy or curly hair, you could let them air dry with a little product (like this moisturizing air dry cream from Rene Furterer) for an undone, cool girl aesthetic.

However, for a more put-together look, a flat iron or round brush with a hairdryer might be in the cards.

These bangs are flattering for just about everyone, to the point I’m pretty sure I just convinced myself to get them. To the salon!

Scalp Foundation Could Be The Quick Confidence Boost Solution To Your Thinning Hair https://www.suggest.com/what-is-scalp-foundation-our-top-picks/2670158/ Sat, 27 Aug 2022 15:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2670158 BOLDIFY hairline powder in gray, light blonde, and auburn

Hair loss affects many women, especially in midlife and beyond. While there are many wonderful products on the market to help with hair growth, they take way too long to see results. When thinning hair is affecting your daily life, you need results NOW—not a year from now!

What can be done about this extremely common problem? As it turns out, hair concealer/scalp foundation could be a quick solution. Allow me to explain.

What Is Scalp Foundation?

What I’m about to tell you might sound a little nuts. But if you stick with me, I promise this will make perfect sense. Scalp foundation is essentially makeup for your hair, and it’s a growing product category that is gaining some serious momentum.

Scalp foundation—aka hair concealer or scalp concealer—is a temporary topical product that will instantly give you the look of fuller, thicker hair with the stroke of a brush or a quick spritz. Some scalp foundations even conceal gray hair at the same time!

Think of scalp foundation the same way you would think about traditional face foundation. Essentially, you use it to create a more even-looking base. But with the scalp version, the ultimate goal is to create uniformity for the look of thicker and fuller hair.

No matter what is causing your hair thinning or hair loss—alopecia, pregnancy, breastfeeding, COVID, etc…—a scalp foundation will immediately give you the look of thicker, fuller hair.

This temporary fix for thinning hair can be used on common areas like the part line, the crown, and along a receding hairline. Some concealers will last for one or two shampoos. But, many will rinse out the next time you wash your hair. So, which scalp foundations should you try? Here are our top picks:

The Can’t Stop Me Now Scalp Foundation from ME Cosmetics will instantly give the appearance of more abundant hair and even out your hairline for an extra boost of confidence. You can also use this dermatologist-tested formula to cover your roots between color appointments, and to fill your brows!

If you have thinning hair—or even fine hair—TOPPIK Hair Building Fibers will instantly deliver results that you can see in the mirror. Made with a natural, colored Keratin protein that is statically charged, TOPPIK gives you a completely natural look when using it because the fibers intertwine with your existing hair.

This product is made for all hair types and textures, it doubles as a root concealer between hair colorings, and it’s available in nine different colors—black, auburn, dark brown, gray, light blonde, light brown, medium blonde, medium brown, and white.

All you have to do is dry and style as usual, shake or spray TOPPIK into the thinning area, and pat the hair to disperse the fibers. Voila! It all stays in place until your next shampoo.

This easy-to-use BOLDIFY powder is available in nine different colors, and it comes tucked neatly into a compact case. It goes on fast, stays on strong, and only comes off with shampoo.

Female Pattern Hair Loss Is Real: A Powerful Solution To This Common Problem In Women https://www.suggest.com/female-pattern-hair-loss-keranique-minoxidil-foam/2668096/ Sat, 13 Aug 2022 22:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2668096 A woman showcasing hair loss along her part line.

Hair loss is usually a subject reserved for men and their increasing struggles with male pattern baldness as they age, but it shouldn’t be. Female pattern hair loss is real, despite the fact most research has focused on men.

Thinning hair and widening parts are very common for women, and this can start in your 20s. Nearly 40 percent are affected by female pattern hair loss by age 50, and that number increases as we get older. More than half of all American women are affected by female hair loss by the age of 79.

All of that scientific research into male hair loss has produced some products that have been touted as proven solutions. Most notably, Minoxidil—aka Rogaine—has been the recommended treatment for years. But does Rogaine work for women?

Unlike men, women don’t usually go completely bald. Instead, we usually see a widening part or a thinning ponytail, maybe even some hair recession at the temples. Since hair loss affects women differently than men, it must be treated differently. The good news is that the FDA has approved Minoxidil for women—aka Women’s Rogaine.

The difference between Rogaine for men versus women used to be the dosage requirements. At first, men got a 5% topical foam to apply to the scalp while a 2% topical solution was approved for women to tackle widening parts and thinning temples.

But now, women have access to both forms of Minoxidil. And the research shows it significantly increases total hair count for women with regular use in as little as 24 weeks. However, you should definitely consult with your doctor to find out which dosage and form is right for you.

Hair loss in women is usually progressive. No matter the cause, if it’s left untreated, you will likely continue to lose hair. The best course of action is to try a Minoxidil regrowth treatment like this option from Keranique.

Keranique is a 5% Minoxidil topical foam for women that can help stop the top of the scalp hair loss and support hair regrowth. It has been clinically proven to regrow hair where thinning has occurred.

Don’t Suffer Through Bad Hair On Vacay: This Compact Hair Dryer Reduces Frizz And Dry Time https://www.suggest.com/panasonic-nanoe-compact-hair-dryer-overview/2668089/ Fri, 12 Aug 2022 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2668089 Nanoe compact hair dryers from Panasonic

My hair and I have been at war with humidity my entire life. The battles get even worse on vacation because we tend to choose destinations that have even higher levels of humidity than we have at home.

But my vacation woes don’t end there. Since it’s always a struggle to pack light when going on a trip, my bulky hair dryer usually gets left at home, especially since most hotels have them available. But once again, the combination of the high humidity and the wrong styling tool is a recipe for disaster.

Whether I use the standard small dryer installed on the wall or a cheap dryer kept under the bathroom sink, hotel hair dryers don’t do my hair any favors. So, I end up wasting time in front of the mirror trying to frantically dry my hair before dinner. And then, I look back at vacation photos and all I can see is my frizzy mane.

This is why I finally decided to invest in a quality compact hair dryer that is worth making room for in my suitcase.

RELATED: This Flight Attendant Swears By This Luggage Brand For Suitcases That Are Extra Durable

The nanoe compact hair dryer from Panasonic is the perfect portable travel accessory because it fits in your luggage and leaves your hair looking shiny and less frizzy.

This fantastic hair tool has a compact lightweight design with a folding handle, making it easier than ever to tuck into a carry-on, tote, or large travel purse. This dryer also fits well in a gym bag, making it easily accessible after a workout.

But don’t let that tiny size fool you. This mini hair dryer packs 1400 watts of power for fast, even drying, which significantly cuts down my hair drying time and how long it takes me to get ready overall. The nanoe is also designed for faster drying with its unique QuickDry nozzle. And, you can apply high, medium, or cool airflow settings—whatever works for your hair type and style.

So, you’re probably asking—what makes this hair dryer so special? The answer is the unique nanoe technology, which draws moisture from the air and creates super-fine, moisture-rich ions that penetrate each strand of your hair. This results in a more healthy head of hair with less damage, more shine, and less frizz.

This hair dryer is so great, that you may want to start using it every day. The lightweight design causes less stress on your wrists and can save space in an often already crowded bathroom.

So say goodbye to frizz and hello healthy hair. Thanks to the nanoe, it appears that humidity and I can finally call a truce.

This Color Depositing Mask Can Instantly Change Your Look And Has A Second Hidden Use https://www.suggest.com/igk-color-depositing-mask-overview/2667354/ Wed, 10 Aug 2022 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2667354 Three shades of IGK's color depositing hair mask.

A new hair color can easily revitalize your look and boost your mood. Despite this, hair decisions can’t always happen spontaneously, as box dyes don’t always deliver the best results and salon visits can be pricey. Also, a change in hair color usually requires a long-term commitment as well. However, you do have alternatives before putting a halt on your new makeover.

Take a low-risk approach to color testing at home with this nourishing color-depositing mask that features a semi-permanent color that lasts up to ten washes.

As opposed to traditional hair dye, IGK Color Depositing Mask colors your hair’s outermost layer rather than changing the underlying color. In other words, it’s a temporary hair dye.

Along with a gorgeous new hue, it offers a deep conditioning treatment with ultra-hydrating, shine-inducing ingredients. It contains squalane, meadowfoam oil, prickly pear cactus, and quinoa as a natural keratin alternative.

Using the mask couldn’t be more simple. Apply the product to clean, wet hair using gloves and leave on for 15 minutes. For best results, comb through, then rinse to reveal a gorgeous new shade. It is also possible to apply to dry hair to get a much more intense color effect, depending on your preference. When applied to damp hair, it creates a sheerer finish.

You will see the semi-permanent color fade naturally over two weeks, depending on your hair washing schedule. Hence, it is an ideal solution for those who wish to try out new colors before making a more permanent, expensive commitment.

IGK Color Depositing Mask comes in 18 semi-permanent IGK shades, from natural to fun. A variety of colors are available from chocolatey browns to strawberry reds, and velvety blues.

While meant as a temporary color fix, shoppers have found this mask also can serve as a handy tool to cover gray roots or tone hair between dyes.

“Very simple to apply and have 100% gray coverage,” one reviewer wrote. “Left my hair soft and covered all my gray roots. There’s also enough in the tube for about 2 more applications. Excellent!”

“I am a brunette who lightens her hair to light brown hair at home with a semi perm dye. It can get brassy between colorings,” another reviewer noted. “I tried IGK ‘magic storm’ hair mask to subtly cool down the brassiness and blend in the new gray growth—and the product did exactly that. It was much easier to use and much less messy than my at home color.”

With hair coloring this easy, we can’t wait to try them all as well!

Reduce Breakage And Speed Up Dry Time Post Shower With This One Handy Item https://www.suggest.com/volo-hero-microfiber-hair-towel-review/2667097/ Sat, 06 Aug 2022 15:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2667097 A woman in the shower washing her hair

If you’re still using a regular bath towel to dry your hair, you could be causing undue damage to your hair. When your hair is wet, it’s super fragile and vulnerable. Using a coarse bath towel on top of everything else we do to our hair (living with the same ponytail daily, anyone?) can make even the prettiest hair look terrible.

Regular towels rough up the cuticles of the hair, leaving it frizzy and prone to breakage. I’ve definitely been there. Before I found out about this new way of drying my hair, my locks were at their frizziest.

Enter microfiber, a versatile fabric with a variety of uses. Microfiber makes great cleaning cloths and comfy sheets, and they can even save your vulnerable wet hair from damage.

RELATED: 7 Ways You’re Secretly Damaging Your Hair On A Daily Basis

The VOLO Hero Microfiber Hair Towel was an Allure Best of Beauty award winner in 2021, and it’s easy to see why. This ingenious towel is super absorbent while still incredibly lightweight. Because of its featherlight feel, this towel won’t pull down hair like a normal bath towel (which just causes more damage).

The VOLO towel uses high-quality microfiber that keeps frizz at bay and dries hair 50% faster than a normal towel. Just gently twist the hair into the towel, and secure it in the back with a snug, comfortable strap. In addition to being incredibly convenient to use, this handy towel is also great for all hair types, including long or thick hair.

The plush towel has a ton of positive reviews and a high rating on Amazon. Get yourself one and one for a girlfriend—neither of you will be disappointed. Just take it from one reviewer, who said they were ordering several more.

“LOVE my VOLO towel,” they wrote. “The soft texture makes it a pleasure to wrap your head post-shampoo. The pink is a nice color, [the] edging is nice, fastening spot is solid logoed heavy elastic (nice). Have been looking for the right towel for a long time. Highly recommend.”

Another reviewer raved about its longevity. “I had bought one for myself and loved it so much I bought one for my mom as a gift! She loves it, too. The material is so soft, and I have washed it so much, and it hasn’t broken down at all. Had for two years and looks as good as the day I bought it.”

Making this one small change in your routine will have your tresses looking soft, healthy, and frizz-free.

Shoppers Say These Supplements Really Do Stop Hair Thinning In Its Tracks https://www.suggest.com/keranique-keraviatin-lift-and-repair-treatment-reviews/2666141/ Mon, 01 Aug 2022 22:05:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2666141 woman with hair loss problem. Hair falling out, hair brush with hair

If you struggle with hair thinning or hair loss, there are several noteworthy topical options that can strengthen hair, detox the scalp, and promote hair growth. Despite their effectiveness, topical treatments alone cannot always achieve desired results. Adding in a supplement can help address some of the underlying causes of hair loss to truly complete your hair growth regimen.

In fact, a lack of nutrients in your diet may contribute to thinning hair. Thankfully, Keranique has developed a breakthrough solution to provide your scalp with the essential nutrients to grow stronger and shinier healthier-looking hair.

Keranique Regrowth Solutions

Keranique’s hair growth and regrowth products are designed specifically for women who are experiencing hair loss or thinning hair. Aside from promoting hair strength and supporting scalp health, Keranqiue addresses the underlying causes of hair loss.

Keranqiue integrates beauty with clinically proven science, as shown in KeraViatin. KeraViatin soft gels have been clinically proven to promote hair strength, support scalp health, and support the hair follicle. Additionally, they address the underlying causes of poor hair health.

Furthermore, these powerful hair supplements contain clinically tested, non-GMO, and sustainably sourced ingredients. KeraViatin nourishes hair from within for a drug-free haircare advancement.

The Keraviatin10 complex has a powerful blend of nutrients including biotin and vitamin B, with curcumin being one of its key components. Curcumin, an antioxidant found in the turmeric root, is arguably one of the most potent antioxidants on the planet.

Together, these ingredients target, nourish, and restore all hair types. A staggering 98% of women saw improvements in hair growth.

Reviewers of the product are amazed by its positive results, praising the product that helps hair regrow back fast and thicker.

“You’ll start [getting] results in the first 30 days,” one commenter claimed. “My hair was thinning and falling out after having 3 children so I thought I would try Keranique and my hair is thicker and longer and not falling out anymore!!! Best vitamin EVER!!!”

One commenter with alopecia and seborrheic dermatitis noted they had been taking biotin previously, but with less success until they started taking KeraViatin.

“I started taking Keranique and actually not the full dose due to me not wanting to overdo it with supplements,” they said.  “I noticed the top of my head began thickening somewhat and the back was growing past my shoulders.” Now they’re taking the full dose and can’t wait to see the results!

In addition to KeraViatin’s clinically tested formula, Keranique Lift and Repair Treatment Spray offer even more solutions for thinning hair. Using Keranique Life and Repair Formula, you can maintain your hair’s strength and elasticity while adding body, bounce, and fullness.

This powerful spray helps replenish natural keratin fibers in the hair and protects the cuticle. Additionally, Keranique Lift and Repair Treatment Spray provides frizz protection for up to 24 hours for both style and repair.

Paired together, you can focus on healing your hair from within while volumizing and boosting your current hair. We call that a win-win!

Stress. Environment. Age. Diet. Hormonal changes. Family history. Certain medications. Etcetera. All of the aforementioned topics have a laundry list of their own issues and side effects. But, they also have something in common. They can all contribute to hair loss.

This powerful line of shampoo and conditioners will promote growth, remove buildup, and protect all hair types. No matter your hair type or goals, each Keranique product is designed to restore and grow hair by protecting against damage, nourishing for visible health, and strengthening for less breakage.

Reviewers Rave

Although the cause of hair loss doesn’t matter (Keranique doesn’t discriminate), this reviewer recommends Keranique if you suffer from thyroid issues. “This product did EVERYTHING it said it would do! I noticed a big difference in my hair after just three uses. I would recommend this to anyone suffering from thyroid hair loss!”

Advanced age is only one contributor to hair loss. This older reviewer raves about her results. “This is by far my favorite shampoo and conditioner. I have fine old lady hair and these products give my hair a much-needed lift.”

This reviewer is seeing results in as little as a month. She states, “[I’ve] just been using the products for about a month and I am seeing a difference. My hair feels much cleaner and it is much shinier. Hair seems to be getting thicker.”

So no matter your age or hair type, Keranique Shampoo and Conditioner may just be the simple solution for your hair thinning woes.

There are a few ways to soften the transition, though. Using highlights and lowlights to soften the roots can help. Going all in and shaving your hair or chopping it off into a pixie cut can also help to make a smoother transition. Using extensions or accessories can also ease you into the big change. Or, you can just let nature take its course. No matter how you choose to do it, once you go gray, there’s no other way!

If you need some inspiration, we’ve found some women rocking the transition to gray hair. We are here for it!

1. Go Wild And Free

2. Keep Your Style Polished

3. Make It Short And Sassy

Jennifer Garner’s On-Set Style Features Her Go-To Hair Brand For Healthy, Voluminous Results https://www.suggest.com/jennifer-garner-onset-hair-virtue-labs/2664102/ Sat, 23 Jul 2022 18:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2664102 Jennifer Garner with her natural brown hair down at a red carpet event in 2019.

Jennifer Garner is one of the lucky few who are just naturally gorgeous. Plus, she’s as poised and elegant as they come. I mean, she can even rock overalls, a ponytail, and glasses and still look camera-ready. Whether she’s whipping up leftover chicken soup on her pretend cooking show, getting in a killer workout, or running errands in comfy pants like the rest of us, her radiance, joy, and beauty shine through.

But, even celebrities need a little help in the beauty department sometimes. And, while, yes, the 13 Going On 30 star does have a team of beauty experts available most of the time, even at her most “made-up” she still looks approachable and natural.

In a recent Instagram post, Garner shared with fans her beauty routine while on the set of The Last Thing He Told Me. Although she did have the help of a hair stylist, Garner sung the praises of Virtue Labs, a science-backed, women-led, biotech hair care brand that she has touted many times before.

“They’ve got their work cut out for them this morning,” Garner says as she runs her fingers through her wet hair.

She states that she washed and conditioned her hair using VIRTUE Full Shampoo and Conditioner. Both of these products help repair and strengthen the hair strands. The “Full” line targets fine hair, adding volume and plumping each strand.

Next she states, “Watch the magicians do their magic,” as she holds up the VIRTUE 6-in-1 Styler. Applied to the hair before styling, the lightweight cream helps repair split ends, increases color vibrancy, and increases hair thickness. I mean, is there anything it doesn’t do? Oh yeah, it also adds softness, shine, and protection from heating tools!

Next up, before blow drying, VIRTURE Frizz Block Smoothing Spray is applied to the hair. You shake it first to activate the product and then spray it on damp hair. This mist rids the hair of frizz and is even made for super-humid conditions. (Hello, summer!) It’s heat activated and lasts for up to 72 hours.

After styling, Garner’s “favorite product- bar none,” is applied. The “hero product” of the brand, VIRTUE Healing Oil, adds another layer of shine and protection. The Healing Oil is formulated with Vitamin E, Tahitian Gardenia Flower Extract, and Kalahari Melon Seed Oil. The unique blend of oils and Alpha Keratin 60ku hydrates, protects, and repairs every hair type.

Once done, Garner’s hair looks amazingly soft, voluminous, and healthy. “What a difference a little Virtue makes,” Garner states. And, as if she couldn’t be more relatable, she then messes with her bangs and cries, “Bangs, why, bangs? The struggle!”

Shoppers Are Blown Away By The Hair Growing And Strengthening Power Of This Detoxing Scalp Oil https://www.suggest.com/rene-furterer-complexe-5-scalp-oil-review/2664166/ Thu, 21 Jul 2022 16:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2664166 Rene Furterer Complexe 5 Stimulating Plant Concentrate Scalp Treatment

Supplements and shampoos are just some of the many products available on the market today that claim to increase hair growth. However, when it comes to true hair growth, you must start from the very root of the source, your scalp.

It goes without saying that, even if you manage to find other hair growth products or techniques whose results are promising, you shouldn’t ignore your scalp when it comes to hair health. In the end, proper scalp care is crucial.

Imagine your scalp as soil and your hair as a garden. At the end of the day, a healthy garden cannot grow without good soil. In the same way, healthy hair depends on a healthy scalp.

There may be a link between disturbances to scalp health and issues such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis. Unfortunately, some of these conditions and failure to maintain good scalp health can lead to hair thinning and hair loss. Plus hair can become frizzy and be prone to breakage and feel dry.

Fortunately, there are ways to enhance your hair’s growth with moisturizing essential oils that have been proven to nurture and hydrate your scalp. Well known for their high-quality and effective products, Rene Furterer has a stimulating pre-shampoo scalp treatment that shoppers say has life-changing results.

Known as the ‘secret’ to a healthy scalp as well as shiny and bouncy hair, the Complexe 5 Stimulating Plants Concentrate from Rene Furterer is the first step that you must take against hair loss and scalp thinning. Besides restoring balance, the warming oils help to boost the penetration of active ingredients found in other Rene Furterer hair care products.

Lavender and orange essential oils work harmoniously to detoxify and nourish your hair, scalp, and overall hair health. In addition to its calming properties, lavender oil is an effective way to gently cleanse the hair and promote the proper conditions for long-lasting, healthy-looking locks. Moreover, orange oil soothes, revitalizes, and purifies the scalp, allowing it to maintain a healthy appearance.

Reviewers on Amazon are raving about the Complexe 5 Stimulating Plant Concentrate. In fact, it’s even hairdresser approved! “After being on propecia for 6 years, and having hypothyroidism for decades. This stuff works. I use it, and would only recommend things to clients I believe in.”

The comments from other reviewers overwhelmingly agreed that the product is amazing! “Hair isn’t falling out as quickly as it was before. Noticed a difference after about 4 weeks. I use it twice a week. And makes your hair super shiny!” One reviewer said. “This is a great product for dry, puffy, frizzy hair. Calms my hair right down and gives it a lovely condition,” said another.

Per the brand’s instructions, the Complexe 5 Stimulating Plant Concentrate works great as a pre-shampoo detoxing scalp treatment. For even better results, pair this treatment with Rene Furtere shampoo and conditioner, such as their widely popular TRIPHASIC Strengthening Shampoo and TRIPHASIC Detangling Conditioner.

If You Aren’t Using SPF For Your Hair, You’re Probably Causing Serious Damage https://www.suggest.com/hair-scalp-needs-sun-protection-our-top-hair-sunscreen-picks/2663628/ Sat, 16 Jul 2022 19:15:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2663628

It’s always a good idea to protect your skin from sun damage regardless of the season. Sun exposure is responsible for sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer.

Thankfully, there are several steps one can take to protect their skin from the sun, such as applying broad-spectrum sunscreens and layering clothing. But there might be other important tips we’re overlooking when it comes to sun safety.

In spite of the fact that we are all familiar with the need for protecting our skin from the sun, we often neglect to protect our hair and our scalp when it comes to protection from the sun. Unfortunately, the hair and scalp are just as likely to get sun damage as the skin from being in the sun

What’s worse? UV (ultraviolet) light does not discriminate, as all hair types are prone to sun damage regardless of color or texture. Most commonly, the sun damages the outside of the hair strand, also known as the cuticle, when exposed to sunlight for too long. Due to this, hair may appear discolored, dry, and brittle. Additionally, it is more likely to break and have split ends, as well as being thin and frizzy.

RELATED: 7 Ways You’re Secretly Damaging Your Hair On A Daily Basis

As with your skin, if you want to preserve your scalp as well as your precious strands of hair, then you need to take precautions.

The One Product Your Summer Self-Care Routine Is Missing

To minimize premature thinning, frizzy, dull, lifeless, or damaged hair, choose products with SPF to shield your hair and scalp from harmful UV rays. Here are our top picks for the best sun safety hair products.

Protect your hair and scalp, and also the environment, with this non-greasy, organic SPF mist that will provide the ultimate sun protection. COOLA Organic Scalp & Hair Sunscreen Mist provides both hair and scalp protection without weighing hair down. Furthermore, it boasts an exceptional natural ocean sage scent with an incomparably remarkable lightweight feel.

In reviews, users rave about how this particular formula leaves their hair feeling neither greasy nor sticky while shielding them from burns and maintaining the color of their hair.

“I feel like the part in my hair gets burned over and over again every summer, and I’ve tried every product. This is the best I’ve tried,” one reviewer shared,  “It’s not sticky or greasy. Love it.”

A nutrient- and antioxidant-rich UV spray, SEVEN’s Rinzu COVER UV Spray prevents color fading and preps hair for a high shine. It is ideal for color-treated hair. Aside from zinc, galanga root, and white tea, these nutrients are effective UV shields. Furthermore, sweet almonds condition and protect the hair follicle from breaks, brittleness, and damage.

While a subtle but sweet grapefruit scent, this mist helps protect your strands from the sun’s harmful rays, pollutants, and other environmental stressors.

These Common Purple Shampoo Mistakes Can Cause Serious Hair Damage–Here’s What To Do Instead https://www.suggest.com/common-purple-shampoo-mistakes/2662663/ Fri, 15 Jul 2022 21:55:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2662663 Woman washing hair with purple shampoo

Maintaining hair color is a scientific art, and purple shampoo is proof. Purple shampoo uses crushed violet pigments to neutralize yellow tones, also called brassiness, in blonde and silver hair. But it isn’t quite as easy as suds, rinse, and repeat.

Purple shampoo’s efficacy is rooted in color theory (more on that later). It also requires proper application to achieve the desired results. Without clear knowledge of both, your purple shampoo could actually do more harm than good.

Here are some common ways you might be using your purple shampoo incorrectly, and, more importantly, how to use it right.

1. You’re Using Too Much Of It

Purple shampoo distributes violet pigments in the hair, which bind to and cancel out yellow tones in your hair. However, less is more with this potent product. Using too much purple shampoo can introduce too much violet to your locks, causing hair to appear dark and dull.

Brassiness refers to the warm yellows and oranges that naturally occur in our hair. While too much can ruin the look of a cool, ashy blonde, not enough can look unnatural and lifeless.

It’s best to use a purple shampoo once a week at most. Luckily, this just means you can invest in higher quality products, like Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance. Because you only have to apply once a week, this high-end hair care solution will last you longer.

2. You’re Skipping This Important Step

Purple shampoo is meant to tone all of your hair, which means you need to ensure you’re putting the product on all of your hair. Uneven application can result in splotches of brassiness or dullness—no one wants that.

To ensure your purple products are reaching every last inch of your tresses, get a wide-toothed shower comb. Use the comb to distribute the shampoo or conditioner evenly down your locks. Just be sure to comb gently, as wet hair is more prone to overstretching and breakage.

RELATED: 7 Ways You’re Secretly Damaging Your Hair On A Daily Basis

3. You Aren’t Waiting Long Enough

Too often, we don’t give our hair products a fair chance to work their magic. We apply, rinse almost immediately, then wonder why our new shampoo or conditioner doesn’t work. Combing product through your hair is the first step to combat this.

The second is to wait. Purple shampoo is not meant to be washed out immediately. Give the products around three to seven minutes to fully absorb into the hair shaft for maximum results. Rinsing off the product too early is essentially like giving your money away.

4. You’re Using The Wrong Product For Your Hair Type

Purple shampoos can be incredibly drying. For thick or oily hair, this can be less of an issue. But for those with dry, coarse, or very fine hair, using too much purple product can increase your risk of breakage.

Redken’s Color Extend Blondage Express is a gentle hair mask that hydrates as it color corrects. Using a mask or conditioner instead of shampoo can decrease the amount of drying-out your locks have to face for the sake of cool, non-brassy color.

5. You (Think You) Have The Wrong Hair Color

Another common misconception about purple shampoo is that it’s only for blonde and silver hair. This goes back to color theory. Colors opposite each other on the color wheel—like purple and yellow—are complementary.

That’s how the violet pigments can soften and eliminate yellow tones. Since brunette and red hair are primarily orange-toned, purple shampoo won’t do much for its overall color.

However, purple shampoo can eliminate brassiness in brunette balayage, ombré, and other highlighted looks. Moreover, blue shampoo like this one from Redken is effective in eliminating orange tones specifically, as blue and orange are complementary colors.

So, depending on what tones you’re looking to eliminate, brunettes and redheads could still use a purple or blue shampoo to color correct.

RELATED: It Turns Out, Air Drying Your Hair Can Sometimes Cause More Damage Than Blow Drying

6. You Aren’t Following Up With Moisture

If you are using purple shampoo to even out dyed blonde or silver, then your hair has already undergone stress from the chemical processes of the hair dye. If you are naturally gray-haired, your hair is also more coarse and prone to dryness.

Therefore, it’s incredibly important to hydrate your hair when using purple products. Verb’s Purple Hair Mask is a nourishing, vegan purple mask that softens and smooths as it tones. It contains pro-vitamin B5, sunflower seed extract, and açai extract for extra moisturizing power.

Whether you’re new to the world of purple products or a bonafide pro, avoiding these common mistakes can help you get the cool, chic blonde and silver hair tone of your dreams.

If You Have Gray Hair, You Need To Be Adding This Crucial Haircare Step To Your Routine https://www.suggest.com/gray-silver-hair-care-water-misting-keratin/2662618/ Thu, 14 Jul 2022 16:45:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2662618 Gray-haired woman smiling, looking at camera.

Gray hair happens. ‌Even so, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t flaunt that beautiful gray‌ ‌and‌ ‌silver‌ ‌mane. ‌In fact, we’re here for it, along with‌ ‌everyone‌ ‌else! An all-silver head of hair is absolutely stunning. But, when it comes to maintaining a shimmery, ‌gleaming hue, there is an essential step that you may be overlooking.

If you’ve recently embraced silver strands or have been gray for years, you may have noticed that your hair has a slightly different texture. ‌In general, silver hair is more brittle, coarse, dry, and‌ ‌prone‌ ‌to‌ ‌breakage. Compound that with the numerous haircare faux pas most of us are guilty of, and it’ll seem like your tresses will never be silky smooth.

With age, hair follicles produce less melanin, an amino acid that creates‌ ‌skin‌ ‌and‌ ‌hair‌ ‌pigment. ‌The scalp also produces less sebum, an oil that provides moisture to the hair, leading to dryness and breakage.

It is a natural process that hair ages, but there is a simple step you can take to keep your locks looking as silky and as shiny‌ ‌as‌ ‌ever.

The Secret Behind Soft, Touchable Silver

As crazy as it may sound, before styling and adding product, simply mist your strands with a bit of water. Due to the reasons outlined above, gray hair typically evaporates water more quickly, which can leave strands even more parched.

Just like our bodies need water to stay hydrated, so does our hair. But you can’t just mist alone. Sealing in the moisture with product, like a keratin-infused oil, is key for this trick to actually work.

For best results, spritz using a mist bottle like the Beautify Beauties Hair Spray Bottle before product application.

RELATED: Sarah Jessica Parker ‘Holy Grail’ Hair Tool Made By Jennifer Aniston’s Stylist Can Also Protect Against Breakage

After misting, you’ll want to lock in that hydration with a product that will help to strengthen and protect gray strands.

‌Keratin is a type of protein found in hair, skin,‌ ‌and‌ ‌nails. It ‌effortlessly enhances the strength, softness, and brightness of‌ ‌the hair. ‌After misting your hair, apply a dime-sized amount of a keratin-infused product, such as this Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment, to prevent breakage and maintain healthy, shiny silver ‌tresses.

While‌ ‌extra protection might not seem necessary, gray hair ‌produces ‌less‌ ‌sebum‌ ‌and‌ ‌melanin. ‌Therefore, tired strands will feel coarse, and may be prone to breakage, so an extra boost may be necessary. Remember, however, that less is more when applying a keratin sealer. Apply it from root to tip in order to achieve optimal‌ ‌results.

From Cult-Favorite Hot Tools To High-End Hair Care Products, These Amazon Prime Hair Deals Cannot Be Missed https://www.suggest.com/amazon-prime-days-hair-care-styling-deals/2715239/ Tue, 12 Jul 2022 10:05:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/amazon-prime-days-hair-care-styling-deals/2715239/ Assorted hair care and styling products

A hair care routine is only as good as its products and tools. The wrong ingredients, chemicals, or styling tools can damage hair worse than using nothing at all. But, unfortunately, the best of the best is never the cheapest of the cheap.

Luckily, Amazon is offering killer deals on hair care and styling items as part of its Amazon Prime Days event, July 12 and 13. From cult-favorite hot tools to luxury hair care products, you won’t want to miss out on this money-saving magic.

Pureology gets its name—and stellar reputation—from its high-quality, high-efficiency formulas. Its Hydrate Shampoo is a pro favorite for dry and/or color-treated hair for its rich ingredients, including jojoba, green tea, and sage. This ultra-rich shampoo features a spa-worthy scent of lavender, bergamot, and patchouli. So, your hair can (almost) smell better than it looks.

Then, complete your Pureology regimen with its Hydrate Moisturizing Conditioner. This luxurious conditioner includes the same heavy-hitting ingredients as the shampoo. It also features an invigorating menthol and mint scent that leaves behind a fresh, tingly feeling. This high-end shampoo and conditioner set will save your tresses from the harsh summer sun and heat.

Speaking of heat, it does a lot of damage to your locks. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s often the most efficient styling method. Pro hair care brand SexyHair’s Flash Me Quickly Spray offers an effective solution. This lightweight spray cuts hair drying time in half and also protects your locks up to 450º F.

Fighting frizz caused by summer heat and humidity is certainly no small feat. The right styling tool should be hot enough to get the job done without completely frying the hair. BaBylissPro’s Nano Titanium 1” Straightener does just that. Featuring a slim, ergonomic design and protective nano titanium plates, this flat iron protects as it smooths.

For extremely frizzy or curly hair, sometimes heat isn’t enough. Nourish your waves and curls with MIZANI’s Miracle Milk Leave-In Conditioner. The aptly named product contains coconut and fennel seed oil that adds shine, creates softness, and strengthens the hair shaft. It can be used on all hair types as a detangler, leave-in conditioner, moisturizer, and heat protectant. How’s that for multitasking?

Not all dry shampoos are created equal. And unless you want to look like you just tussled with a bag of flour, finding the right no-streak formula is important. Redken’s Deep Clean Dry Shampoo absorbs excess oil and refreshes the scalp in between washes. The cooling sensation will leave you feeling like you just hopped out of the shower instead of rocking your fourth no-wash day.

The wrong curling iron can fry your tresses, leave your arms sore and tired, and create dull, lifeless spirals that fall flat in hours. BIO IONIC’s Long Barrel Styler does exactly the opposite. A nanoionic mineral-infused barrel locks in moisture and seals the cuticle for shiny, touchably soft curls. Plus, a cool touch tip and 2” longer barrel provide maximum comfort for even long-haired stylers.

Despite what hair ads would have you think, no one has perfect hair. But even if your locks have undergone more than their fair share of damage recently, there’s still hope. Redken’s Bonding Treatment strengthens and repairs dry, damaged hair with citric acid and a vegan bonding care complex. As a result, hair is twice as strong and looks up to 90% more conditioned.

Fighting hair thinning can seem like an uphill battle. NIOXIN’s hair thickening regimen helps strengthen your tresses for thicker, fuller-looking hair. This high-end brand is known for its highly effective formulas that are clinically proven to reduce hair fall by up to 91%. With over 17,000 five-star ratings, the reviews speak for themselves.

Get a salon-worthy blowout without leaving your house with Drybar’s Blow Dryer Brush. Strategically placed vents provide maximum drying power, while ionic technology helps seal the hair cuticle for less frizz and more shine. Additionally, the round oval shape gives hair serious volume and a smooth, flawless finish. It’s the hairstyling tool your local salon doesn’t want you to know about.

As we age, our hair’s needs change. Alterna’s Anti-Aging Hair Spray takes this into account with its thoughtful, high-quality formula. The hairspray itself offers a dry, flexible, and humidity-resistant hold. Omega-3 Fatty Acids from caviar extract increase elasticity and moisture levels in aging hair, providing much-needed strength and vibrancy to dull, dry locks.

Chemical treatments and high heat do significant damage to hair. So, to reverse these negative effects, you need a significant repairing cream. Sebastian’s Deep Repair and Strengthening Masque is a high-end product up for the challenge. This restorative hair mask is formulated with an active rescue system that leaves dry, dull hair soft and shiny.

A blow dryer can be an incredibly versatile styling tool—if you get the right one. Panasonic’s Nanoe Hair Dryer features three pro-quality attachments and multiple speed and heat settings, making it a great tool for all hair types and styles. Nanoe technology draws moisture from the air, creating moisture-rich ions that penetrate each strand while you style.

Unfortunately, life rarely takes into account our salon schedules. When life gets too hectic for a trip to the salon, a root touch-up spray like R+Co’s Bright Shadows Spray is a must-have. This long-lasting, mess-free spray covers regrowth without stickiness, dustiness, or transfer. Pearl extract, biotin, and mica also strengthen, thicken, and add shine to your tresses.

Long days under the hot summer sun can leave hair fried and flat. Sun Bum’s Texture Spray not only adds volume and life to limp locks, it also protects the hair and scalp from the harmful effects of UV rays. Vegan and paraben-free sea salt and sea kelp add texture and body for an effortless, summer-chic look.

Prolonged exposure to oxygen and UV rays can cause cool blondes and silvers to turn yellow and brassy. And since exposure to both is inevitable in the summer, having a high-quality purple shampoo is crucial. MATRIX’ So Silver Purple Shampoo neutralizes warm tones and revitalizes cool blondes and grays with just one application.

7 Ways You’re Secretly Damaging Your Hair On A Daily Basis https://www.suggest.com/experts-share-common-hair-damaging-habits/2661265/ Sat, 09 Jul 2022 21:55:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2661265 Brushes with locks of hair tangled in bristles

Hair care is a long, slow process that takes place over weeks, months, and even years of regular regimens and maintenance. But just like we can make small, steady progress over the years, we can also inadvertently damage our hair the same way.

Unfortunately, damaging your hair is far easier than keeping it healthy. In fact, these common “mistakes” are so common that it can be hard to identify them as hair care faux pas in the first place

But according to the experts, these seven habits are harder on your tresses than you might have thought.

1. You’re Overwashing

“It’s best to wash your hair as little as possible,” explains Melissa Gilbert, an aesthetician at FantasticServices.com. “Your scalp’s skin is covered with billions of good bacteria that make up its microbiome. They maintain your skin’s pH and prevent bad microbes from settling.”

“Washing and shampooing too often can upset that microbiome and lead to scalp problems,” Gilbert continues. “An imbalance in your scalp’s microbiome can lead to bad bacteria and fungi taking over it, causing issues like inflammation and dandruff.”

RELATED: Jennifer Aniston Breaks These Common Shampooing And Conditioning Hair Myths

2. You’re Showering Wrong

The way you wash your hair is important, too—not just frequency. “It may be the last thing you think about, but the best option is to wash your hair in lukewarm water,” Gilbert says. “You need warm water to open up your hair cuticle, which will help release the residue easier.”

“Also, make sure you wash your hair gently,” she adds. “Many people tangle their hair while washing by scrubbing vigorously. However, that just tangles and mattes it. This ends up roughing up the cuticle way too much, which can lead to hair loss.”

3. You’re Spending Too Much Time In The Sun

It’s fairly easy to remember skin protection while out in the sun. But what about your hair? According to Dr. Michael May, medical director at Wimpole Clinic, our hair is just at just as much risk from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

“Too much exposure to the sun can damage the hair’s structure and cause frizzy and dry hair that’s prone to breakage,” May says. “Protect your hair from UV rays just like how you protect your skin from the scorching sun. Apply UV protection hair products and wear a wide-brimmed hat before going out.”

4. You’re Missing Out On Essential Nutrients

Yep—there are many reasons to eat a balanced diet, and maintaining healthy hair is certainly one of them.

“If improving hair health is your goal, try adding more biotin-rich foods to your diet,” suggests Dr. Jae Pak, a hair restoration doctor. For example, this can include mushrooms, avocados, and sweet potatoes.

Additionally, you should probably stop skipping breakfast. “Your body receives all the vitamins and minerals it requires to function properly throughout the day [at breakfast],” says Justina Blakeney, founder and hair expert at Niawigs.com.

RELATED: Your Diet May Be Contributing To Your Hair Loss

“Due to hair shedding and slowed hair development, skipping breakfast might be detrimental for your hair. Try to include foods like almonds, strawberries, eggs, and cinnamon in your healthy breakfast. They provide the energy boost that your hair needs.”

5. Your Products Contain Too Much Alcohol

“Using hair gels, hair sprays, and dry shampoos with denatured alcohol can dry your hair to an extreme level,” says Ghanima Abdullah, cosmetologist at TheRightHairstyles.com. Abdullah recommends these products instead.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk is a gentle, paraben- and sulfate-free dry shampoo with no denatured alcohols. It has a light floral scent and a fresh, no-streak finish. It’s also sustainably made with a natural, clean formula.

Instead of harsh, drying hairsprays, Abdullah suggests using Kenra’s alcohol-free Shaping Spray 21. Kenra’s Shaping Spray is the first professional hairspray that is alcohol-free, providing maximum moisture retention. But don’t worry: It still offers an extra firm, high-shine hold, even without this infamous hair product ingredient.

6. You’re Sleeping On The Wrong Pillowcase

Nathan Watson of LionLocs.com says to also pay attention to your sleeping habits. Sleeping takes up about one-third of our day. If you use the wrong pillowcase, you can unwittingly subject your hair to damage—that’s a lot of wear and tear to consider.

“Sleeping on a cotton pillow can lead to tangled hair and breakage,” Watson explains. “In addition to maintaining curls overnight, silk pillowcases prevent excessive pulling of hair during tossing and turning.”

Lunar Silks offers the highest grade, 100% pure mulberry silk in its pillowcases. These satiny soft pillow shams are available in four colors and two different sizes.

7. You’re Avoiding The Salon

Finally, while it might seem counterintuitive, one of the best ways to prevent hair damage is to cut it. Waiting too long between haircuts can cause the hair cuticle to fray and snap, leading to breakage, thinning, and even hair loss.

“In order to maintain healthy ends and avoid breakage, the majority of women should generally get their haircut every three months,” Blakeney says. “It’s time to visit the salon if you find that your ends are becoming brittle or forming split ends.”

And speaking of salons—if you’re interested in dying your hair without causing intense damage, take a look at what our hair care experts had to say about the coloring process.

Maintaining healthy, shiny, happy hair is a full-time endeavor. But man, oh man, are those voluminous hair flips and silky soft locks worth it.

Sarah Jessica Parker ‘Holy Grail’ Hair Tool Made By Jennifer Aniston’s Stylist Can Also Protect Against Breakage https://www.suggest.com/sarah-jessica-parker-hair-tool-prevents-breakage/2658125/ Sat, 25 Jun 2022 22:05:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2658125 Sarah Jessica Parker with updo

Few women are more stylistically iconic than Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston. The two actresses have cemented their spot in the beauty and fashion canon due in no small part to their mutual hair stylist, Chris McMillan.

Parker recently shared a tool designed for her by McMillan, the man behind the iconic “Rachel” haircut of the ‘90s and Aniston’s beachy blonde locks of today. Dubbing it a “holy grail” tool, SJP’s shining ode caught our eye.

Because, really, she’s right. These tools are the unsung hero of the hair care world, helping prevent breakage while looking gorgeous in the process.

‘Holy Grail Of Hair Pins’

Parker kept her recent Instagram post short, sweet, and to the point. It featured a large silver hairpin (also called a hair fork) on a white radiator. “Worthy of [the MOMA],” the actress wrote. “Praise for its design, simplicity, functionality, and timelessness. Holy grail of hair pins. X, SJ.”

Of course, Parker’s shout-out also included Chris McMillan, the hairpin’s assumed designer (or, at the very least, gifter). We’re unsure of the exact details, but we assume this hairpin might have something to do with Parker and husband Matthew Broderick’s current Broadway show, Plaza Suite

But you don’t need to be starring on Broadway to use these innovative tools. In fact, if you have long or thick hair, you should probably be using one right now.

Keep Hair Tidy Without Breakage

It’s fairly common knowledge that prolonged use of tight hair ties will damage hair (even the hair of an A-list celebrity, like Jennifer Garner). But aside from only ever wearing one’s hair down, there don’t seem to be that many common alternatives.

Hair forks eliminate the need for elastic altogether. Like an oversized bobby pin, these tools hold and secure the hair all day without adding tension and stress to your locks. These hair forks from Crystal Store seem to match Parker’s “holy grail” pin the most.

These minimalistic pins are available in four neutral colors: light silver, dark silver, gold, and bronze. Match the colors to your hair for a sleek look, or make it decorative with contrasting shades. The metal pins are about 4 inches long, making them ideal for shorter or thinner hair.

Ditch Your Hair Tie Bracelet

When I wore elastics, I would wear them constantly. If they weren’t in my hair, then they were on my wrist. Not only did brand-new hair ties cut off my circulation and leave me with sore, unsightly wrist rings, but they also looked…not great.

With a tool like this hammered nickel silver pin from Silver Dawn Jewelry, you no longer have to wear your hair accessories on your arm. This customizable-length hair fork wraps around buns, chignons, and French twists with ease.

Thanks to this hair fork’s gentle hold, you don’t have to worry about taking your hair down halfway through the day because your scalp is throbbing. You can wear your hair up until you’re ready to switch styles, not until the pain makes you do so.

Switch Up Your Style

In addition to saving your hair from further damage and breakage, hair forks are a refreshing alternative to your usual hair tools. While they might seem complicated at first, hair forks are incredibly straightforward and versatile accessories.

My favorite hair fork tutorial is by Love4Nails. Her clear explanations and visuals helped demystify the hair fork process and got me wrapping and twisting in no time.

This helpful tutorial also inspired me to invest in a decorative wooden hair fork. I especially love the soft, botanical features of these personalizable hair forks from Handsland. These decorative accessories have four available resin features that add a pop of color and whimsy to your everyday low bun.

If anyone is an expert in fabulous, iconic hair, it would be Sarah Jessica Parker. And on her recommendation, I’m excited to start incorporating these useful tools into my regular hair routine—goodbye breakage; hello, beautiful, healthy tresses.

You’ve Heard Of Dry Shampoo, But Dry Conditioner Will Be Your Parched Hair’s New BFF https://www.suggest.com/what-is-dry-conditioner-our-top-picks/2657299/ Mon, 20 Jun 2022 22:35:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2657299 Woman spraying her hair with dry shampoo or conditioner, reflection in the mirror

There is a good chance you’ve‌ ‌heard‌ ‌of‌ ‌dry‌ ‌shampoo. ‌As a last resort, you may have used it to save on shower time or to refresh your locks between washes. In spite of dry shampoo’s amazing capability of absorbing excess oil until your next wash, its convenience is somewhat‌ ‌limited.

While dry shampoo is a voracious eater of buildup, it has little to offer‌ ‌when‌ ‌it‌ ‌comes‌ ‌to‌ ‌moisturizing hair. ‌In terms of hydration, its less-popular counterpart, dry conditioner,‌ ‌takes‌ ‌center‌ ‌stage.

What Is Dry Conditioner?

In contrast to dry shampoo, which controls oil absorption on the scalp and roots, dry conditioner adds shine and revitalizes dull hair. ‌‌‌If you’ve tried silk pillowcases and hair masks, but need something quick and easy to tame your locks, dry conditioner also works well to eliminate‌‌ ‌‌frizz‌‌ ‌‌and‌‌ ‌‌flyaways. ‌‌‌Yet, the best aspect of dry conditioners is they can do‌ ‌this‌ ‌without‌ ‌water. ‌

When compared with traditional leave-in conditioners, dry conditioner is more lightweight and ‌wearable, meaning it won’t weigh your hair down.

Spritz it on your hair to instantly hydrate or refresh your tresses ‌mid-day. ‌‌‌As with traditional leave-ins, it detangles, regulates, and softens unruly locks.

Additionally,‌ ‌it‌ ‌solves one of life’s biggest beauty dilemmas: how to extend‌‌ ‌‌the‌‌ ‌‌life‌‌ ‌‌of‌‌ ‌‌a blowout. ‌By using this magic in a bottle, hair blowouts can last‌ ‌a‌ ‌couple‌ ‌of‌ ‌days‌ ‌longer.

Drybar, the renowned blow dry bar, has introduced a dry conditioner that will extend the life of your blowouts. A unique no-water-required formula, Drybar’s Detox Dry Conditioner rejuvenates‌ ‌dull tresses. ‌

Besides hydrating your hair, Drybar’s Detox Dry Conditioner also smooths and detangles without the hassle of washing it. Moreover, this lightweight formula smells divine with notes of jasmine, sandalwood, and Madagascar vanilla.

Top celebrity hairstylist Kristin Ess has created an affordable luxury dry conditioner ‌for all‌ ‌hair‌ ‌types. ‌You will achieve your hair goals with Kristin Ess Style Reviving Dry Conditioner! ‌

Just a few sprays transforms your unruly hair from dry and frizzy to touchably soft. ‌Moreover,‌ ‌Kristin’s dry formula is weightlessly moisturizing, as well as oil and odor absorbing for picture-perfect‌ ‌hair.

Dry, thirsty, tired hair? ‌Worry not!‌ ‌UNITE’s U:DRY Fresh Hydrating Dry Conditioner can handle even the driest hair with its‌ ‌innovative‌ ‌hydrating‌ ‌formula. ‌Magically revert frizzy, thirsty hair to its former glory,‌ ‌restoring‌ ‌radiance‌ ‌and‌ ‌softness. ‌UNITE‌ ‌dry‌ ‌conditioner‌ ‌also provides UV‌ ‌and‌ ‌thermal‌ ‌protection‌ ‌and‌ ‌is‌ ‌color-safe.

In‌ ‌the‌ ‌quest‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌holy‌ ‌grail? ‌Dry‌ ‌conditioner‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌cure for all your dull, frizzy hair needs. ‌With all the benefits of a traditional conditioner‌,‌ ‌it can‌ ‌turn‌ ‌any‌ ‌bad‌ ‌hair‌ ‌day‌ ‌upside‌ ‌down‌ without the hassle.

Jennifer Aniston Breaks These Common Shampooing And Conditioning Hair Myths https://www.suggest.com/jennifer-aniston-double-cleansing-routine/2657311/ Mon, 20 Jun 2022 17:05:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2657311 Jennifer Aniston smiling

Jennifer Aniston is a bonafide hair icon. From “The Rachel” to her beachy blonde of today, Aniston has set hair trends for decades. Her ability to not only stay in style but make the style is unmatched.

And despite her superhuman ability to never age (which she credits to her go-to wellness routine), there’s no magic involved with her hair. Rather, the real secret is the products and her commitment.

Aniston’s longtime hairstylist, Chris McMillan, recently revealed Aniston’s go-to products when it comes to shampooing and conditioning her tresses. Most importantly, he explained how she uses them.

Creating A Clean Canvas

Shampoo and conditioner are the cornerstones of any good hair routine. Indeed, even the most dedicated regimen will fall flat with the wrong products. McMillian shared some of Aniston’s favorites with Vogue

He explains that, depending on the day’s needs, Aniston will switch between Living Proof’s No Frizz Shampoo and Drunk Elephant’s Glossing Shampoo.

Living Proof’s No-Frizz Shampoo helps to nourish, fight frizz, and protect against humidity all without weighing strands down. The lightly citrus-scented shampoo contains no sulfates, silicone, or parabens. Additionally, it’s color-safe, helping to maintain Aniston’s sunny blonde between salon trips.

If she’s looking for more cleansing power than frizz-fighting, she will use Drunk Elephant’s Glossing Shampoo.

McMillan co-created the Cocomino Glossing Shampoo with Drunk Elephant. It’s a color-safe blend of coconut surfactants that gently lift dirt, styling products, and other substances without stripping the hair shaft. In addition to its cleansing power, this sulfate-free shampoo adds smoothness, shine, and natural body and bounce.

The Right Conditioner Criteria

Of course, no shampoo is worth its weight in suds without the proper conditioner to go along with it. All hair cleansing strips tresses of some oils and moisture. Aniston uses two conditioners to replenish, rehydrate, and soften her locks.

Drunk Elephant’s Cocomino Marula Cream Conditioner is the partner to DE’s Glossing Shampoo. The rich blend of oils, amino acids, and marula butter locks in moisture and adds intense shine. This conditioner protects against color treatments and heat damage to reveal soft, manageable hair.

McMillan says Aniston will also use a conditioner created by her long-time colorist, Michael Canalé. Canalé’s Soften Conditioner contains natural oils and antioxidants that restore hair’s shine, luster, and color.

Canalé specifically designed his Soften Conditioner for color-treated hair. The powerful formula contains key nutrients and coats the hair shaft to visibly improve quality. The hardworking conditioner is only available on Canalé’s website.

Breaking These Common Hair Myths

It isn’t just the products that matter; it’s also how you use them. McMillan says that Aniston takes her hair routine “very seriously.” So, when a product says to lather, rinse, and repeat, she actually repeats. (Rather than ignoring it and washing once, which I thought everyone did.)

McMillan explains that a proper double cleanse ensures that all dirt and products are fully removed. Double cleansing also keeps the scalp cleaner longer, which is critical for someone with a schedule like Aniston’s.

Moreover, she doesn’t skimp on the conditioner, either. Aniston uses a wide-tooth comb to condition her hair from root to tip. This wide-toothed comb features durable plastic and a convenient hook for better grip and shower storage.

Many people claim to avoid conditioning your roots, especially those looking for voluminous hair post-shower. According to McMillian, your roots should never be ignored.

“We don’t just condition the ends,” McMillan told Vogue. “Would you moisturize just your jawline or forehead? No! You’re going to moisturize your entire face. Conditioner is moisturizer for your hair. You should be doing the same thing for your hair as you do for your skin.”

McMillan has been around ever since Aniston was rocking The Rachel. In fact, he created it. He’s been helping her maintain her hair icon status since the ‘90s. And if her golden locks are any indication, we’ll be fawning over Aniston’s hair for decades to come.

Most importantly, thanks to McMillan’s valuable insights, we can enjoy the same shiny, smooth locks as Aniston.

This Science-Backed Laser Comb May Just Be The Hair-Loss Solution You’ve Been Looking For https://www.suggest.com/hairmax-laser-comb-studies-reviews/2657021/ Sat, 18 Jun 2022 23:35:00 +0000 https://www.suggest.com/?p=2657021 HairMax Laser Hair Growth Comb

Once you hit your late 40s, the odds are against you when it comes to hair loss—no matter if you’re a man or a woman.

For ladies, hair thinning and hair loss is most likely to occur after menopause. Additionally, an estimated 30 million women are affected by androgenetic alopecia—and it can start as early as your teens.

This unfortunate reality has birthed an entire industry dedicated to all things hair growth and thickening. While there are effective products out there, everyone’s hair loss needs are different. If you’ve struggled to see meaningful results with shampoos and supplements, this laser hair growth comb may just be the solution you’ve been looking for.

Follow The Science

HairMax is a tech company that offers hair regrowth products—utilizing hair growth science and research—that deliver lower laser light therapy, or LLLT. Its product line features different portable devices that use LLLT on thinning hair follicles to stimulate stronger growth and reverse hair thinning and loss. These products support natural hair growth by increasing blood circulation and removing waste in the follicle.

One of those products is their Laser Hair Growth Comb, which has been validated by seven different clinical studies. This option allows you to target areas that need it the most by delivering strong laser lights to specific parts of the scalp and hair follicles.

HairMax devices are FDA-approved and have actually been scientifically proven to work, with an average hair count increase of 129 new hairs per square inch after six months of use.

New Growth, Healthier Fuller Hair In Weeks

All HairMax devices have been found to be safe and effective when it comes to supporting new hair growth and reversing hair thinning. The studies also showed that using a Laser Hair Growth Comb won’t cause any concerning side effects. And the Amazon comments section supports these findings.

“At 46, I was looking for something, anything. I’m a woman and my already thin hair was getting even more so and I was embarrassed. I found this product,” one reviewer wrote. “I don’t know if it’s a miracle but I [definitely] have noticeable new hair growth, my hair is getting longer and filling in and getting thicker. It feels and looks thicker.”

HairMax products are recommended for adults over the age of 18, and the best results are achieved when treatment is started at the first sign of hair loss. The company recommends using its devices three days a week, eight to 11 minutes at a time, to keep up the hair growth.
